Oh I see, Diablo 3 was sadly my first Diablo.

At the end of Diablo 1, the character you're playing as has to smash the Soulstone containing Diablo into his fucking forehead and carry it around with him, only to eventually be driven insane and unleash Diablo for you to fight again in the second game. How fucking awesome is that?

The third absolutely betrays how awesome all of that is and how badass the first 2 Diablo games were.

It's so disappointing how much personality this game lacks. I'm half way through the game and I couldn't tell you a single character or enemy by name. Bungie did such a good job with adding personality into Halo. The grunts, elites, and other enemies all had their own memorable personalities. They also did some cool stuff with the Red vs. Blue stuff. All of that set a fun tone to the game. Although, I would say that personality has also been missing from Halo since Halo 3.

Really? You don't remember any of the enemy names? I'm not even halfway through the game, haven't played any campaign since yesterday, and I can easily recall dregs, vandals, shanks, wizards, and acolytes. Probably a few more if I thought harder.

Very Solid gunplay, and that is the 80% needed to make an amazing FPS. I think that this game is just a Patch away to be a 9-10 game.

Just imagine this patch notes:

I just want the grimoire to be ingame and matchmaking for Raiding. In this day and age, Matchmaking is more useful for a game then it is not.

I was secretly hoping that when Bungie paired up with Activision, that they would talk to Blizzard about things. Yes yes, they keep saying Destiny isn't an MMO, and yet...that's what it feels like. Especially when they said that the real game starts at level 20. It's like...you only say that for MMOs, that the real game starts at max level.

I can remember the names, but I couldn't tell you what each one looked like.

Boy am I glad I was too late to get the LE. They promised so much and delivered almost nothing. I don't think I will purchase any DLC and/or sequels.

Well I hope you can remember those names, they're about as generic as possible :-P

Boy this nails it for me: (especially the last sentence)

NZ GAMER "Destiny isn’t a bad game, by any means. If you like sci-fi shooters, you’ll get a good 20 hours of enjoyment out of this. But that’s really all it is; a fun, forgettable shooter that plays it safe and sticks to what’s been proven, with nothing to really set it apart from it’s peers. But maybe that’s for the best, because Destiny’s one area of attempted innovation - it’s hyped up social elements, persistent world, and multiplayer gameplay, are it’s biggest failing."

I like it, but it was way over-hyped (IMO) Since playing the beta I've been saying it's 3 parts Halo, 1 part Borderlands and a splash of Mass Effect....again not a bad thing, but I've been there already. Now that I've got some more play time (about 8 hours) it reminds me a little of a sci-fi Diablo, in the sense I really don't care about the "story" and I like co-operatively destroying enemies, leveling up my character and getting loot. Like Diablo it gets a little repetitive as well.

Anyway it's a good game - I'd say 7/10

Absolutely nailed it. Honestly the only reason I'm still playing is because I haven't had a game to play with with a lot of my online friends, so this fills the gap for awhile. Playing solo (even in a group) is the worst thing ever, and couldn't be more boring.

Want us to speak of Destiny universe like Lotr Star Wars or GoT ? How ABOUT THE GRIMOIRE on the disk then ? There is litteraly NO lore on the disk. Someone got paid to writte a thousand page long lore and mythology in this game and it's not even inside the game. What a stupid idea. Bungie deserve the backlash. The game is good. But nowhere game changing nor revolutionary. It's doing some good stuff. Some other are just plain stupid. Was this really play tested ? It's something I wonder a lot playing this game

This is the most genius review I've ever seen.

The shadow in the room covers the Raid, going through the room backwards is more appealing like the endgame compared to leveling (going forward over and over), computers and some more computers are the bit of the lack of variety, the sound is the plot - not much of it really, but hey, for an empty room that is a decent sound... Going around is the story on normal, jumping up the step is switching to hard mode (you may die more often but better rewards and challenge)...

This guy is my freaking god as far as game reviews go.

Here's a question for the hive-mind in the thread:

If I'm looking for a game to play as a bro-op loot shooter with my roommate and perhaps a few online friends and I will never touch the PVP (and I do mean never) would this game fit the bill for now?
Or should we just wait for BL Pre-Sequel as we both played BL2 a truly ludicrous amount of hours in co-op.
I really love the art style in this game, but if PVP is where the "fun" is at, it's not the game I want.

Story is a JOKE so far for sure, and I'm very easy to impress when it comes to story. Halo is my favorite sci-fi universe after Star Craft. So what the he'll? This darkness nonsense is pissing me off. They need to have a more tangible antagonist. With real motivation.

But other than that I'm loving the encounters and firefights. The gameplay is fun, but seriously the story pisses me off so bad I might just return this.

The "funny" thing about the release embargo is, the ad campaigns are filled with magazine/website quotes based on the alpha/beta impressions, but the way they present it, it seems like they refer to the final game. It does feel intentionally missleading.

who would that be exactly?

I still haven't finished the game, but do we ever go back to Old Russia to fight the Hive that had ?? for levels, or is that only going to be accessible via DLC?

EDIT: Got the answer in a different thread, and the answer is you can go back and fight them when you are level 20, for those who also didn't know.

Don't even bother.

I am right there with you, man. I am just stupid easy to impress with story. I am just enamored with the Halo and SC novels. Seriously love those things. But Destiny just...might as well not have even bothered to try.

It's just very average in my opinion, people were expecting a lot more for saying it's coming from the creators of Halo.

If this is the wrong topic to ask just tell me, but here it goes:

What is wrong with the PvP? I don't played it yet, so I'm blind about that (the PvE issues I understand and read about it already).

Another thing I wanted to add is he maps seem sort of lackluster. They are beautiful and there are 10 maps. The problem is there are 4 planets (counting the moon) and each map is set on one of these planets. Then you end up with maps that look really similar in terms of backdrop and envrionment.

Absolutely love the gunplay and art design.

Absolutely frustrated with the lack of matchmaking and communication limitations.

Yesterday I played 10 matches of crucible and the only maps I played on the entire time was first light and bastion. it seems to favor giving you a map from the planet your already orbiting around.

If Destiny was a strictly pve game, i.e. cut out the pvp from what it is, I would have gladly bought it and it still would be my GotY so far. I quite like the pvp, but I'm sticking to PvE for now and it's just amazing. And amazing on its own, even though it truly shines with friends on mics.

I envision this being the biggest backlash post-launch for an immensely hyped game. (BF4 level I'm hoping)

At least I hope it is, or else were just going to keep giving in to this pre-order over hyped bull shit. They deserve to have to struggle with regaining the trust of their fan base.

We'll see what happens, it did sell loads so I'm probably just reaching.

this was hyped at E3 as an incredibly large scoped, large-thinking game.

it's an unbelievably small-scoped, small-thinking game.

that's the problem.

if there was no overhype, people wouldn't be upset about a nice shooter with pretty graphics and some oddly jammed in MMO trappings (that make little sense in the context of a game that has no exploration, no map, no communication, only one town, and nothing really resembling a living world, but I guess that's another rant). That could be fun and cool.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

We played the alpha and beta. Most of us predicted that the full game would be the same. Great expectations based on words and not the actual product.
Did we? The general feeling here was that the world would be greatly expanded beyond the beta and it was just a condensed preview of the game, level caps and reduced loot etc.

Surprised this isn't being blasted more in reviews. There is absolutely nothing revolutionary about this game and it feels so bare bones compared to what it was hyped up to be.

Ya...the gunplay is decent and it looks ok but the game is seriously lacking in any kind of variation.
