who is this guy?
Let me explain my disdain.
I understand the smart-watch will take time (pun intended) to find its feet. The potential is there, but in regards to this as a new product category I just...don't get it.
If a device requires another device to function properly, and struggles to do so (battery life, navigation)...what purpose does it serve?
Smart-phones and tablets are so popular because they have taken functions that traditionally would have been done on a PC/Laptop and improved them (portability, ease of use).
The smart-watch however is merely replicating functions that are better served on a smart-phone, the very thing it is tethered too. It's effectively a second screen.
Consider all the smart-phones that have been sold over the last five years, at what point did we start saying 'you know what, using this thing is such a hassle...I'd love something on my wrist that could do this'?
And even if that question has been asked, does the Apple Watch answer it? No.
From a company like Apple whom with the iPod and iPad have utterly destroyed the competition...this take on a smart-watch is piss poor. I have no doubt later revisions will be much more compelling, but to think this will sell millions when it's clearly half-baked...annoys me no end.
It seems obvious to me that a watch is a much better interface for things like checking the time, reading a text or an email, controlling iTunes, etc, compared to a cell phone.
This is an important element, personally paying upwards of a grand is fine for a watch that just tells the time, so I don't see it as expensive, but I think the concept of even wearing a watch is going to be foreign to many of the iPhone users, so paying a lot for it won't happen.Wish it wasn't $349 tho
Does this have flash memory inside? Can I put a bunch of songs on it? Does it do a lot when my phone isn't also in my pocket?
If the ipod shuffle made into a watch turns out to have more untethered capabilities on its own than the Apple Watch which seems to need a phone for pretty much everything, that's going to be disappointing.
Does it even have a headphone jack?

There's a cool screenshot analysis from ArsTechnica comparing Apple Watch's OS and Android Wear. It truly shows the difference in main focuses between the systems.
Wow, that's quite... the jarring comparison. And really highlights that there was a need for the Apple Watch, if only to make a smart watch seem like a reasonably functional device. That Google Wear UI boggles my mind, were they not even trying?

yeah, I mean we see yet again why Android somehow does things way sooner and is still somehow so forgettable that Apple swoops in with the right way and wins the recognition, and then competition starts after.
They are ugly as sin and straight up piss poor from the icons, to the font to the information density.
my mind is full of fuck if these aren't a joke.
If i took those screenshots two weeks ago and labeled them Samsung, they would get laughed out of every website around. They are ugly as sin and straight up piss poor from the icons, to the font to the information density.
Seriously, its a tiny screen that you aren't going to hold an inch from your face, there needs to be a happy medium, there is dead space in google watch that could be used sure, but thats just ridiculous.

if you told me this was fan made by a 7 year old blind kid with WordArt, i'd believe you more then i would believe this is an actual shipping screenshot from an Apple device.
ffs ... it has a GALLERY app. A gallery app... on a watch...

I liked the idea of seeing them produce a really cheap plastic model for people not wanting to spend so much on the hope of it being of value to them.
Bingo. Why do it on your phone when you can do it on your wrist?
Apple: "Because money!"
Apple is essentially selling an old device and calling it new. Perhaps if there was a complete focus on timepiece functionality, this would make a lot more sense. Not everything has to text.
Or maybe Apple has this vision where they're seeking to REPLACE the smart phone with smart watches. Maybe this is just a test to see how well-received these devices are because they hope to phase out iPhones and completely change the landscape when it comes to mobile telecommunications technology. They did it with touchscreens so maybe they're trying to do it with smart watches.
If not, then congrats to Apple for successfully reselling an old device.
"Why would I want an iPad, my Netbook does everything better and is cheaper!!"
That was the most hilarious part of the video.I don't know if you heard in the conference but Jony Ive apparently consulted with Chronos, Lord of Time, to design the Apple Watch. I think he knows what he's doing.
A watch is the worst interface for reading an email. I dont' want to be scrolling and staring a t a tiny screen trying to read a long ass email I've received. It seems obvious to me that a watch is a much better interface for things like checking the time, reading a text or an email, controlling iTunes, etc, compared to a cell phone.
And Maps...ffs ... it has a GALLERY app. A gallery app... on a watch...
Thank you for posting these comparison images. 101% agree.my mind is full of fuck if these aren't a joke.

Except that's still a pretty poor argument.I don't know if you heard in the conference but Jony Ive apparently consulted with Chronos, Lord of Time, to design the Apple Watch. I think he knows what he's doing.

And yet I would still see it as more user-friendly and intuitive than Google Wear.my mind is full of fuck if these aren't a joke.

Apple spent three years developing the watch. I don't think they would have spent all that time on it if it wasn't the best design possible.my mind is full of fuck if these aren't a joke.

I can't believe this bullshit line is still peddled around.
That website focuses on mechanical watches. Mechanical watch tradition is mostly round.
Digital watch tradition on the other hand, has a rich history of rectangular and square watches. Some of the most popular digitals ever are rectangular/square. The watch that launched the g-shock line had a friggin irregular octagonal watchface.
Well besides the fact that Apple PR chose him to attend the event and provide such access, he also writes stuff like this:The writer knows about watches and is not attempting to pick a side in the google-apple wars so he doesn't give a fuck wether it's round or squared.
The use of so much black in the UI makes me think it's oled. The display is my biggest problem with the looks.Have they said whether the screen is LCD or OLED?
I think building in GPS would be challenging for battery life and size. A compromise might be to support external GPS via Bluetooth. You used to be able to do that with PDAs. Set your route via the phone before you leave, clip I a small GPS receiver to your arm and the watch will track your progress.
... ?! You just reemphasized my point. The writer is a guy who loves big mechanical round watches with bright intricate displays not square/rectangular digital watches with dark dank displays. It's just weird to see someone with his taste consider this thick square AppleWatch as beautiful
"Why would I want an iPad, my Netbook does everything better and is cheaper!!"
That seems to fit the circular ui of the home screen more than the square watch face.
Apple PR chose him[/URL] to attend the event and provide such access, he also writes stuff like this:
The average well-to-do person buys an iPhone 6 because it's the absolute best offering in the category in both form and function.
And someone who is aware of horological history and tradition wouldn't give a rats ass wether a watch is round or square.
I want to be able to have Dick Tracy style phone conversations through my watch, when that day comes, I'll buy the iWatch.
