Bungie brought in players to test raids and some coordinated teams couldn't even finish them. Doing a raid with randoms sounds like it'd be a terrible, frustrating experience so it doesn't bother me a bit they left match making out for raids. If communicating teams can't pull it off imagine trying it with random trolls, people not using mics, etc....

just find people on gaf to do the raids. There's hundreds posting in this thread.

Does damage get scaled if a higher level character goes into a mission with a lower level friend? Meaning, if I'm level 15, and they're 5, what happens to my damage? Do I hit like a 15 or am I scaled down?

Add me to psn: astropoff

Uk. Will be on all evening from 4pm. All day tomorrow. More than happy to team up with fellow gaf members.

same. new PS4 owner.

solo grinding is exactly my pb. I come from Halo and I play a bit more aggressively than Destiny asks for when alone.

most randoms ignored my invites even tho I picked those in my lvl area... :-(

PSN : feronantus

I'll add both of you, thank you. I'm US Central, so will be on around 6pm central tonight.

Level 8, but willing to do whatever, as long as I'm not miserably unhelpful :)

Does that mean you go back and redo level 1 stuff and basically start the game over with your subclass?

Nah, your core level doesn't change. The subclass just doesn't have anything unlocked like a new piece of gear.

One thing you might want to do is complete some bounties before level 15, but don't turn them in. Then hit 15, switch subclasses, then go turn in those bounties. You'll gain a ton of subclass XP that way and get a head start.

My god this PvP is impossible. I'm lucky to get one kill in a match and I usually do little to no damage no matter how much I shoot at someone.

Ugh....I wish I could get into online multiplayer more but it's so damn frustrating dying 20 times in a match and getting a kill in return.

Trust me, you'll get better at it. I went through exactly what you described in the alpha and beta because I've never played PvP in almost a decade. Now I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Still not great at it, but I often hit double digits. It's really more about finding your groove than about balance (yes, the game is pretty well balanced). Many people in here are quick to blame something or the other. More often than not, it comes down to learning the map, watching your radar and knowing what weapon works best for you.

Does that mean you go back and redo level 1 stuff and basically start the game over with your subclass?

You can but I wouldn't. You can level up your subclass when you want. I decided to work on it once I finish my first subclass.

You don't need any skills or perks to kill AI in the game. Granted, you're going to be weak as hell but still. I could probably start my subclass now and finish the rest of the story missions with it if I wanted. There's a lot of choice here.

I wish the same enemies didn't spawn in the exact same location all the time. Needs more random elements in the world. Maybe something like diablo's approach with random elite groups that pop up

Does it take just as long time to level up your second subclass? I haven't switched to it yet since I want to max out my first subclass first.

Oh and the pvp is fantastic...not to the level of halo 2, but very different. Very satisfying and something that feels new which is nice.

lots of neat stuff.

I think I'm about as far as you are (done some of the moon), but I'm not really sure what you are talking about regarding mission difficulties. Is there like a toggle/option somewhere when you enter a zone to choose difficulty?

Yeah anything you put in the Vault (Tower) is useable by the other characters you created
All 3 of your characters share the same Glimmer amount you've earned

So put stuff in vault, swap chars, retrieve items

If you speedrun Tutorial it's 10 minutes
I have done it 7 times so yeah =D

100% This.

I've just done it last night as a Titan to unlock the scout rifle (vanguard weapon) for my Warlock. Took me a total of 13 minutes. Thanks again for the tip.

Love your avatar by the way.

I take no credit for it. It was actually a wallpaper done by a fellow gaffer over on Reddit. Guys called Phayze on here I believe.

The impressions in this thread are really bringing me down. After the beta I decided to hold off on a purchase of the game and opted to put it in my gamefly que. Honestly I just planned on playing the story, but it doesn't seem like the issues I had in the beta with repetitiveness are alleviated with the full game. Still will play it though and see what I think of the full game.

I really don't get posts like this. The vast ajority of the posts on the previous page for example, are positive. Are you selectively picking out the negative one's and ignoring the positive? Here's some positive one's from just a page back. As far as I could see there were maybe only two negative one's.

Just did my first PvP game.

I did terribly with a 0.4 kdr but I had fun lol.

Have to say, I am really loving the game so far, and it is all down to how it plays, the gunplay is great and when up against a large group of tough enemies it is actually exhilarating, controls are spot on and with friends it is a blast.

