The best mission Iv played so far is on Venus.
The one where you enter the Fallen ship. I had a blast on that mission. And the boss wasn't to bad either.

Not that I can see. But hand cannons are ridiculously strong now though. It's my weapon of choice in PvP and PvE. Their precision shot damage is ridiculous. Sure you have more chances of making a mistake and screwing yourself over with the amount of bullets you get, but if you can aim at an enemy and it's 1 v 1 you are guanrateed to win usually. But when you screw up it sucks. I've gotten killed so many times by having to reload while the enemy has plenty of bullets.

Also the sniper rifle with fire damage is ridiculous against knights and wizards. I was at the moon like maybe 1 level above from the recommended mission level and I was two shotting every knight and wizard I saw.

PvP I realize I do better with shotgun. I've tried using sniper but the maps outside of 1 or 2 aren't designed for sniper.

even the ones that are, if you just stay near killzones with a shotgun you'll do godly

I'm going to pretend your list is in a numerical format. Also I'd like to point out that your whole argument is extremely silly.

1. Interesting NPC's =/= Elder Scrolls or rpg's if that's what you're implying. Plenty of other games can have interesting NPC's. An MMO/multplayer game can still have interesting characters. Heck Borderlands, personal opinions on their humor aside, had plenty of interesting side characters that make up the universe, even a villain in Borderlands 2 that was decently well loved. They still had you meeting NPC's for missions. So far all of the NPC's I've met in this game are

a. The Ghost, which is quirky enough but he won't carry the whole game.
b. The Speaker, who doesn't really stand out outside of visuals.
c. A bunch of vendors who speak 3 words to you with no personality whatsoever.

2. Besides the direct enemies you fight you could have wildlife, npcs, etc... plenty of games have done this. Even the Tower feels barren and that's supposed to be the hub world. It lacks life.

3. Missions follow the same formula, to the tee, so far and from what I hear that doesn't change much. If you're enjoying the combat and the co-op aspects that doesn't excuse doing the same thing for each mission in terms of set-up and structure. Not every shooter is like this.
My argument is definitely not silly, at least not more than some complaints in here.
I didn't base my whole argument about this being not an RPG on the interesting NPC thing, as you made it out in 1), but on all 3.

1.) True, there are shooter games who do have interesting NPCs, I just think Bungie wanted to focus on coop with this one. I don't really miss NPCs and their chatter which usually turns out to be pretty i significant on the whole scale of things. Though i would have loved some more background info or some sort of lore source in-game that you can consult.

2.) In cosmodrome i could understand that some wildlife would have been possible. On Moon, Mars, Venus and Mercury for obvious reasons not.
NPCs usually don't stand around in a hostile environment, as I pointed out before. Thats also what other players are for, who roam the landscape and may play along with you.
The Tower is a joke though, i see it the same way.

3.) I've reached level 10 now and thus played some missions already. While some do feel similar, others don't.

I am a Pulse Rifle/Fusion Rifle guy... looks like I am the only ones that didn't get a big change from beta?^^

Shotgun punch works really well, but hand cannon punch also does wonders.

I think my biggest issues in this game are titans. I fucking hate the 'oh shit' titan punch maneuver so many do in PvP. You're wasting your super on one guy because you don't want to die? It's infuriating to me, not so much because I was going to win that encounter, but because it's such a fucking waste of a super.

This game is way harder than the beta and I'm happy for it. Our fire team must have been wiped some six times before we made it through the first strike mission - though our group was two level 5s and a level 11 - made things interesting.

There is no story whatsoever as far as I can tell - light good, darkness bad, kill everything and empty their wallets, but that's fine I guess. Bungie just doesn't seem to have it in them to tell a story.
The thing is, they did - it's just via grimiore cards and not actually in the game.

So far, I give the game a 9/10.

Honestly, the gameplay is amazing. A lot of FUN especially with friends.

Story is awful. So are the story missions. Can't believe how rock bottom it is.

My main problem with the game atm. I love most of it, and the boss fights are usually pretty tense, but damn the letdown when you don't get any instant loot :(

Yeah finding loot chests usually isn't very exciting either. Usually it's pocket change and some materials you could've farmed off the planet itself. =/

So far me and my friend have been playing this all co-op and have gotten through the first mission in
Venus and got told to get a Vex Head after visiting the Reef.

