Sooo starting the new subclass on harder missions is a huge pain in the ass and not recommended!

No nade, no boost jump, no nothing!

Considering they came from Halo with forge and custom games, and how they want this games lifespan to really stretch.. I'm surprised there are absolutely no tools for the community to do so. Can you even do basic private PvP matches?

they said that if the community wants custom games, they'll add it. whether that means destiny 2 or this game, they didn't say, but i'd hop we can see private matches in a few months. with custom settings and player controlled matches, the game will see more longevity, especially with clans and tournaments.

So i wanted to make a thread, but ill ask here if i should i make it or keep it here.

What's the consensus on this?
Now that you have had actual time with the game, What are your impressions? good, bad? whatever they may be.

Don't make a new thread. Not right now. It will just end up a bloodbath like back with the Beta, though it would be nice to actually have some parity in discussing the game.

It's mixed. On one hand its gameplay loop in of itself is fun, extremely so with friends. The weapons feel great, the abilities for the most part are solid, environments are vast and beautiful, and the enemies can be great to fight despite the bullet sponge nature.

But overall everything in the game feels like it pulled short of its goals. The narrative is barebones at best in-game, with all the lore piled into the Grimoire Cards you access on bungie.net or the companion app. There's no real agency or drive to what you're doing in the game to where it's hard to even consider it a framework for the missions. The missions themselves are generally the exact same thing, though there are some tantalizing exceptions such as The Sword of Crota. The npcs are bare-bone backdrops that don't acknowledge anything or offer more than just purely their services. Environments are devoid of any real soul.

PvP I'm mixed on. Fun, but not a fan of the maps or style. It's barebones as well when you consider these folks are the ones who revolutionized console multiplayer with Halo.

Loot, which is the real point of the game, is pretty standard but not a bad system. Strikes could do with more drops though considering the effort. Game keeps you broke to encourage replays of strikes and areas, which isn't a bad thing.

The social features are great with a party of friends, but can be lackluster for the lone wolf. Right now public events are very hit and miss, though a lot of us are hoping that there will be an increase this weekend. Proximity chat and in-game add features are somewhat missed. Same with in-game clan support.

I want to counter all the naysayers in this thread:

Destiny is FUN, addictive, and polished

Having a blast !

Hop on the train, no need to wait for reviews...

Am I missing something here? What is wrong with the objective?

Looks like a normal objective in a game set in an alternate Reality/Universe with things with names.

Should it say "Take the unnamed thingy you found and return it to the house looking place near the river".

Maybe I'm missing something.

The game chucks Sci fi mumbo jumbo at you without even explaining what it is. You just have to role with it. Takes you out of the experience as most the objectives I have no idea what they are as they are just introduced as such a thing. So I just end up following the marker to inevitably press square and fight dudes. :/ lol

I was surprised by that too. Not even campaign scoring or theater.

I dunno, I'm of two minds on this. On one hand, it would be cool to have private matches and a theater available. But on the other, this game isn't Halo -- it's something completely different that I'm sure Bungie wants to differentiate from Halo. I'm sure they considered these options in the years of development the game went through, but willfully chose to leave these options out.

Is there any way to make the npc speech higher because i can never hear their dialogue. its annoying. didn't find any audio options in game actually but thought to ask.

I have totally nothing against the game, and I know they are definitely going to add more, but isn't it worrisome that everyone is completing so much content after just 1 day?

Titan baby!!!

Is that a defender or striker? What's the super ability for you? Just wondering, haha

can we talk about how amazing the sound design is in this game?

Especially the location based chat when you have voice on the blended option. The game adds effects like echo while in buildings and caves. It also adds radio static if the person gets far away from you.

these little things really make gaming with a headset awesome. I was in awe last night.

Also the Destiny Sound Profile sounds pretty great on the Sony Golds.

No volume sliders, though. That makes it hard to hear chat audio over the sound of gunfire and things going boom, and the great soundtrack. =(

I don't think I'd have as much fun in this game if (a) I didn't have friends to play with in campaign and (b) I didn't care for competitive PvP matches.

