Edit: You can read the first issue of Elephantmen here for free.
It's not the best issue, but it'll give you a good idea of the direction of the book and the cool world Starkings has created.

I got into that book around the time the second volume came out and have been reading it ever since. It's a really cool fusion of pulp sci-fi and crime fiction. I never really mentioned it too often because I know just how obscure it is compared to most books. This is also another example of a series that Image puts out beautiful hardcover volumes for. The most recent trade was simply a TPB (mostly to do with the fact that it was recently re-branded to a certain extent), but the previous seven volumes were all hardcover volumes with fabric bookmarks. Glad to see there's another fan around.

Check out hipflask.com if you like the book. They have a store there that sells some art prints, and it looks like they just put up a bunch of new ones. The Tula Lotay piece of Vanity is amazing.

Just FYI, the paperbacks are exactly the same (same dimensions, same unbelievably thick paper stock, same bonus materials) as the hardcovers and significantly cheaper. I own the hardcover version of the first volume (got it super cheap used on Amazon) and the paperback version of the second volume, and I'd highly suggest going paperback since it's so much cheaper and literally the only things different are the hard cover and the ribbon bookmark.
But yeah, the collected editions are really great products. They have such amazing paper and the bonus stuff is brilliant. I loved the bonus stuff in volume 1 so much. Richard Starkings gives an extensive history lesson on pulp sci-fi comics and it's brilliant. That alone made the purchase of volume 1 worth it for me.

Also, do you have any idea what the deal is with that Elephantmen: Mammoth TPB that just came out?

Edge of Spiderverse #1 was pretty cool. I get the feeling by the end of this event we are going to be left wanting ongoings of most of these books. Like Superior, Noir and Spider-Gwen.

So what you're saying is, don't read the comics, just watch Harley & Ivy again and figure which DVD set Mad Love is on.

Got it.

Mad loves comic is better than the episode and I am talking about the 3 issue mini series of Harley & Ivy

Went to pick up Dredd from the library, found something else on the shelf as well. And I thought Doom Patrol was big.
Yotsuba for scale.

Careful now, make sure you are in the approved official Comic-GAF omnibus reading position before cracking that bad boy open.

As for reviews, if it didn't get 5 stars on Comic Vine. I'm not reading it.

Yeah. War Toys was the book that covered the war that's frequently mentioned in the series. Issues #34 and #35 made a 2-part Yvette back-story that took place around that time as well (as was #57). So they give you that, and then lead you into the main series with issues #1-11.

The War Toys trade and Yvette issues are also in Elephantmen Vol. 00.... so if you read that, you don't need this.

Picked up Lazarus #11, Velvet #7, and Copperhead #1. Between those three titles, it was a good week for Image.

Forever and Marisol's reunion warmed my hard heart.

Jesus christ, this weeks New Warriors is essentially an extra issue of Scarlet Spider. I can't believe this is being taken away from my life again soon.

Meanwhile Spider-Man and the X-Men is the most cynical and bullshit move I've seen Marvel make yet, and yet, its non-Slott written Spider-Man so ehhhhhh? But then Spider-Man isn't a mutant and so this is the stupidest shit. Does Nightcrawler fucking bamf into his life as a scientist and vigilante to teach some fucking kids for hours uggggggghhhhhhhh.

I have had a shit week and I am not really enjoying Destiny much and ugggggggghhhh. Did any of you butts pick up the Regular Show OGN that my friend wrote?

so the book is just ending right?
Yep. The current run is ending after this arc and Marvel has already announced an omnibus for the series.

Of course, they'll probably just relaunch the series and have a new creative team, but that hasn't been announced yet.

Careful now, make sure you are in the approved official Comic-GAF omnibus reading position before cracking that bad boy open.

I don't have a recliner and I'm a pretty small guy (and Doom Patrol is massive) so the Official Omnibus Reading Position wasn't very effective for me :(

Pie and Beans: I didn't buy it, but I did buy New Warriors... That counts for something, right?

So, this Future's End thing. What is it?

It's basically a big what if story line. It's one possibility of where the character's in the DC Universe will be in 5 comic book years. (Though it also covers possible events a bit further ahead in the future also) A bunch of stuff has happened including a war between the main DC Earth and Earth 2, and a bunch of Earth 2 refugees are on the main Earth. It's introduced Terry McGinnis into the main DC universe (since he's traveled back in time to prevent some events from happening), and it seems to involve Brother Eye, and Brainiac possibly.

