Destiny |OT2| The Last Guardians

I think people are more likely to come in here and complain than come in here and be positive. I'm not shocked at all about the posts I'm reading, OTs have this ebb and flow.

I'm looking forward to the Metacritic, only because I suspect it to be reasonably high. That's not to say people's negative opinions are off base. I just think the combined complaints in here from people only watching a Twitch stream (you know who you are), spouting opinion from the beta like it's the whole game, and the same names I'm seeing over and over in this thread fanning the flames, it's not going to have a high score, nor is it going to be a train wreck.

Holy crap I can't even begin to explain how much fun the game is (40+ hours in the beta) and launch was.

At around 6pm during our all day marathon we started a strike mission on Venus that our fireteam leader just got access to. Long story short we get to the last boss of the strike and proceed to just get destroyed. Grind and grind and we're barely scratching his health. Die repeatedly and reset the last section. Get him down about 50% a couple of times but that's it. We seriously consider bailing but decide to give it one more shot.

We start grinding away, dealing with mobs. Get him down past 50% and it's a little quiet when suddenly the cloaked fallen start showing up. Several times we're down to a last guardian but recover. We finally get in a groove with one guy dealing with the mobs and two of us yo-yo'ing the boss between us. Finally he goes down and we all scream into our mics and dance together until we are taken back to orbit. Hands cramped, brains fried but man did we have a blast.

tl;dr destiny is fun

Did anyone cringe when you heard "I don't have time to explain why I don't even have time to explain"?

This story is all over the place and some of the dialog is just weird.

The line made me groan.

I agree. The fusion rifle is fatal in the right hands. Same with the sniper rifle. Shotguns are the everyman weapon but you don't have as much flexibility with it as you do the other two weapons IMO. A fusion rifle can one shot multiple people and reloads a lot quicker.

The fusion rifle is godly, you can take out Wizards and the like with complete ease once you get the hang of it.

Am I crazy?

I love Destiny. Me and my buddies haven't had this kind of coop fun since.. Well since Halo.

Game is amazing! Loved the alpha, loved
The beta.

I bought a PS4 for this game and couldn't be happier.

I must be old and crazy.. Because most of the people around here seem to hate it.

This is a strange one,

reading this thread so far it seems a lot of people went into this game thinking it would be an MMO, when it clearly wasn't meant to be.

Though it seems the story blows which is disappointing, I was afraid of this, because much like Halo the lore is left unexplored in the game which is where it should be most present.

The whole clan system is just baffling to me. You take your time to join a group, activate your clan and get your snazzy clan tag only to be given no way of meeting up with clan-mates in game.

Yes you can invite people from your PSN friends list who just happen to be in DestinyGAF but there's no specific way to play with clan-mates only or have in game clan meet-ups etc.. Love the game immensely but I personally think Bungie have missed a golden opportunity here.

Came to say exactly this. What in the world was the point of implementing a clan service to the game if it server no function in the game? I want to play with other GAFers without needing to add them one by one to my friends list.

I don't really understand the comments that people should've known the entire game would be like this based on the beta.

Games usually aren't exactly the same at hour 20 as they are at hour 2. They tend to change and introduce new mechanics, mission types, etc.

I had fun with the beta and expected the final release to actually go somewhere, not have the exact same mission structure for the entire game. And at the time lots of people kept saying, "It's only a beta!" to imply that the full game would do more. Plus there is some trust in Bungie (with their stellar track record) do have done a better job.

It bothers me that the defenders during beta would say to not be so harsh because it's just a beta. And the defenders at release would say it's your own fault because beta told you everything you needed to know about how the entire game would be.

Whatever I guess.

The base shooting gameplay is fun, even for someone who doesn't normally like shooters (me), but the structures around it could use some work. They have a good base to build on with DLC/sequels though. Destiny kind of seems like it will end up being the Assassins Creed 1 of the franchise.

My biggest complaint would be the lack of story elements, like when you first visit the Reef, those couple of minutes of cutscenes is what I expected throughout and not just rarely appearing during the story, because they were great to watch. The game just needs more of these little bits fleshing out the universe, they are too far apart, and I'd like to know whose terrible idea it was to leave the grimoire stuff out of the actual game. Bungie knows how to build a universe, I just want to know where all the lore is, because I shouldn't have to go to a website or use an app on my phone while playing to learn anything.

I also can't wait to see what they can do with a sequel, one that isn't held back by the previous generation. The game looks nice but at times it feels like some visual spark is missing from the worlds, I want bigger maps with more people to explore the world with, strikes that allow a few more players. Mechanically it is a solid foundation but it does feel like they have squandered a lot of potential.

I'm still enjoying it regardless of the issues I think it has, it hasn't quite lived up to the hype for me, but it is an enjoyable game, and one that I think is more definitely better with friends.

I'm having a ton of fun with PVE so far and haven't touched Crucible. I'm treating PVP as my endgame reward for when I feel as though I've gotten my character close to ideal.

*I spent most of my time in PVP during the alpha/beta and fully expect to do the same in the full version.