Ok guys the game is good. I love it. No it's not a 10/10 game but it's a good game for sure.

PvP is real good. The people who don't like it probably just aren't good at it.

I am really enjoying the full game and that article really explains (in a much better way than I could) why I like it so much.

Over all impressions from about 10 hours (mainly on my hunter).

Things I like:
+ As mentioned in the article the gun play feels good and I enjoy it a lot, so all the other things that others might find annoying (story & mission types) doesn't get to me.

+ I've only done old Russia and some moon missions but I really enjoy just exploring the locations, working out how all the areas are linked. I get people might want to find lots of chests etc but it's rewarding just exploring and taking in the scenery for me. I also like finding new areas with ridiculously leveled enemies running away knowing I'll come back later.

+ No set pieces or QTE's so far!

+ Working in post/design I really appreciate the high level of work that has gone into the game. That includes the environments, character, weapons and ship designs as well as the more 2d work with the emblems and u.i/menus.

+ Hand cannons feel so much more viable now, also makes the play style so different, really calculating each shot and going for nothing but head shots. Nothing more satisfying than taking on a mob and dropping each enemy with a head shot.

+ The public events when they finally happen are fun. My last experience was walking around with some other randoms and a ship comes out and drops a devil walker which we took down with team work, then danced on it's corpse... then awkwardly stopped and went our separate ways.

+ Playing missions on the harder difficulty, makes things a lot more varied and hectic.

Not so great things:
- Some kind of quick swap between your primary weapons would be good, seeing as pausing doesn't stop the game finding you need another weapon for a particular encounter the first time can be a bit dicey on harder missions.

- Having to go to orbit after each mission, would be great to be able to go directly to the tower. Seems like an unnecessary step when you want to return a bounty etc.

- Inviting random players to a fire team is too many steps and takes you out to send a psn request. This could be streamlined a bit.

- The postmaster giving bounty hints is a bit odd in it's implementation.

- Though playing on harder difficulties makes the missions better some bosses do become very bullet spongey, they aren't harder but it just takes lot longer, this could be dropped down a bit.

Anyway that's it so far. I can understand the complaints others have had but I'm having fun. If you don't enjoy the shooting then this game will get very stale very quickly but it's working for me so far.

I think the game is fantastic. And I loved the beta too. I'm about to go to work, and I'm wishing I could play a couple of quick missions instead.

But you know what? Maybe if I'd played it for 15 hours when it's only been out for 24, I'd be a bit more negative too. I think normal people who bought it yesterday during their lunch break and then took it for a spin for a couple hours and will take a couple of weeks or more to complete SP and much more to get their fill of MP... I think those people will like it just fine.

If you played the beta up to level 25 (or more? I don't know how far people went, I think I hit lv 4), then played nearly every available minute of the first 24 hours post release, and now you're talking about this "disappointing" experience in the past tense, that seems a little crazy to me.

Does it take just as long time to level up your second subclass? I haven't switched to it yet since I want to max out my first subclass first.

Didn't seem like it. In going from 15 -> 16 I unlocked the first four skills in Defender (grenade, lift, ward, melee).

Pretty sure dissenting opinions are allowed. I don't believe this game will review as well as expected. The team over at GiantBomb seemed to imply it was supremely mediocre.

I never said dissenting opinions weren't allowed. I'm more speaking to those who are putting in work to convince us that we are in fact drowning in hype at the same time stating that it isn't nearly as special as it's been spoken of. Those that played the alpha/beta phases enjoyed it and knew what to expect, and have been enjoying it since release. If I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I am, I'd state why without working so hard to convince others that they shouldn't either.

Also, my own opinion has always been paramount in my game purchases. The alpha/beta was my preview and, with the retail being more of what I experience during that, my personal score of this game would be quite high.

It's not that they can't, but they think it would be unwise.

I'm on the fence about it upon playing the game. I'm not at raid level but I can see how some strikes on hard can be annoying if sorted with a guy who doesn't know what he's doing. I can only imagine this feeling doubled in a raid.

However, I succeed in strikes more than wipe continuously with randoms. So I don't know. I do think Bungie may be right somewhat. This game has the potential to be harder than most console shooters.
This reminds me of how WoW has evolved. From raids that required coordination to mindless DPS zergs where people don't communicate. I can see that as an argument from Bungie. To keep some complexity in the gameplay.

