What I dislike is how basic the story was, I was never expecting a full lengh campaign but something longer, once I hit mars and did 3 or so missions I was at the final boss which was a pushover with 3 people, every boss in this game is a bullet sponge and you can just hide behind cover and shoot.

The whole leveling with XP to 20 feels like it's there just to make you feel progression as you play, now that i'm max the style of gameplay changes to just replaying areas on hard and farming for loot, oh and pvp which is still great fun right now.

The reef is also there like a tease, nothing is in there and probably won't appear until the DLC hits, then there will be a big fat PAY NOW popup or something as you enter it.

One thing I don't get is why so many people are disappointed by the game but were head-over-heels in love with the beta and Alpha.

I have not played the game but maybe someone who played both and loved the beta could explain. The gameplay in the Beta was amazing, the world and atmosphere borderline majestic.

Here I am with my unopened Collector's Edition not playing because the community I trust more than anyone (NeoGaf) seems so damn divided and disappointed. Words like "flop", "failure", are quite rampant here.
Now that the game is out, we're seeing a much larger sample of critiques than we did during the beta, simply because there are more people playing.

If you loved the beta, you will absolutely love the final game. Objectively speaking, the game definitely has some issues (like repetitive, same-y missions) but nothing that wasn't apparent when playing both the alpha and the beta.

Open your game and have fun.

Just got to Mars. Suddenly ROME.

So far the one Earth area was really... Well I was sick of it. The Moon was basically a series of tunnels. But Venus was really surprising. I really didn't expect any of the stuff that happened on there with the missions. Why are villainous terminators so strong and make scary sounds?

Mars so far looks REALLY interesting as well. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what else there is in this area

After a couple of busy work days, I finally fired this up. This shit right here, it's damn good. Introductory area design reminds me of Half-Life 2's intro in the best ways.

Everything I've played so far only affirms my belief that this game is going to be as big as WoW.

i mean, they're just throwing around light and darkness like it matters. i feel like there's a prequel i missed.

This is the weird thing to me. It's obvious Bungie is better at story telling then what's presented in this game. What decisions were made to have the content delivered and explained this way? Is it because we are all heroes and the struggle really never ends? Surely there is a more elegant way to have an epic story without ruining the danger in the world? Right?

Only you know the value of your money. For me that's not even two hours of work. For you it could be different. Is 20$ under retail would be a good value to you ? if so keep it, otherwise return it.

I'm a full-time college student who isn't working, I don't have too much money and was planning on buying Civ: Beyond Earth day one.

I could still do that with the Destiny purchase, but then my wallet's hurting hard.

Dang. Well I sent the request if it starts working.
Yeah, I just shut off the Ps4. Turning it back on right now. Gonna accept the request fast before it slows down again.

Edit: and it worked like a charm. Alright, I'll join your Fireteam through the in game list. Don't want to deal with the ps4 UI.

<- didn't play the Beta. That said, loving the game so far, (was absolutely tits for Borderlands 2), of course I am playing with the pards when I do play. Perhaps that is the difference.

Very excited indeed to see where it goes, (again, I didn't have any real expectations, and wasn't spoiled on anything).

If it means anything, I'd say Earth and the Moon are actually the worst and most boring parts of the game. The other two areas are super interesting. You'll know what I mean when you do the missions because some weird shit happens.

Also play on Hard. Bigger rewards, and the missions are a lot more intense

Every big Boss in a mmo/game like this is a 'bullet/sword/magic sponge'

Why is it bad only in this game?

They could move around more for a start, I think only one tough guy jumped about, everything else walks and aims in your direction, and maybe warps 10 meters or so.

granted I have yet to try these bosses on very hard and impossible but if they can jump around then, why not before?

And the final boss, don't get me started on that.

People in my house are blasting the other TV so I don't want to turn on my mic and make you listen to that. Haha

Then if your not willing to really play it as your already wondering if you should return it, I would return it. The game doesn't have any online passes or anything of the sort, your bound to find a used version cheaper down the line. The first DLC is due out in december wich will add some content if your into DLC.

