Yep, you get nothing at all. Which seems to be course for the par when exploring the zones in this game.
So here is my Titan. Light level 23. Having a blast with my buddy so far.
It seems everyone who is 23+ has a legendary item. Did you just get lucky and get a random drop legendary, or did you grind enough to have 65 vanguard marks already?
I guess most of you are playing on the PS4? I have both consoles.

Well from what I've seen (only actually cleared out the basement in old russia where you get the second russian transmission before heading off to find Rasputin) they dropped a slimey codex or something that sold to the Cryptarch for 200 glimmer. So you might get an item to sell for 200 glimmer

Are some chest spawns random?
There was a chest I found before when I was using my Hunter but last night when I went back to that spot with my Warlock it wasn't there. I wanted that loot...

Yes. I killed him at level 16. It was supremely satisfying. Just need to level up a bit to take care of those bastards in the grotto next.

Anyone else having issues with the companion app? It still says Tap to Refresh Characters and won't let me select anything, not even the grimoire.

I think this is incorrect. From what I can tell, the thing on the left is a rotating PvP map/type that offers bonus rewards.

Most chests spawn randomly.
The only chests that will always be in a specific place are the 5 gold chests in each zone

Do blues start showing up in the vendors at higher levels? I'm level 13 and haven't seen one yet.

You have to have gear with +Light on it to get above level 20. Blue gear has some +Light on it, but the Legendaries have way more, so for someone to be above 20, they'd likely have at least one piece of legendary gear, or a full set of blue gear with a little bit of +Light on each. As far as I can tell, you need +20 Light to gain a level above 20. The Legendary I have has +18 Light, and then my blues all have +8-12. As for obtaining the Legendary, it was pure luck. I hit 20, joined a Rumble match with my buddy, got dominated, and I got a legendary for it. Almost all my gear with +Light on it came from PVP rewards, I don't even PVP that much, maybe I'm just lucky? The Hand cannon I'm using, I actually got that from replaying one of the early Earth story missions to level my Defender sub-class.
Seems like nothing. They are killable though.

Meh, I dunno. I've gotten quite a few engrams and unlocked them all as I go. Don't have the patience to wait til I'm level 20.

Daily and weekly heroics are on the left side of the screen and will open up below the one I think you are talking about.
Same as my GAF name just the N is lowercase.

Didnt see an answer, but discovered the sub classes late, about level 19. Got to "Path Forgotten" and things are still upgrading downward, but the next one going right, "Fleet Footed" doesn't appear to be filling up its xp bar at all. If I keep playing, even after hitting 20, will I still be able to max out the bladedancer class?

Yeah hopefully the first quick patch changes the public event frequency quite a bit.
Even getting into about 20 of them during Beta it never felt like anything that could be exploited. So not sure why Bungie decided it would be smart to make them appear once every 4 hours or whatever.

It'd be even better if Bungie implemented purchasing items from vendors directly on Bungie.net and through the companion app (haven't tried the app myself, so I don't know if it does that).

Greens are no big deal. But you'll be 20 faster than you think, its worth just stashing them away rare blues so you can have high level rare equipment as soon as you max out

It doesn't, but that would be sweet. It would almost defeat the purpose of going to the tower in the game though; it'd be quicker to buy stuff on the app than in the actual game itself.

I played Crucible last night as a level 7. I played Clash which is like TDM.
I got my ass kicked... I was trying to rush and flank the side routes solo, but I learned later that the radar will point me out to enemies no matter what I do... which means I pretty much get gangbanged. No wonder why enemies would all of the sudden turn around to me without me engaging! Was quite aggravating but now I know why.
So I'll have to play a more defensive/team style I guess. Stick close by with your teammates and don't think you can lone wolf it, or at least I had no luck with it yesterday (none of my games were 2+ kdr).

They must have seriously nerfed the frequency of public events since beta. During beta they occurred pretty frequently. I've seen one in 17 levels have have spent plenty of time in patrol mode. I also dropped my bounty for completing 3 with a gold rating.
