If my roommate starts playing and I'm at level 20 or so, what will come of me helping him out? Any experience / beneficial loot, or will it be a purely charitable operation on my part?

Basically charity, as the loot you get will most likely be broken down for parts and glimmer.

You get XP which eventually converts to a Mote of Light, which you can use to buy super rare loot.
When does XP become a Mote?

Umm... so I just loaded up the weekly heroic strike. Only to realise it doesn't have matchmaking? Are you SERIOUS?

It sounds like the same logic as not having matchmaking for raid(s). I guess they are making it so hard that they feel you can't go in random. Not sure I like that, but I get the logic. Problem is it feels inconsistent.

Still having a ton of fun with it, and as I had the week off, have a level 20 Hunter (just now starting to get bladedancer stuff), and early on, level 3 Titan, level 2 Warlock.

A few random gripes....
- Over half the time I get thrown into a public 3 man fireteam for strike missions, I'm running probably over 50% of one guy either dropping or being inactive. On the Earth strike mission, two guys were in a corner not moving, so I moved them by pushing them. They shot at me and went back into their corner. :/

- Made on attempt at a raid and failed. The last boss was dumb, and after what seemed like 30-45 minutes of everyone's supers, grenades, and heavy weapons, we got him halfway through, and then it amped up even more. We got wiped, both dropped. The fight, and all the big time fights leading to it, were not fun. It felt like vehicles were the only thing that could even blip the tiniest sliver of damage away from even common enemies, and unless you had a special ready, all 3 firing on one normal dude with their primary weapons was like 3 children throwing pillowy marshmallows at them. In the end, it wasn't fun, and while I know great loot and other stuff are in these raids, I dont really find myself wanting to do them again.

- Am I crazy or in the beta, if you saw someone in the tower, couldnt they join your fireteam like.... really easily? I've only gotten into someone's fireteam once, and it had to go through an invite at the dashboard, and even through we were standing next to each other, it had to reload me into the game. Seems cumbersome, and not what I remember from the beta (or alpha).

- I think the game would benefit from having different spawn points for missions on the same planet. Seems small and silly, but would slightly help relieve the sense of repetitiveness IMO.

- More of a whine than a bitch (is there a difference?), but Ive hit two random public events so far, and despite moments earlier there were 5-6 people around, when these hit, everyone scatters. :(

The only thing is a helping hand, but it might make the experience too easy for him since you'll pack a punch. Maybe reroll a character to level with him?

You actually made an attempt at a strike.

The only raid so far in the game opens up on the 16th.

For a loot based game the drops through 9 levels have been underwhelming to say the least. Glad to hear it picks up later but I think they should have way more lower level rare drops, etc.

I don't consider it "loot based". It's not Diablo. But I get a lot of accessory and gun drops, IMO. Only like 7 engrams though in 10 hours.

The current system is pretty silly. But I think you should always at least have a small chance to get gear. Maybe something like this for a 6v6 match:

Winning team:
1st place: 100% chance to get something, maybe 33% chance to get legendary.
2nd: 75%, 20% chance to get legendary
3rd: 50%, 10% chance to get legendary
4th: 50%, no chance for legendary
5th: 50%, no chance for legendary
6th: 50%, no chance for legendary

Losing team:
1st: 75% chance to get something, no chance for legendary
2nd: 50% chance to get something, no chance for legendary
3rd: 25% chance to get something, no chance for legendary
4th: 10% chance to get something, no chance for legendary
5th: 10% chance to get something, no chance for legendary
6th: 10% chance to get something, no chance for legendary

Sort of random number assignments obviously, but a system like this would be so much more satisfying.

I can't find it in the OP, what's the current system?

Am I missing something, or are clans just for show in-game? I thought you would be able to see all online Class members in the Roster tab, but it sure doesn't look like you can interact with the clan in anyway from within the game. Lack of any matchmaking or (LFG tagging) for both Daily and Weekly Strikes makes completing either pretty much impossible for me.

Bungie is the one missing something

Yeah, it's just for your tag so far :/
I just went 4 games in a row in first place and didn't get a single drop.
Damn son! What mode?
Everyone uses the same weapons in the crusible, that's the A1 auto rifle and rolls with the shotgun, the same issue that was in the beta. They need to nerf the auto rifles or at least bring up the damage for the other weapons.
Scout rifles, pulse rifles, and hand cannons are definitely viable.

