As opposed to running through the same missions or same multiplayer maps in Halo over and over..? Not really following.

Well, the missions in Halo are longer, visually unique, and full of story beats. In one Halo title you get minimum twice the different "settings" as Destiny has. On top of that, the missions in Halo are hand-crafted with enemy locations, spawning, timing, dramatic music, etc. In Destiny it's just big maps with respawn zones. Lack of customizing the experience leads to a more generic-feeling game, mission-by-mission. My point is that even when you're doing "new" missions, it feels like deja vu because you just did something similar in the same place. Not a good feeling to have on day one.

Agree with the spongy bosses. Hate them. However, I had one of the coolest times in my gaming history just blasting a special event guy that came in and had several positions and checkpoints. It wasnt horribly bullet spongey and kept us in our toes. Dont remember what it was but it wa sin the mothlands. That was fun, hitting a giants stationary enemy with adds for 30 minutesd is not.

The game is finally starting to give me things for not being in last. This is the begging of a dark new age.

until i decrypt them and get a shit ass common

I'm still not sure how I feel about the PvP, but the maps atleast seem better than the beta offerings. Blind Watch on Control is the only one I despise, though I don't think I've seen all the maps yet. I'm liking the Scout Rifle a lot here, along with the shotty. Even though I think it got nerfed in the patch, shotgun still puts in fuckin' work.

Ive gotten my best gear from PvP. Drops are much better once you hit 20. Gotten nothing but rare weapons and armor with light.

Just hit level 14 and beat all the missions on the moon. My thoughts so far is that the game is diablo/halo. Which is what I figured it was going to be after playing the beta. I like playing destiny more than diablo though.

Well, my package didn't arrive yesterday, and I was home from work sick, and could have used something to play while I was in the bed all day. It's apparently out for delivery now, but I'm at work. Very annoyed, and Amazon is going to get an earful from me when I get home.

Long term project is only good if the content is free. If they plan on charging us for every new addition, then yes the game is severely lacking in content. We already know paid DLC is coming, so are they going to toss any free bones to players or is this it?

Who knows? The game released yesterday.

I'm looking forward to when all the whiners have sold their copies and left, so those who enjoy the game can do so in peace.

is it just me or are there barely any chests? i barely pick up loot. :| i see some level 10s and they look pretty boss.. meanwhile my level 6.... :c
Search every nook and cranny, they are pretty plentiful at least in my experience on the moon and Russia.
PROTIP: Wear headphones and you can hear the "humming" of hidden chests from a nice distance.

Do you guys just pretty much dismantle all of your lower leveled equipment? I feel like there's really no thought as to what I should keep. It's pretty much just keep the highest level gear.
I dismantle anything that isn't uncommon or rare (green or blue). If it's green and below level 10 I store it for whenever I level another class.

Soooooo, back during the beta I joined DestinyGAF, but now it says on Bungie.net that Im not in a clan and DestinyGAF doesnt show up in my name when im on PS4. What gives?
Go back to Bungie.net and re- add the clan on your profile. Should be under 'groups'.

Do Titans just not get sniper rifles at all? I literally haven't come across one single sniper rifle, either through drop or for sale, and I'm level 11 now. It's really pissing me off.

Are certain weapons limited to certain classes?
It's random, grind some strikes or keep checking the weapon vendor on the Tower, if there's none in stock when you check take note of the "Refresh" timer at the bottom of his menu, check back later.
Also there's a level 5 sniper rifle if you have the Vanguard Armory Preorder bonus.

I am always amazed at how much time people sink into a big game after it launches. I played like 3 hours last night and am a level 4, some of you are in the 20s. That is just insane to me.

Anyway, I love the game to no end. My only complaint is having to return to the tower after each story mission. Would prefer an option to return to the Tower rather than the countdown. Its a minor gripe.

I'm surprised at the negative reactions to the game so far. I feel like if we weren't given an alpha and beta, everyone would be freaking out at how awesome the game is "like they did during the alpha/beta). You knew you would have to replay what you played in the alpha/beta, so how is that a negative and "boring"?

It explains my reaction. I never played either and this is easily the best game I've ever played in my life.

How does The Crucible work with different levels, different gear, etc.?

My lame gun did 31 damage. I bought a new one that does 49. Will that make me better in The Crucible or all weapons leveled off to balance things?