This game is definitely for the social/competitive players like me. If you're not this type then I would steer clear away.

Game looks fucking amazing (playing on XB1) but the missions all feel similar, the story sucks, and despite being able to jump between planets, it feels very grounded and small. If the "endgame" is just doing these same strike missions over and over again, that would be a major bummer.

Ah. Hmmm.

Well, I didn't even buy the game but I know Clovis Bray is a...company...or something...in Destiny.

Excoscience would be the study of things outside earth. So that didn't come across as mumbo jumbo to me.

All made sense to me...although, I wouldn't know where it is located in the game, lol.

I'm not much of a social player but man do I love playing with gaffers. Makes the game so much fun than it would be alone.

This is just one part where Sci fi nonsense crops up. In the dialogue and a few other areas I noticed the same thing. Your ghost or voice of the traveller will just introduce a new entity/thing and call it something ridiculous without really even knowing what it is. The exoscience bit isn't the bad part at all lol.

I dislike how many impassable doorways leading to a formless black void there are. Obviously the monsters have to come from somewhere but those things really take me out of it. Also, starting with the amount of ammo you died with when you respawn at a checkpoint is lame.

Blind Watch is still incredibly broken as a map, I'm surprised they didn't mess around with it given it was obvious in the alpha/beta that if you hold the C point it's pretty much game won with B being so close. I like it as a map, but the map rotation isn't very good and I just had that same map 5 times on the run.

My friend and I did the first story mission on the moon. Then we immediately went into Patrol. We spent TWO HOURS running around the moon, checking stuff out, fighting enemies, doing patrol missions, finding dead ghosts and golden chests, doing public events and ultimately found out the moon goes a LOT deeper than we thought. A LOOOOOOOOT deeper. After more than two hours we still have not seen every area of the moon.

This game is utterly utterly awesome.

Just finished the story side of things, and yeah that was awful. There's hardly a story there anyway, and what little there is is told terribly.

Okay.

So is it common to have gold chests glitched? I've gotten all 5 on Earth and it says I only have 4/5. And I've even gone back to all the locations to double check too :/

As an aside, trophy rarity is interesting in early days like this. For example:

Kill 100 Hunters in PvP - 1.46%
Kill 100 Warlocks in PvP - 1.4%
Kill 100 Titans in PvP - 0.73%

Now, are more people picking Hunters and Warlocks over Titans (I picked Hunter, as in every other RPG), or do Titans have the competitive edge over the other 2 in PvP, and need to be nerfed (in the future)?

Ha! I did the exact same thing and I had the exact same reaction. I was like "When does this game get small?"

I think it helps me at least to not use my sparrow much. I like just walking' around, breathing (i guess idk) it all in. It's all just so damn gorgeous.

I've only been to the Earth and Moon but it struck me, "Oh, there's no day night cycle, here, oh, BECAUSE THERE'S NO ATMOSPHERE." Like, how amazing is that, that a game created such a vivid, well designed world where I realized that.

Yo. Why are there are no characters in Destiny?

There are NPCs and talking heads in cutscenes but there are no characters. There's the queen lady, her brother, and the Ghost. That's it. Everyone else is either a shop owner or someone who gives you missions. Bungie brought in a ton of great VA talent (Nathan Fillion, Kieth David), and all they do is spew vacant, foreboding nonsense about the Darkness or tell you to go shoot guys.

I really like Destiny, but this is one thing I cannot understand. How can you create such a rich world to tell stories in, and subsequently fail to tell any story? It's not that the characters are bad, or that the plot is bad, it's that neither exist, or are merely threadbare. This is unacceptable coming from the company that made Halo, especially after ODST and Reach. What were they going for?

I get the sense it might have been their attempt at emulating Dark Souls' minimalist presentation, but it doesn't work here.

I did not realise once you unlocked one sub-class, all other classes you create have their sub class unlocked already. Time to level a bladedancer alt.