We've both been pretty much complaining about how little effort was put into the use of the environments and such. The caves are pretty much copy and paste. I mean the planets themselves aren't really that big at all, so what's up? The Sparrows hardly have much space to be of use. And I see a lot of those dark fog doors that were in the Alpha/Beta that people assumed were just blocked off and would be open for us in the full game, but so far they're all closed off. Really curious to see if they open at all at a certain point.

PvP seems like a step down from Halo so that's not really gonna play too much into the longevity of the game for me. I was just hoping that maybe Bungie saying we haven't seen everything in the Alpha/Beta just meant there's a lot more to do than what we did in the missions, but so far there's not.

So, has anyone gotten to the "ending" of the game? Just wondering since it doesn't seem like there has been a huge fuss about the limited missons/planets/etc yet.

Gonna keep playing until the end, but these are just my feelings towards the game at the moment.

Does Bungie expect people to understand what the hell is going on? I feel like each mission just spits out some generic quest dialogue with only a few missions getting proper exposition. But those missions don't feel like they are adding up to anything so far.

there should be a way to look at yourself in third person during missions other than emoting. I'd like to see myself standing there with the weapon. lot of stuff like this just feels like a pointless, silly omission considering the time and money and manpower behind this game.

the loading times combined with mandatory cutscenes border on crime against humanity.

i've only done the earth missions but they sound pretty connected?

Man, experiencing some pretty bag lag in pvp atm, people teleporting all over the place, damage not registering until after they kill me lol

Beat the campaign as of 1:13 AM (Central). Twas awesome. The gameplay all around is completely solid- I'll definitely be coming back to Destiny for a long time to come. My only disappointment is the story. I don't feel it was presented very well at all. And so much went unexplained even in the main plot let alone the details. I feel very unfulfilled in the story department.

I feel like Bungie wanted to pull off Demon's/Dark Souls story style and utterly failed.

I would very much prefer standard storytelling in this type of game:

1. Intro sets up the narrative.
2. Cutscenes progress the story line.

I was hoping that poor storytelling was a beta thing (thought the missions that we got to play weren't in sequence and that's why it felt choppy), but it obviously it's not.

Hopefully, Bungie will get their shit together and fill the gigantic gaps in DLC.

Luckily for them, gameplay is utterly brilliant, and that's what's saving this game from being $500 million failure. Best MP I've played in years. Perhaps ever. I just feel bad about the wasted potential of story. Could have been epic.

This sounds like a typical modern review of a game.

I think The Crucible shouldn't allow power-ups (ie: Golden Gun, Hulk Smash, etc..). It creates a huge imbalance in my opinion and has gotten to the point where I'm flat out annoyed with it.

My feeling exactly I am two story missions in at
the moon just destroyed the sword
and I find the story missions to be quite boring so far a lot of rinse and repeat

Cruciable is a lot of fun but they really could have done more with the environments the story missions are not interesting.

So, after boringly shooting at a boss with two other people for 20 minutes it finally dies and no one gets any loot.

This game is going to get savaged in reviews.

Yeah, waiting for that sweet boss loot that's in every MMORPG, and then... just "Mission completed" plus some EXP.

What is the best way to communicate with clan members (eg finding fireteam members)? For a so called social game Destiny seems a little bare-bones when it comes to communication...

As of right now use either neogaf of bungies forums and unless the whole clan adds you their friendslist there really is no other way.

Ammo would be great. No point in having a weapon if you never have ammo for it.

I hate to be negative but wow this game is feeling so pedestrian the farther I get in.

This thread and the clan thread, as I don't think many actually check the bungie.net site for their respective groups. I'd suggest making friends with clan members.

The Strike on Earth is significantly tougher than in the beta :D

So, looking at the Trophy lists, one is to be in a clan and play a Strike. Would that mean no other random players would appear as you play? Or maybe its the three main players being in your clan.

Complete a Strike with a full fireteam consisting of only your clan members.

I know this is a shooter and I have seen people saying Co-op is the main point of this BUT this story really sucks. The first couple missions, sure I was buying into the story, sure...but somewhere along the way... i stopped caring about the story.

My friends and I are level 15-ish and we just finished up the moon (just have to do the strike team). I would say around the last mission of earth the story stopped being coherent and worthwhile. It lacks support. The ghost isn't enough and neither is the one humanoid (chancellor?). I play games primarily for the story... for me to stop caring about the story is... quite surprising.

Aside from that, its quite enjoyable.