They actually INCREASED the damage of those. Yeah. Not kidding.
You may not be kidding but you're lying :P
  • Reduced the base Damage of all Assault Rifles by 7%
  • Reduced the base Accuracy ranges by [14% to 25%], modified by weapon stat
  • Reduced the base Stability ranges by [8% to 80%], modified by weapon stat
I'll vouch for www.gw2lfg.com. It was amazing in GW2 before they had the in-game tool and I used it a ton of times. Last night I really wanted to get the Devils Lair Strike done but didn't want to do it with a PUG. I fired off a few fire team invites to my friend list asking if they wanted to do Devil Lair and got no responses. With using that website I would have just specified what I wanted to do and waited for the friend invites to come in.
Hmmm. Guys, do you think it would be appropriate to make a thread for this...? I really think we could get a lot of utility out of it. The key is that you can just list exactly what you want the group for, like the multiplayer board in Monster Hunter or PSO or whatever. It's a great tool, just need to get some awareness going. Let me know if anyone has any questions about it, I'm not affiliated with the site but used it maybe 1000 times back in the day.

A level 20 helping a level 5 can get experience, or is there a point where mobs are so many levels below you they get "grayed out"?

Also, can someone refresh me on the notion of the soft cap? My understanding is once I hit level 20, my character stats can continue to level up, but my character profile will never display a level higher than 20. Is this correct?

Anybody in the squad I was in yesterday looking to do more PvP today? Let me know. Gonna try to fold a few clothes, then I'll get online.

I wasn't in your squad yesterday but I'd be down to join you later this afternoon if you need one more. I can hold my own as well (1.90 KD and i PTFO), for what its worth.

Maybe it's just luck, but I've been quite a few blue drops just playing Crucible. Got 2 within 3 hours of playing. Still haven't gotten a blue drop for armor though, which I really want. The two drops I got were for a handcannon and a special heavy weapon (which while cool, not what I use regularly).

No thanks. There's already going to be a problem with stacked teams stomping pubs. This will only make it worse. Also 33% chance of a legendary? May as well call it common loot.

It looks like there's a Destiny site up: http://destinylfg.net/

Okay, I'm stumped. I really want to play but the game drops me after little more than a minute now. I'm on a home connection, ports are open, NAT is open, and I'm still getting centipede errors. Is there anything I'm missing, or does the game simply not work?

Play on hard mode- you'll get relevant XP no matter what basically (though of course make sure to have some bounties on).You also still get XP for mission completion.

You can also get engram drops (loot) which will be at your level. I'd say it's totally worthwhile.
Also, can someone refresh me on the notion of the soft cap? My understanding is once I hit level 20, my character stats can continue to level up, but my character profile will never display a level higher than 20. Is this correct?
Sort of the reverse. At level 20, your stats can't go up any more. However you can get gear with a "Light" stat. Equipping enough of this will raise your display level beyond 20. The min needed for the raid is 26.

I am of the opinion that the Crucible CAN be as fun as Halo when you're playing on a decent team that is coherent and knows what they're doing. If you're not, there are elements designed in the game that will just accelerate how fast you get frustrated which kills all fun factor, such as supers and heavy weapons.

I definitely think if Bungie can wring out as much of the PS4's power as possible to achieve a 16-18 player BTB style playlist with large maps and vehicles, they should at least try and do it. Destiny could really benefit from that style of PvP.

Understood on both fronts - thanks!

This will likely be my course of action. Thanks all!
No wait! Make a new character if you want to, but they undersold the ability to help out lowbies! Play on Hard and you WILL get decent rewards/XP!

I checked it out. Endorsed. Can someone give me the all-clear to make a thread on this? It will really help out the experience of the average player.

Everybody is overpowered in the crucible it is hilarious. I do not think I have ever played a multiplayer fps where it was so easy for everyone to get kills.

It's disappointing when randoms don't accept fireteam invites - especially when we spend the bulk of the mission moving around together anyway!

The end parts are where I need a buddy!

Can't figure out if levelling is slower/faster. I'm already level 7 and I don't feel like I've played as much as I did during the beta. I thought it was supposed to take longer but I feel like it's going quicker.

Also finding it more of a challenge. Enemies feel more powerful. Tried fighting this huge enemy in Old russia (public event?) can't remember it's name. I remember killing it a few times during the beta but can't kill it at the moment.

Still enjoying it though! Just been playing myself.

A 33% chance of getting a Legendary is way too high. It should be closer to 5% just for the guy who finishes first on the winning team.

I use the scout exclusively and see it a good bit in mp, especially after they nerfed the auto. Fusion rifles haven't been super rare either. I've yet to see a single hand cannon though

I'm surprised more people aren't using HCs in PVP, they're so freakin' powerful and awesome. Don't tell people that, though :p

Let 'em keep using their ARs

Just completed the weekly heroic, jesus, arc damage was so boosted enemies in Devils lair were 2-3 shotting me at lvl 24. Glad the arc damage boost works both ways, my grenade were doing 4-5k dmg per ennemy hit.

Pretty hard but it was fun.

Should have been expected. I wasn't overly confident in the PvP of Destiny considering Bungie's last effort was Reach. Its better than Reach, but not groundbreaking. I can have fun in it though, which is what counts really.

Yep. That's the main reason the PvP is so awful in this game. So much scrubby bullshit that makes it easy for even a blind person to get a 5 kill streak. Also the maps were probably designed by that same blind person. Just awful.
