I think the simple question for whether you'll enjoy this game, is whether or not you're looking for a co-op focused, loot and leveling shooter. If you want that, here it is.

Oddly, I'm normally not that guy, but this game hits just enough points that I'm finding it enjoyable so far.

This is neat. You get scaled down if you join a party of a lowbie. You also get good XP and drops at your level.

This is already better than Borderlands in that regard.

I just don't understand how Bungie made a game with such a nonsensical story and bland PVP. I see Bungies UI, their sound design, their excellent gunplay.

This actually makes me all the more tempted to buy an Xbox One and the Halo Master Chief Collection. I've only briefly played Halo 3, a long time ago, so I've pretty much missed the entire Halo phenomenon.

not much you can do with a shooter.
Have you played the Halo games? There are huge set pieces with so many different ways to approach it. Do i take a ghost, tank, warthog, or go on foot sniping. I remember every level of halo and remember every set piece. From what im hearing this is very much on rails, and isn't as memorable.

Oh, and loot. Is this a loot based game or not? Because I am not finding jack. Five or six hours in and I have only been able to upgrade one item, and its bonus was worthless to me (faster reload on scout rifles.....yay). Needs more drops, more chests, and equipment that upgrades with options - do you want to upgrade for this perk, or this other perk? Etc.

Edit: and I've literally only found about 5 drops.

I can't comprehend why Bungie didn't implement boss specific loot tables. Why don't bosses drop pieces of their armor or cool weapons they were carrying/using? It gives you a reason to go back and do strikes.

Not really "shitting", more "This is nice, but, after all this marketing and hype... meh?"

Thank you for posting this. I've had a tough time putting my thoughts into words, but this vid does a good job of it.

One of the guys makes a good point that it never really feels like you're on an adventure, and that the game has no soul. I am inclined to agree.

I didn't realize this game would be so heavy on loot as well. I just finished doing a couple playthroughs of Diablo 3: UEE, so perhaps I was spoiled/spent in terms of looting.

A level cap of 20/30 though? I know future DLC will probably raise that cap, but I still think it's kinda lame.

I LOVE how gorgeous this game is. Probably one of the most beautiful FPSs I've played.

Coming out of the Alpha/Beta I was impressed because I thought "wow I can't wait to see what this game becomes... can't wait to explore it's full potential.". In the end, however, I just was not impressed. Not because of any over-hype. Not because of the lack of story. I was just not having fun with it.

Glad you other GAFers are enjoying it though!! Have fun!

Since you couldn't read what I actually said, I'll repeat: I didn't say it was one, I said it's a lot like one.

It has plenty of shared traits and structure of your standard MMO, you can't deny that. There's more to an MMO than just a stupidly large player count.

I read it perfectly thank you. Having loot drops and a shared space for people to dance does not make it an MMO.

It's missing waaaay too much for it to be considered like one at all. One thing Bungie has tried numerous times to press on people.

Hit lvl 18 before calling it a night. I'm really enjoying the game, but there are definitely some glaring issues. For one the story missions are just the same thing over and over. I'm only on venus, but I was playing with another gaffer and we were laughing at how predictable the get ready for waves of enemies stuff every mission seemed to consist of. There really is not much variety when it comes to the story missions. Still having fun though despite that.

The Moon stuff has been my favorite though, absolutely love the look and style. Bungie killed it there. The moon strike mission was also pretty cool. Venus looks great so far too.

I also have no fucking clue what is going on story wise. I'm also not sure if I care or not about that.

PVP has been a bit of a learning experience for me. It's getting better now that I have weapons that I have a good feel for.

I'll probably finish up the story tomorrow, and that leaves PVP and grinding rep for gear. The Strike playlist also seems interesting and I'll probably get into that too.

Overall, really liking it but it's definitely not the second coming. Story mission variety is a killer, and that story? No clue what's going on but I will keep coming back for quite some time I think.

I finished up today with about 17 hours in the game and level 16 ingame. While the game started out fun it became very tedious over time with no real feeling of accomplishment or progression. The story was shallow and did no explaining of the premise, and combat never got very challenging as a full fire team could chew through anything. It's still a solid game for the month but it definitely isn't worth any GOTY nomination.

Where did the 500 million dollars go? I have played for 4 hours and this story is basicly Titan Fall 2.0. And why dont the NPC months move when they talk?