Personally I love the game but it can be hard to meet the ends meet as a student, keep it up ;)

Is that it then? Is all the negativity and arguing going over to the review thread so we can actually talk game in here?

How do I get the Playstation Exclusive gear and weapons?

I'd like to know this too!

I replaced the Shingen I replaced my first Shingen for with yet an even stronger Shingen.

Shingen or Cydonia? I've got both now and have been using the Cydonia a helluva lot....but I did only get the Shingen more recently...

Variety is the spice of life. I worry about this game not having enough to keep me coming back. Time will tell. I'm happy I bought it and having friends to play with make a world of difference. Interested to see how bungie will support the game going forward. Daily and monthly challenges need to keep the game fresh and should be unique.

I'm lvl 5, just finished earth story missions, wanna go to the moon.

anyone around the same level want to join me? bonus if you use party chat

Because they thought the beta/alpha was only a snippet, and were being sold on that idea when it turns out the game is exactly like the beta, only an extra place to go.

The Striker Titan's Shoulder Charge may be the best thing I've ever experienced in PvP.

My Defender Titan build is going to have to wait a bit, the Striker is a CQC beast in PvP.

I've put a decent amount of time into this game. I agree with the majority of the gripes but I'm still having fun. That said, I don't think it's the second coming. You could wait. Don't think it's worth hurting your wallet over.

If you are in sword mode as Hunter, and you press a switch, you just see your character stay still because there is no animation for it. haha

You know what this game is(*IMO of course)?
It is HALO in an alternate dimension! I have finished the moon and to me, that is the best description for this game so far.

1. Gunplay

-Gunplay is quite similar to Halo gunplay, minus the variety (which is expected with a new IP) All of the gun types to me feel very similar to guns in Halo and are comparable to the first halo in terms of numbers of choices and feeling when shooting.

-The punch action feels exactly like it did in Halo but seems to be a bit less powerful. You get a grenade and access to weapons like Rocket Launchers and machine-guns. Both are very similar gameplay-wise to their halo counterparts.

2.Visual/Art style-

-The Art style is awesome but a tad generic in Destiny and shares some reference to many sci-fi works. First noticeable HALO type design is the players and their armor. To me, this is very similar to the design of SPARTAN's in HALO, especially the SPARTAN's that you could customize for online play in reach and in Halo 4.

-The design and animations of the enemy races is also very similar. Some of the Fallen soldiers have pretty much the same animations as the Elites in the covenant, other kinda look like they have the Jackel's animations from the covenant.

-The weapons look like standard futuristic stuff and is as similar to halo as any other scifi piece of entertainment. There are also some weapons used by the enemies that look visually very similar to some of the halo enemy's guns'. For example, there is a gun that the fallen use that is very similar to the needler and another one their bigger soldiers use that is similar to the Hunter's gun from Halo.

3. General Story Similarities-

-Guardians- They are a standing army of specialized soldiers tasked with the defense of the last city on Earth... Sounds very similar to Spartans no?

-The Traveler- a mysterious, city-sized sphere in Destiny that hangs low over the Earth. It may be a bit of a stretch but it is this game's Big Mysterious thing that you do not know what it truly is/does until later, much like the Halo's were in the game Halo.

-The Hive- An enemy faction in the game that overwhelms the players and is said to be the primary reason for The Traveler's sacrifice They are basically the Flood from halo. A powerful group of aliens that seem to have a central intelligence and are a swarming type enemy.

-The Fallen- Humanoid type aliens and one of the primary type of antagonists for the game. Comparable to The covenant they are a Hierarchy of aliens who have binded together with a common purpose and have set themselves up as one of the primary enemies in Destiny. The Covenant Hierarcy is based of off religion where as The Fallen Hierarcy is based off of Nobility.

All in all, If you lived on Earth #255 you would probably have a Destiny 5 for XBONE next year instead of Halo 5!

You've clearly not been to mars yet. The cable are straight up ripped from space marines.

Any chance more events or specials are coming? I thought I heard more missions are coming. Maybe they released the game a bit bare bones so it would work. Then they can start tuning things, adding missions and potentially break the game. If possible, maybe they didn't want it broken on release and that is why it's been so smooth?

/rambling.
