Played my first few hours of Destiny this evening. Damned enjoyable stuff so far. Had a great time even just dicking around on patrol with other players. Only level 5 so far, so long way to go I gather.

Just got to lvl 20! :)

I'm absolutely loving this game.

Initial impressions time!

I pulled the trigger on a white PS4 bundle, so had no experience with the Beta/Alpha and haven't been following info on the game religiously. I have a decent level of experience with all Bungie Halo games in campaign/multiplayer.

It looks great and has pretty compelling art direction. Technically very solid, nice design all round. Music is good. The movement and gunplay feel a lot like Halo to me, which is a very good things because I love that aspect of Halo. Looking forward to messing around with different guns/powers. I think they really nailed the combat in this game, which is probably the most important thing to me so I'll keep having fun.

On the flipside, I really feel like the game would have benefited from 1 or 2 more locations. 4 locations is pretty slim no matter how you look at it. A bit of mission variety wouldn't go astray, but I don't mind the more piece meal nature of each individual mission. Makes is easier to just jump in for a mission and jump out when you're done.

In terms of the story.... I actually don't mind the approach! I know people are disappointed, and I can understand that. But personally I thought the story telling on Halo 2 and 3 was awful. The original Halo was solid because it wasn't over reaching. Halo 2 was a total convoluted cheese fest and Halo 3 barely even tried. So I guess I like the universes Bungie creates but don't care for the stories or characters very much.

I also feel like people are misrepresenting the Halo games to an extent when talking about combat. Someone said "every encounter with the Covenant felt unique" but I don't really buy that. There was a decent amount of level variety in the Halo games, and some unique encounters. But a lot of it boiled down to mowing down groups of the same half a dozen enemiey types using the same tactics in similarly designed environments.

I haven't jumped in to PvP yet, but this will be the real factor that determines how long I'm platying for. I played Halo 1, 2 ,3 multiplayer for years each. They all had their strenghts and weaknesses, and I'm interested to see how Destiny feels to me competetively.

I'd say it's a solid 8 for me so far.

I'm absolutely loving this game.

Grats! I'll get there soon, (a lot of work right now, so only getting a couple hours here and there with some friends.

I must have not bought into the hype train or something, as I'm loving the game as well. Really not understanding all of the negativity, but then I am playing with friends.

like the game? /raises hand.

Getting my first heavy weapon: What would you guys recommend, Machine Gun or Missile Launcher?

Machine gun. One of my favorite weapons in the game. Also great for PVP.

By the way, does anyone know how do i get gamestop's preorder bonus in the game? I know they were giving away something with the Limited edition.

Switched over to hard mode and definitely was the right call in terms of difficulty.

In regards to leveling up there doesn't seem to be any type of skill trees but predetermined abilities? So there won't be any differences among the same class at the same level?

There are a few abilities and passive stats that aren't straight upgrades but rather choices. There's also the subclasses that will differentiate people as well as how they build their Int/Str/Disc and weapon loadouts.

Don't think I'd agree with that, I'm also not really sure what you mean. You start earning marks at 16 I believe?

PvP itself is great XP.

I'm level 11. I mean I want to start obtaining PVP currency but if I can't obtain PVP currency because I'm not of the level yet I might as well hold off on doing anymore PVP until I can.

My character is really coming along. I've been playing with a buddy and we weren't so hot on it the first day, but it has grown on us.

I've played over ten hours and I'm only level 13 so there is that...

I Mean I can't believe people got so worked up over this game being "short"
If I make a game with 1000 levels that are all the same, is that a positive thing? People aren't knocking its length, they are knocking its blatant lack of substance for the abysmally sterile content it contains. Doing the same thing over and over again is not my idea of a good time. Something as innocuous as a locked door can present such an amazing gameplay opportunity and story tie-in to expand on the player's interaction with the world and lore. In Destiny, you hit square. That's a problem for many, it seems.

Finished the Daily Heroic mission solo. That was easy -- died fast but is basically like playing the beta where you and everything else dies faster. =(

I think I have played enough of Destiny now.

Why run past enemies, try Idk... Fighting them

Bcuz you get like no EXP from enemies?

Fuck I really need to get a headset asap, all I have is the earbuds the bundle came with :(

I don't suppose steel series headsets work on PS4, do they?

So I'm only level 12 but I have a question... What is the max level that you can go past 20? Seems like everyone will reach it very soon.

I'd love to know if people complaining about the combat are playing it on standard difficulty. I'm soloing while setting missions to hard and having a blast. I can't be sure, but it seems the AI becomes smarter too, as I've had it flank me quite few times and rally together as a group and charge at me at others.

So I've been reading up about the game and watching some streams and stuff, but I still have a couple questions.

How do the subclasses work? Is it just like you hit whatever level and then get to choose a different supercharged ability?

Once you hit max level what is all the "light" stuff?

What's the best way to get armor with light atributes once you're 20? Just run the strikes? Does it have to be in the strike playlists or can you just get them as random drops or by manually doing strikes? And one last question, but you level up past 20 simply based on how high your light attribute is correct? Is there a list out there anywhere or how much you need per level? Sorry lot of questions I know :( This thread moves fast though and I'm still rather confused by it. Appreciate it in advance fellow guardians!

On the fence about jumping in. Liked the feel of the core mechanics from the Alpha/Beta but the amount of complaints about repetition and lack of decent story is a little worrying. How do you set this game as a framework for a whole ip/universe and not make the story/lore shine?

lore and story are two different things. the lore is amazing. the story is weak as hell

What really baffles me is that some of the writing in the Grimoire is legitimately fantastic. Like, the story on the Hunter fragment? A little bit of purple prose, but otherwise top notch. And there's even decent dialogue on the story cards! So there's clearly still writing talent over at Bungie, they just weren't allowed to work on the actual game.

Utterly ridiculous.

That strikes me as something Activision would've had a hand in. Keep the game as open to casual gamers as possible by keeping a lore-heavy story out of it.

What are the main differences between the classes?
I choose hunter but don't know what I got myself into.
Ingame I don't see differences in playstyle compared to my friends who opted for other classes?

Anybody else having issues not running into anyone else? I was just grinding Vanguard points and didn't come across a single person in the last 45 minutes.

Unfortunately it's hidden on the Bungie website. Most of the detailed stuff is on the back of cards in your grimoire which can only be accessed at Bungie.net

Ugh. Wouldn't the sense of discovery and exploration be greatly enhanced by putting it in the world to find? Am I taking crazy pills or is that a no-brainer?

I just wanted to add I bought mybrother a PS4 with destiny today as he will be emigrating soon and I'll really miss him. Me and him will still play PS4 together, so that is something between visits.

As far leveling in PvP is there any info on what that level is? How many shots for each weapon, ttk, damage drop off, any of that kind of thing? What about super aoe?