I really wish there was some difficulty to match your level. Every story mission has a recommended level that is like 3-4 levels below me. I'm choosing Hard Mode every time, but it's still way too easy. I'm just rushing through, taking down mini-bosses with a couple of shots.

Earth was really fun because every enemy was a higher level than me. That's the way I want it to be. The enemy AI is really challenging when you actually have to fear them.

Is there any way to make contact with bungie for some changes. The biggest one I want is to be able to announce in the tower that you're looking for fireteam members and let them come to you.

Instead of inviting people manually and hoping they join (which they often don't)

I suppose the etiquette of story co-op matchmaking not even existing discouraged Bungie from forcing matchmaking unto campaign.

just take some time to add PSN friends. that's my number task before poering up my PS4 tonight.

the clan thing is a big missed opportunity tho. Had all my clan people been automatically imported to my PSN friends list...I would have cried tears of golden joy.

I'm now officially playing Destiny with sound off and podcasts on. I just want to get loot and see Mars to feel like I've gotten my moneys worth. The story missions are seriously the worst waste of time ever in a tripple A game.

Sounds awesome. See that's the cool stuff. Good challenging strikes and eventually raids. Those are going to be what really keeps you playing.

Its easy to over level. Just help out some friends in the meantime. At level 16/18, you'll get what you want.

Bungie, if you're reading this, hear me!

Please please please add more loot. Get me to the point where I'm nearly overencumbered with gear and guns.

Please give white gear perks and green and up one more extra perk. That way folks from the get-go can have choice of how they want to play their character instead of just equipping a gun to play.

Basically, copy Dialbo 3 from front to back. Seriously, you guys have something good going on here.

Quick faction question: In order to ascend in faction-rank in PvP, you need to be wearing an emblem of theirs. However, you start off at Rank 0 with all factions and thus can't buy the emblems from the representatives as they require Rank 1.

How on earth do you get your rating up in order to actually purchase an emblem?

Why can't I join my friend's fire team? When I press guide button to reply to the invitation nothing happens. And I don't have an option to invite him at all. (xbox one)

A lot of these aren't balancing issues but general design. It's not imbalanced for everyone to have the same range for example.

Regarding levels, abilities are normalised in terms of damage, the only thing that's not is the level required to unlock one in the first place. But I don't personally think it's that big of a deal when it takes so little time to level up in the game.

Shotgun damage, are you suggesting they turn down the range, or decrease the damage? Because the shotgun is really only good for close quarters combat, which is a major disadvantage that needs to be compensated for in terms of balancing.

And the fusion rifle, in your opinion how much extra time should be added to make it fair? Bare in mind if you miss, it's pretty much game over, so you need to account for and compensate for that too in terms of balance.

I don't know, I hope it all gets fixed. IMO, shotgun damage range should be shortened or keep the range and reduce the effectiveness. Fusion rifle, despite missing, still gives you plenty of time to try again in a firefight (most of the time).

man look

if someone coming at you misses with a fusion rifle and you don't kill them or get away - you ain't gud.

You'll get info about unlocking marks at level 18

I feel like the game in general thinks it doesn't have time to explain anything to you outside of generic fantasy quest lore.

Is there anything I should be saving my Glimmer towards at max level, or should I just go and buy expensive vanity items like Shaders?

I'm hoping each has at least two planets/areas, and a a level cap increase

Based on what we have, I'd imagine it will be around one planet's worth of content per pack.

Continuation of story missions.
A few strikes.
A new raid.
Maybe some additions to the explorable areas.
New items.

Something like that seems reasonable.

do what you want

glimmer comes quick. there will probably be some glimmer run videos up for each planet soon anyways.

you are every part the modern video gamer.

I'm still hoping it'll have what you say, and even more smaller additions and removals that make the game better. Think Reaper of Souls for Diablo 3. Now, I don't think Destiny is as bad as D3 was on launch, but I have hope - down the line - Destiny will be addictive as sin.

I still have the default ship and I'm level 13. I don't want to spend Glimmer on anything in case I need it for something legit. Yet to find anything legit to spend on though hah. Best to wait and save it up for the level 20 gear then I guess?

A level cap increase would be nil without new gear to compliment it.

With that said, new areas and gear is all I really want out of the expansions. PVP maps are always nice too, but damn if I couldn't just play Rusted Lands and Blind Watch all day. (my two favs from the alpha/beta)

I wish the game was a little bit friendly when you're playing solo. I got a bunch of folks on my list playing the game, but can't get into their fireteam. So I ended up soloing all the levels on Earth, except the strike. meh... Anyone still need fireteam buddies (for evening sessions)?

Love the game, still very Halo-esque though (which I don’t complain about). Dreg = Jackals. Vandal = Elites. The Hive = Flood. The Kabal = Brutes. etc

people wanting a level cap increase don't even know why they want it

the game is a lot like DCUO where hitting the 'cap' is hitting the beginning.

It seems like I've been getting a lot less glimmer than in the alpha/beta so far. Any tips on getting more without, you know... compromising the game's fun factor?

I farmed, but I enjoy farming in this game >.>

Also, lets figure out where all the gold chests are. I found three on the Moon.
