Edit: You can read the first issue of Elephantmen here for free.
It's not the best issue, but it'll give you a good idea of the direction of the book and the cool world Starkings has created.
Just FYI, the paperbacks are exactly the same (same dimensions, same unbelievably thick paper stock, same bonus materials) as the hardcovers and significantly cheaper. I own the hardcover version of the first volume (got it super cheap used on Amazon) and the paperback version of the second volume, and I'd highly suggest going paperback since it's so much cheaper and literally the only things different are the hard cover and the ribbon bookmark.
But yeah, the collected editions are really great products. They have such amazing paper and the bonus stuff is brilliant. I loved the bonus stuff in volume 1 so much. Richard Starkings gives an extensive history lesson on pulp sci-fi comics and it's brilliant. That alone made the purchase of volume 1 worth it for me.
Also, do you have any idea what the deal is with that Elephantmen: Mammoth TPB that just came out?

I got into that book around the time the second volume came out and have been reading it ever since. It's a really cool fusion of pulp sci-fi and crime fiction. I never really mentioned it too often because I know just how obscure it is compared to most books. This is also another example of a series that Image puts out beautiful hardcover volumes for. The most recent trade was simply a TPB (mostly to do with the fact that it was recently re-branded to a certain extent), but the previous seven volumes were all hardcover volumes with fabric bookmarks. Glad to see there's another fan around.
Check out hipflask.com if you like the book. They have a store there that sells some art prints, and it looks like they just put up a bunch of new ones. The Tula Lotay piece of Vanity is amazing.
