I'm criticizing what I think is wrong with the game by writing a story within the game's world.

Wait, that doesn't count, does it?

...Figments, sometimes I have no idea where you're going with things but it still made me laugh.

Overall, Destiny is at its best a fun game, and I enjoyed the good chunk of time with it yesterday. It's first game of its type I've played for hours upon hours, so it must be doing something right. And as we talked about yesterday iirc, Figments, the best discussion is with people having fun.

But to me, the discussion hasn't been fun. I won't be able to get my hands on the game again until maybe tomorrow or the weekend when I can drive out to my brehs place 2 hours out, so I can't really get into the look what loot I've put together or 'this just happened' discussions. What I can talk about is my take away, and I'm honestly vexed on why so few believe that sort of discussion should take place.

So i wanted to make a thread, but ill ask here if i should i make it or keep it here.

Now that you have had actual time with the game, What are your impressions? good, bad? whatever they may be.

Good. The bad is there, but I am waiting to see what I think a week from now considering I'm already close to endgame after playing for a whole day casually.

This thread is a buzzkill. I play Destiny and have a blast then come here to talk about it and its mostly negative.

nothing wrong with that at all if that's how most people feel then that's fair.

I hope most of that stuff can move to the review thread if that ever goes up.

and before someone claims I want to be in a positive echo chamber you are right. I enjoy the game and want to talk about what I like not argue about it.

Read my paragraph!

It may elevate your mood!

This is what I see on the roster portion of my menu.

I want to be able to set my fire team to invite only but I don't see any way too =/ All that is there is that box with people in it that opens the party app on xbox one. And no setting the party app to invite only doesn't affect my fire team i already tried it.

Fireteams are set to invite only by default I believe.

Is there a way to wear my helmet in the Tower? My hair is dumb

dude.

I have started probably 8 characters trying to find hair that I like.

I have a problem.

The good news is if you just start the game and run for it, you don't have to fight anything but the small group under the jump ship. Once you enter the building with the ship the games makes you level 2 without fighting anything anyways.

speeds up it up but holy shit just let me skip it.

Click on the icon above your level where it has 3 people kinda on it and you can change it to invite only.

Fireteams are set to invite only by default I believe.

Friends only is the default.

Except the game my avatar references doesn't have ridiculous shit in it like this:

The mission objective is just... wow.

oh no, how can I ever go on

The pvp in this game is glorious. Fucking people saying it doesn't have an identity just don't know how to play it.

I agree completely, and I hate to fall back on a "git gud" mentality, but I've witnessed the same shit from people who played Halo games and complained when an AR didn't kill someone from a mile away. Take some time to learn the mechanics, there is depth, and the skilled person will win encounters the overwhelmingly vast majority of the time.

You can get 100 marks per week.

Glad they bumped up the marks per loss/win...but I think they need to reward more. 100 even at all wins is still 33 matches and some pieces need 100+ to even attain. If the matches were 3-4 minutes that would be fine, but it is going to take too long to max out each week me thinks.

And I've yet to get shores of time after about 15 matches.../boo

I'm disappointed. It's not the second coming, it's hardly groundbreaking, and it's a lot less fun to me than any of the Halo games. Whereas I was concerned about having time for games coming out later this month and in October, I'm now pretty sure that I won't be playing this game past the next few days. It DOES successfully combine lots of genres. The shooting and mechanics feel good but it feels like a soulless product meant to sell you more content (DLC) down the road. Lack of design in the encounters is incredibly obvious if you're used to playing scripted single player missions of Bungie's past games. BUT it sounds like lots of gamers (majority) are happy and I just hope Bungie can improve things like the writing and lack of areas/levels for future Destiny products. .

Do you know what I would absolutely love in this game.. a race mode with Sparrows. Exactly how it works in Halo. Bungie pls.

oh no, how can I ever go on

It's not the end of the world, I'm just saying I don't particularly like the self serious nature combined with the absolutely ridiculous fantasy/sci fi mumbo jumbo.

Cortana at least had some personality and added a little levity to the series. Dinklage is just so boring.

Does anyone know if the 'complete a strike with clanmates' achievement/trophy requires members from the same CLAN or GROUP? If it's clan I'm going to flip.

Well you can go in there technically, it's just you're underleveled to handle those enemies at the moment.

Speaking of, I should go and kill those bastards in Old Earth and that Ogre on that cliff. They fucked me over in the beta. I'm now OP so I will eat them.

For some reason I couldn't find him. I knew my way around earth in the beta, but lost new. I tremendous going to rocket yards in the beta but can't remember going there in retail.

+1

skirmish is amazing

Utilizing the double jump with the Titan, I don't know. I know there were jet packs in Halo but this just feels so much better and smoother and more effective.

Maybe it's that next gen polish, I don't know. But it's wonderful. I never played much Shadowrun, but I imagine it's what people loved about Shadowrun.

I've not seen a single public event.

I had one yesterday (that dropped the server as soon as it was going to begin, but I there was no one around) and two today, but for the amount I've been playing that feels light. First one went great, lots of people to help and everyone shooting legs and then the core and watching each others backs for other enemies). Second one no one was shooting legs except for me and we barely struggled through. Less people and I think a few quit in the middle of it. Both were in The Divide and taking down a Devil Walker (I'm wondering if certain areas will always be the same kind of public events). So far I'm enjoying Patrol with randoms popping in and out the most.

To each his own man, everybody's taste is individual. The N4G chat is ridiculous and anyone who thinks the game is gonna fail on the word of some haters chat hasn't read the news about what it's pulled in financially ALREADY.

At this point, I just hope they use that money and automatic success to iron out the sequels and hopefully make something a little big bigger/deeper/not so far up its own ass.

N4G is becoming a cancer to the gaming community. Wish I could put it in nicer terms than that. But just spend some time there in the comments section and you'll start to understand what I mean.

yeah well bungie said if you want to race sparrows then set it up with friends and do it.

so don't expect it.

I'd be willing to bet in the not too distant future there's going to be a version the Patrol board for each world that's like Burnout Paradise and the Beacons are going to be co-op challenges; races, accuracy contests, who can kill the most blingwads, whatever.

It'd be super easy to do.

You can have that one for free, Bungie, I love ya.

Considering they came from Halo with forge and custom games, and how they want this games lifespan to really stretch.. I'm surprised there are absolutely no tools for the community to do so. Can you even do basic private PvP matches?

holy mother of god

this game

the pvp is fucking DOPE

I was surprised by that too. Not even campaign scoring or theater.

Yeah, I sort of agree. I'm having a blast playing this and I've only done story modes so far (no exploration or pvp).
Like I really want to hear Ellie talk abotu if she will get boobs or not, or ask how men with big dicks walk around with them. ;)
Hey, I loved that stuff! The scene with her and the nudie magazine was awesome. :)

Didn't forge take them two or three games to implement? I'm not saying that as an excuse, I'm just willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they haven't completely abandoned the importance of community in their games.

Quite the opposite, in fact. I don't think Halo 1 launched with this much opportunity for gameplay interaction. (I didn't play it when it came out though.)

What's the consensus on this?

If you like loot and shooters you should be in.

If you liked Halo and want an epic sci-fi story, maybe wait until all the expansions are out and then decide.

If you want a multiplayer shooter..... this one is kinda bare bones but worth a shot.

The mission objective is just... wow.

Am I missing something here? What is wrong with the objective?

Looks like a normal objective in a game set in an alternate Reality/Universe with things with names.

Should it say "Take the unnamed thingy you found and return it to the house looking place near the river".

Maybe I'm missing something.