You won't regret it. Master Chief Collection will be phenomenal.

I'm Level 3 right now playing on Earth still obviously. How do I call my Sparrow bike? I see other players zipping around on them around me, but I can't find a button command to bring the bike out. What gives?

You'll be given the sparrow in one of the story missions.

I really don't want to rehash the same tired jokes just to spark some actual life in this thread.

I'm done for now, I suppose. I'll be back, with a bag full of snark and twisted jabs to dole out how I see fit. Hopefully, though, some sense of sanity will come back to DGAF and we can actually have some fun instead of bitching all the time like entitled children.

It kinda felt like they had a really ambitious game, then realized "oh shit, how is this gonna work on the old consoles" and kinda dumbed it down to "vague-ass story, waves of dudes with boring guns and loot, some unbalanced PVP shit with 4 modes lets gooooooo"

Prolly

You can tell last gen held this game back.

I can't think of a single reason the old consoles would have held back any of that.

Me and my girlfriend are really loving this :)

Just played for 6 hours straight. I'm level 9 and she's level 10 (she started a bit before me)

What's bothersome is that mission designs, story, weapons, PVP structure....none of that can be put on last gen holding it back. That's all on Bungie period in choosing what they did.

It keeps it simple, and does well in it for what it's worth, but it's just all rather uninspiring.

As much as I am enjoying it, this whole scenario just reminds me why I hate to see such unrealistic hype surrounding big games. They never live up to it for many people who always expect something so much more grand and the shortcomings only end up being that much more glaring as a result. The polarizing reviews this game will probably have when the dust settles should really come as no surprise.

Right now the thing I'm feeling the most is the strikes. They need to focus on those and some PvP improvements for the DLC. PvP feels kind of like a diversion to me right now, rather than something I might actually focus on. They also need to jack up the rates of public events and work in improving some of the standard missions, because you run into "defend Ghost while X" way too much.

Also there are some weird basic things missing in this game. There are no audio controls whatsoever; the in-game chat is useless whenever music is playing because it doesn't shift balance when people speak. I can't hear half the shit people say, and you wind up just having to use PSN party chat to communicate. Not even having any volume sliders is a really strange omission.

Really want to get to more of these strikes though, and it makes me hopeful for the raid, as well as future strike/raid design. As long as they can continue pumping out new strikes, raids and loot I'll probably be playing this for a long while.

By the way, what do the LE emblem and ship variant look like? And how are people going to get jealous over your Ghost? I barely see it.

Seriously, I've been disappointed by everything, recently. Watch Dogs, Titanfall, Saints Row 4, The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead Season 2, now Destiny... :(

Edit: Well, I did like Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, but my expectations for this title were very low, lol

holy shit i just did my first strike.. that was amazing. I started at lvl 6 and at the end was 8 LOL. got some p good loot too!

I just wish I had a better cloak 8(
Don't do the moon strike until you and your buddies are AT LEAST level 6,456. Just, don't.

I'm enjoying it so far. Playing with friends is pretty much the only reason I got this, and it's a lot of fun. I never understood why people were hyping this game up so much; it never looked revolutionary or groundbreaking to me. It just looked fun; and that's what it is; a really fun game.

Oh god, spent over an hour on patrol on the moon and get back to the tower. The only bounty available to me is... complete 4 patrol missions on the moon. I bet I did 20. Destiny may not be an MMO, but it gives me the same "shit if only I'd known about this part beforehand, I could have been doing both at the same time!" quest regret.

if you wanna have a good time, play with this guy

don't ask me what the story was, all the missions feel exactly the same and there's little context or dramatic stakes to anything you do lmao

Are Strikes the same as Story, one time for the Rewards? I have to do the Devil's Lair, and if the drops are leveled then I could wait. (Like Engrams).

Played for a little while on my bros ps4. I see the complaints definitely, and I'd like to add that I was disappointed on the lack of gameplay encounters and abilities for the player. Where halo had multiple videos and scenarios you would be apart of this is all very monotonous. It's like they decided to forget everything they learned from making halo and could have reused so many assets and built upon that to make this game a way more rich experience. If I had a ps4 I would still buy it just to play with friends, but I don't think there is much there. Also the pvp is not fun. Very disappointed with that.