I played Crucible at level 5. Then I went back into the campaign and hit level 6. When I did, I got some increase to defense and some other stat. Does that carry over into Crucible?

If so, why would anyone play the Crucible without first maxing out their level and gear?

Really enjoying the game so far, managed to get to level 13 just having done earth and quite a bit of the crucible alone. Moving onto the moon soon.

One thing i was wondering is, how does the game determine who gets loot at the end of crucible matches? From what i can tell its random but i cannot be too sure - can anyone elaborate?

So now that the dust is sort of settling, how is the game? Is it worth the price of admission, I haven't opened my limited edition yet.

So I'm curious at this point, and this is primarily aimed at the people complaining about a lack of story.

What would you do to change it? More cutscenes? More dialogue outside of cutscenes?

Now, I've never played the Halo campaigns but from everything I've always heard, the Halo story is incredibly hokey and kinda... not so great in a lot of ways.

So what were the expectations going into this? Do we want more cutscenes, or do we just want more exposition about what we're doing and why?

For my part, I'm pretty satisfied with the context of the story up to this point. Spoilering it for, well. Spoilers up to the first Venus story mission

From what I gather so far, the Traveler showed up on Mars, people discovered it. It's some sort of benevolent being that gave humanity the gift of "The Light" and thus ushered in a Golden Age. Shit was great for a while, but eventually the Traveler's old enemy "The Darkness" showed up. "The Darkness" seems to be a collection of races that are opposed to the Traveler and show up to fuck over whatever worlds it goes to. At some point the Traveler went dormant (or died) and stuff got super bad. Your character was killed at some point in the past but belonged to a group of defenders called Guardians. These are people that are traditionally gifted super powers (essentially) by the Traveler so they can protect the Traveler. They just so happen to protect civilization too, since society has centered itself onto the Traveler.

Since the Traveler is now dormant/dead, new Guardians cannot be created. Thus, this is why you are brought back to life. Ghosts are small pieces of the Traveler that are still kicking it, but they can't protect stuff on their own. I'm assuming that every Guardian has a Ghost and that's probably the source of their power.

The moon missions end with you finding out that the Traveler is dormant/dead in part due to the Hive obtaining a piece of the Traveler and "infecting" it with "The Darkness". You cleanse it and hopefully lend a hand in bringing the Traveler back to life.

Then some weird lady tells you to come the Venus because you are a badass and you discover the Vex are goddamn terrifying and awful. She then tells you to go out and find the Awoken because "The Light" needs more allies, and they need to be forced to choose a side. They've basically been hanging out on the edges of the (now much smaller, due to "The Darkness") solar system and more or less refusing to get involved.

It seems pretty par for the course based on previous Bungie stories (again, mostly from hearsay) but there's still a coherent story there. Unless of course it jumps off the rails at some point and goes bonkers.

Unless it says so in the game mode, everything is normalized in crucible regardless of level.

I remember someone from bungie saying on an interview that Destiny was supposed to be like TV, an entertainment centre constantly updating. Meaning you would have different content pumped out regularly, and you would be free to "change channels" and do an activity that you enjoy since there would be so much variety. NOW whether this will actually happen, I think only time can tell. I mean people are complaining already, and the game just dropped yesterday /:

Only thing that transfers to crucible are the impact/range/etc stats.
The attack and defense number is balanced among everyone.

Passive buffs carry over as well, so if you have a machine gun that has a passive buff of quicker reload after killing someone, that will take effect in PvP as well.

I've seen a lot of people wondering "What am I even going to the moon for?" when Ghost explicitly tells you that the Hive shouldn't be on Earth, we destroyed the moon to keep them there, so we'd better figure out what the eff is going on there.

Iunno, maybe some people are just blazing through and not catching stuff like that?

All health, defense, gun power, etc is normalized in crucible. Your lvl 1 gun will do just as much dmg as a lvl 20 gun. Although I do think the perks on the guns/ gear carry over which would give some advantage to higher level people.

Just burned through doing bounties bounties bounties and the story. No burn out man, as a former mmo player... All about dat meta game. The game is just starting for me lol, all of this before was just the tutorial.

I'm still a lowly level 7

reading through this thread though, the dissenters seem to be extra loud

How dare people discuss things that I dont like

According to my companion app, 62% of all my HC kills have been precision kills lol.

Love this app. Looks like once you hit Rank 2 with any particular weapon you gain xp quicker with that brand of wep. Nice.