The lack of matchmaking is a pretty big issue for me personally. Most of my friends aren't gamers and the ones who are have not jumped into current gen yet or are flaky as hell and are hard to schedule time to play with. I would like to hop in with random people but beyond the Strike missions, it looks like I can't do that. Really sucks.

Really hope they put something in later down the line, makes no sense to me at all to why they didn't include more tools for grouping up in game from the start.

Saying that though i am enjoying the game immensely.

This thread is an echo chamber for everything negative.

I'm having fun, and so far it is exactly what the beta pegged it as. There really is no reason people should be all that surprised by what they're getting, IMO.

I would love I see patched in:

- jump straight to tower
- matchmaking for story mode
- voice chat for matchmaking
- text chat or local voice chat in tower (optional)
- clan support/chat

I dig this game, and if they strengthened the social aspects I think many of the perceived issues would feel much less glaring. The ability to actually socialise in games like these creates a whole new dimension to the experience, if we could chat with randoms and form groups and go off adventuring the entire world would feel more connected and the lack if story wouldn't be as much if an issue.

You can't half-arse social parts in game like these, it makes the place feel incredibly barren if you do.

I cannot find anyone on PS3 to group with. If anyone would like to add me my PSN is KylieDog, send a friend request with 'GAF' in the message please so know it not some random FR.

Currently level 11 and jumping online right now.

Currently lvl 13 and I'm not really impressed at all.

- Enemy variety is pretty low so far ... Vex on Venus were at least a bit better, I really hope there will be more enemies with more to them in the endgame

- "Story" is not even worth the name, I didn't expect a masterpiece but what I got is just an excuse to shoot stuff

-Explorable/Patrol is still bland and really not worth my time, stupid missions that let you run from one side of the map to the other. I still haven't found anything worth the time while exploring, no Special Mobs that drop cool stuff or fun miniboss encounter. Public Events are fun but I have encountered so few of them...

-In the Storymissions it feels like the game always sends you to the same spots at first with a little deviation at the end, I think during 4 out of the 6 missions on moon I walked through the corridor and room from the Sword mission. The Enivronment is really good IMO but it seems like I'm always in the same place.

-I only played the Strike from the Alpha/Beta so far, so I can't comment on the quality of the other Strikes but I really hope that the bosses are more than just bullet sponges without any good mechanics (please)

PvP is real good. The people who don't like it probably just aren't good at it.

First game I went 24-7...

That's a real awful mentality... If you don't like it you must suck at it?

That PvP isn't balanced in any way. I think it's awful, especially for the masters behind the Halo MP.

It's very uninspired.

I wish the same enemies didn't spawn in the exact same location all the time. Needs more random elements in the world. Maybe something like diablo's approach with random elite groups that pop up

I agree with this. Though this already happens in the game, I wish different mobs would spawn in spawning areas with more elite/rare enemies. You're right, the game needs more of a random element. Would definitely spice things up.

Trust me, you'll get better at it. I went through exactly what you described in the alpha and beta because I've never played PvP in almost a decade. Now I'm enjoying it thoroughly. I agree with this and I'd like to add the game does well at making you a killing machine once you get your super in your subclass. Also folks, please please PLEASE use your radar. I can tell when folks in game aren't using it and it sucks when they get killed.

Does it take just as long time to level up your second subclass? I haven't switched to it yet since I want to max out my first subclass first.

Yeah, that's why I'm saving it too for when I'm doing dailies or other stuff. I do think I could finish all the story quests and get my second subclass filled out while leaving my first subclass.

Do we know if there's a third subclass for toons?

Definitely. I used to think that I my favorite games were my favorite because of how fun the gameplay is, but the more I've thought about it, the more I realize that I remember those games and get nostalgic thinking about them because I played those games with good friends when I was younger. The social aspect is huge and really does effect a game's fun level, imo.

Though it has its issues(a metric ton of them) the core shooting and weapons for me is fun as hell.

Intead of regurgitating it's unbalanced over and over, why not specifiy how? What exactly is it about it that is unbalanced? Please describe your thoughts in greater detail so that people can not only agree or offer counter opinions, but Bungie can work to improve things too.

I realize that I'm in the minority (as I've stated in previous beta threads), but I wanted to come in and see what people were thinking of the full release. Reading this thread it seems like the people that had similar gripes with the beta are unchanged with the retail release. I was hoping that more environment variety would help, but talk of a mediocre story and repetitive missions are not something that I'm looking for.