You know that there are two Spider-Man Noir minis that came out with the other Noir minis in 2009/10, right?
I picked up the Spider-Man Noir: Eyes Without a Face (the second of the two Spider-Man Noir minis) at the library a while back and thought it was a pretty decent read.
I really like the idea of throwing the Marvel heroes back into the Great Depression era. I really enjoyed Daredevil: Noir in particular.

I don't have a recliner and I'm a pretty small guy (and Doom Patrol is massive) so the Official Omnibus Reading Position wasn't very effective for me :(

I'm 5'8" and weigh 125 pounds, so if I can effectively implement the OORP, you can too. Although the lacking a recliner part is kind of crucial.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks. I already have volumes 1 and 2, so I wasn't planning to pick it up, I was just curious why it was a thing. Haha

So I went ahead and bought that Tula Lotay print of Vanity. They must not get much business because my order # was 2 digits and under 50. Most of the art prints (which are all limited to 20) are still in stock. XD

How is Death of Wolverine #2? Haven't read yet.

Only picked up Batman for the Futures End tie in, the FE story bores me, doesn't move forward at all.

& Ivy
Too true. Spidey Gwen could be the most schway thing Marvel has ever done....

Batman was so weird.
So at 35, he's practically dead?
Logically, that makes absolute sense, but it just seems so weird for the character.

Read Hawkeye 20.

Poor Katey-Kate. Forget it, kid. It's Los Angeles. I was playing some dark 80s synth at the end of that issue.

I'M NOT READY FOR THE END, GODDAMMIT, MATT, PLEASE!

Matt and Annie Wu need to start a new series about a female detective on the west coast. I've not had enough of this great west coast detective fiction yet.

The end is almost here, jeez.

Hawkeye was great, I love Annie Wu's art. She is quickly making it to the top of my favorites list, I love "sketchy" styles like Michael Lark (another artist who Marvel needs to have on a big book for a permanent basis).

Poor Kate, her dad is a real asshat it seems.

What did you think? I thought it was excellent and a perfect first issue to get your brain stewing.

Top notch writing with a good hook, an interesting theme for Morrison to riff off of, and (as always) absolutely stunning art from Frazier Irving. I can't wait to see how Morrison works with the
void
idea.

Timm draws the goddamn sexiest cartoon ladies
Yea. Anyone else here have his Naughty & Nice art book? I have the first printing that seems to go for a lot of money now. Great book, but keep out of kids as he does a decent amount of Nude work in it. There is a reprinting with some of the licensed characters removed that's easier to find: http://www.amazon.com/Naughty-Nice-Bruce-Pocket-Edition/dp/1933865474/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1410399028&sr=8-5&keywords=naughty+and+nice

Haha nice. That is pretty crazy. :P

I don't really understand Elephantmen. Is it one of those erotic beastialty books with blood and fighting?

Zombine, did you not read my two posts? :(

On the shelf next to my copy of 'The Art of Amanda Conner'.

19 issues and the Futures End story hasn't advanced a bit. I've no idea what the story is meant to be =/

Worth buying?
The Timm book? I guess it all depends on how much you like his artwork and/or drawings of naked women. There's really not a lot to it other than that; an introduction penned by Jim Steranko that's maybe six pages long, followed by 300+ pages of all manner of pinups by Timm in various themes, stages of completion and undress. I'd say that like 80% of it involves nudity and/or risque material, and the only section devoid of that kind of stuff is the ~40 page section featuring DC heroines (though there are a few that are, uh, suggestive). All devoid of text, typically full page illos but occasionally two per page, and cheesecake throughout.

If you're looking for insight into the man and his method, you won't find it here. If you think Timm draws hot cartoon women, you're in luck.

I could disagree.

Take each character and take where they started and where they are now. That have advanced just very slowly. It takes 4 books to advance a character the equivilant of one book dedicated to said character because you only get 4-5 pages per weekly book of that characters story. They are doing it differently that Eternal where one guy scripts the whole weekly book. In Futures End, each writer is writing only their characters.

I won't argue the fact that it is probably not worth the money it cost to read this every week for most people, but I am enjoying it quite a bit.

They've advanced maybe 4 characters, they've just remembered about Stormwatch this past issue. It's so bland.