I noticed too. Then again, my teammates died literally every minute so perhaps I was just carrying their weight. It normally took 15 minutes in the beta, but it took me an hour to do it again earlier. And I mentioned that we wiped when sepkis was a single snipe away from death.

Beating The Summoning Pits with a group of randoms is probably one of the most satisfying/rewarding things I've done in a long ass time in gaming. That was intense as hell, well done Bungie, this game really does just get better and better it my opinion. It may have it's flaws like any game, but oh my god can it be fun and satisfying.

The thing is, they did - it's just via grimiore cards and not actually in the game.

I'm actually fine with this... and I'm the biggest story/lore nerd guy there is.

There is just enough narrative to invest me in the world, and the grimoire cards/loot descriptions I read up on give me a more detailed view of the Destiny Universe, which I enjoy more and more. I applaud the light nature of Destiny, as I play plenty of dark fantasy/sci-fi games and it's nice to hit something a bit lighter to be honest.

I'm absolutely loving the way the game works with other players, and I usually steer clear of co-op like the plague. I play a lot more single player games than multi, but I must say this truly feels like a new type of thing once you are mic'd up with a competent Fireteam.

Exploring/looting/devising tactics/attacking the darkness... it's so much better in a group.

I firmly believe you have to experience Destiny in a Fireteam that communicates in order to 'get' what Bungie are putting down, that's when the magic happens for me.

I think I missed the cutscene from the speaker from the beta cos of my disconnects yesterday, any way to see it again? I go to the speaker and nothing happens.

I get the impression that there isn't a lot of cutscenes in this, yeah?

This sounds like a typical modern review of a game.

"story and missions are awful, 9/10"

Exactly what I thought.

Definitely. Me and a friend or two been playing both the beta and release together, probably the best co-op gaming experience we've had since Halo 3.

Yeah! That was definitely one the cooler missions I've played.

A few thoughts

- Why you can't chat to randoms on the tower is beyond me, seems so stupid. You dance about a little with people see what people are doing then party up and leave the tower together for a mission. The way to invite people into your fire team should be way easier to. Click one button done, no waiting around and taking you to another screen.

- Not sure if because i'm a low rank but I wish there was a game mode where everybody started with same weapons. Because i'm running into people level 20+ and they are killing me instantly due to my lack of arsenal and gear.

- Not enough maps or game modes in the crucible so far.

- I really hate, activate something and defend the area! type missions, and this game has had a lot so far.

- Transporting you out of a mission after you complete it is lame. There should be an option to stay or leave. I find loads of cool places to visit during a mission that i'd like to explore after the objective but i'm sucked right back to my ship after.

I didn't fall for the hype for this game. I played the alpha about 8-10 hours and enjoyed it a lot to start with then got a little samey. The beta I only played for a few hours, and so far the game is exactly the same. I guess I have to just power through and get to the new stuff and hopefully it gets better. I don't regret buying it so far, but its definitely not GOTY or GOAT for me at the moment.

Thanks. I'll post it here then: I'm currently level 7, just about to start the story missions on the moon. Anybody want to join? I'm on Ps4, my psn id is Hzoltan969.

I am quite enjoying this game. Just tried remote play and it works great. Actually very usable. Aiming is tougher though with the small sticks.

But I am beginning to wonder where they have spend all the money and time developing this. From the included content it seems this could have done by a small team with limited budget in limited time. And it doesn't sound like the are to many endgame things either. I really fear this is an expensive big demo and dlc hell is going to be real. Nothing against good expansions but for the scope they anticipated the initial things that are in destiny right now seem lacking.

Seriously?

I know that's a joke but what happened to all that, "Destiny will be like the next Star Wars or Lord of the Rings level of mythology in pop culture," talk?

I had to look this up and wow:

Wow, this game is polished to all hell and just a damn fun shooter. The combat is very satisfying. I am so glad there are plenty of "real bullet" guns. I absolutely hate laser blasty garbage. The more "real bullet" like the guns there are, the better imo. Halo never clicked with me but the combat in Destiny is awesome so far.
Actually, since the weapons in Destiny are hitscan, Halo weapons feel more "real bullet" because they use actual projectiles.

Those make the crucible a lot more interesting for me. Its just disappointing that most people dont use their supers properly.

I thought bungie said this is a 10 year old game in the making like it's gonna last 10 years? Hence level cap is 26 and stuff is left out. 60 bucks for a game that will last a long time seems good in my eyes. I'm digging the game.