I'm still going to play the full game and form my own opinion. What's the problem?

Though it has its issues(a metric ton of them) the core shooting and weapons for me is fun as hell.

Totally agree! The game feels excellent and the mechanics are great.

How much does level factor into multiplayer? I've been playing alot of rumble and keep getting matched up with people 20+ while I'm level 10 and the 20+ people almost consistently dominate every round. I mean is there a disadvantage or are they just all really good lol.

There's no voice chat in matchmaking? No wonder I've been talking to myself.
I wish story mode had matchmaking!

It's a lonely game when you don't have any friends that play on the reg. :/

I am literally going to edit together a "why you should buy this game" vid on upload studio and message it to all my buds.

I just hit 15 yesterday after a 14 hour marathon-session.

I was a little disappointed with the lack of variety in guns (just upgraded the same rifle a few times)

I picked up a lvl 14 Shingen-C which is a very nice change from the Handcannon.

God i love those handcannons.

I played for four hours last night on the Xbox One. The entire time I didn't see another player! At first, I was just concentrating on going through the missions to get leveled up. But, in the back of my mind I kept thinking that it was crazy, because in the beta on the 360 I saw people all over the place.

Then I remembered that there was a sound glitch when I had originally resumed the game from standby (no sound, until I went to the dashboard and came back into the game). So, I logged out of the game, loaded a few different games and then relaunched it.

Boom! It worked. I was in the tower and there were people all over the place!

So, if anyone else spends hours walking around in total isolation, try restarting the game.

I don't care who's opinion you listen to, the PvP is unbalanced and is a joke for saying it's made by the creators of Halo.

I dunno man. I think the game is balanced out of its simplicity. If anything, whoever knows how to use their guns and know the map > everyone else.

How much does level factor into multiplayer? I've been playing alot of rumble and keep getting matched up with people 20+ while I'm level 10 and the 20+ people almost consistently dominate every round. I mean is there a disadvantage or are they just all really good lol.

A mix of both. Levels don't factor in and all weapons do the same base damage, but the weapon perks, gear perks, and unlocked abilities in a subclass factor.

Why don't you read the rest of the thread? I don't just post regurgitated nonsense for no reason. I'm reiterating everyone else's point in a continuous discussion.

Don't act like there's not dozens of posts of negative PvP impressions.

hit level 9 after work yesterday and ran the first moon mission. my god the atmosphere (setting, smart alecks!) is awesome on the moon!

two issues i've had though:
- i got two emblems from bungie.net, but one of them, a variation on the bungie fist, disappeared from my inventory. wtf, i actually probably would stick with that one. hope it returns.
- isnt there a cut scene very early on with the speaker at the tower? after one of the early missions, i lost connection with the bungie servers and when i reloaded it just put me back in the navigation menu without that cutscene (which was in the beta). not a huge deal, but that would suck to miss major cutscenes later because of server/connection issues.
- i also randomly got three exact copies of the preorder bonus ghost skin. odd.

Not sure why the hate. All it is is a social fps. Good gun play is good and the missions are serviceable. Not sure why people give a fuck about the story. Who is even paying attention when you're playing with your friends and micced up.

My only issues is why can't they have matchmaking for normal missions like strikes. The game has the long enough load screens.

There's lots of posts saying it's unbalanced, but very few detailing why or how. And I'm not asking you for other people's opinions, I'm asking you for yours. Big difference.

Should I be saving my glimmer for anything in particular? I've just been buying armor in hopes of getting something better than I currently have. I'm level 7 if that matters.

Ye I've noticed this, I was patrolling venus and got like 6 drops in 10 minutes.

Not at venus, but near the end of the Moon and even going back to Earth to help my lowbie friend, I was getting drops like no other. I even leveled up far quicker with him than I did doing story missions.

Do we get bonus XP for being in parties?

The whole clan system is just baffling to me. You take your time to join a group, activate your clan and get your snazzy clan tag only to be given no way of meeting up with clan-mates in game.

Yes you can invite people from your PSN friends list who just happen to be in DestinyGAF but there's no specific way to play with clan-mates only or have in game clan meet-ups etc.. Love the game immensely but I personally think Bungie have missed a golden opportunity here.

The game was hyped to a ridiculous degree. People's expectations were off.
