fellow gaffers, honestly, how is this game?

I was mildly interested, not as hyped as most of the people, but still interested somehow. but then I read a lot of complatins, of lot of "meh" and flaws about the game. "huge areas full of nothing, story mode doesn't have matchmaking etc." - which doesn't sound goot at all.

however my main concern is the competititve multiplayer, because usually that's what I play the most. in Halo Reach I enjoyed the competititve multiplayer, can I expect something similar here?

The competitive multiplayer is amazing, worth a purchase for that alone if competitive is your forte.

If you're looking for a great storytelling experience, you will be let down.

I hate this game, straight up hate this game. Spend 3 hours running level 22 strikes, get a full inventory of shit to decrypt, go decrypt it. And I wish I could say it was fucking nothing but it's fucking worse, It was 99% nothing, and the second to last thing I decrypt happens to be some purple motherfucking boots. I'm all excited and shit until I open up my inventory to equip the badboys just to be greeted with:

This is just beyond terrible, your chance for legendary is already super low and apparently you can get them for classes you're not even playing. That's mindblowingly retarded in a game that has no trading functionality.

You can trade between your own characters. Atleast you have that so if you ever level another class you can speed it up by gifting loot to your new class.

Another day in the books, might run some more later. Got up to lv. 19! BladeDancer is calling hard but I really want to get up to being able to use 2 throwing knives. I just love those damn things. My suit has me at 100% effect with speeding up throwing knives recovery so I get one incredibly fast, especially if there is ammo laying around as picking it up makes it jump up even faster.

Got to Mars and having a hell of a good time. These strikes are intense and insanely fun. I love getting out of them with 0 deaths. Makes me feel good! I've had to trade in all my good rare gear for even better uncommon gear for around my level but hopefully I can start running Mars strikes and get that all back tomorrow!

Damn good time. Oh and finally did my first pvp match today, for the grimoire score lol. Meh. Its PvP. About what you expect these days. Run around in circles, die, kill, move on.

good to know.

I was expecting the story to be garbage, to be honest. I won't be disappointed if it's as bad as people are claiming, really.

in my first strike successfully made with destinylfg.net :D the people are decent too!

but I can't hear audio in my earpiece anymore :[ what the...

i hope the port isn't damaged...

So, what faction should I join? Also, I've been putting off learning blade dancer tree, to finish the initial one. Maybe I should go back.

This has probably already been asked but is there a way to know exactly when and where public events happen? I've only come across one so far and I think I'm already near the end of the story. I want to participate in more public events but I don't want to fuck around aimlessly waiting for them to randomly appear.

Would someone be able to explain the significance of gaining higher levels beyond 20? As far as I know, none of the skills are locked away by a level so technically I can stay level 20 and keep unlocking new skills by completing quests, killing things, etc. Also, raising a level, at least to my knowledge doesn't raise your base stats. I'm also noticing that the new armor I found that contains Light has lower defense than the armor I had without Light. I'm basically just confused about why I'd need to go above 20.

So I'm on Venus and did the first story mission on the planet, how many more missions do I have to go to complete the story? I want to get the story out of the way, but there's no real desire for me to play it. Having more fun in crucible.

Wait until you get to Uranus! Bwahaha

I'm so sorry.

Heroic missions/strikes have enemies over level 20.

Other than that, I'm unsure.

Raids and Strikes that require level 20+. The Raid for example is 26, and so you will be locked out from it, There are also some enemies on Venus and (I think) on Mars that go past 20.

Whats the best way to get good gear? Strikes? I'm doing the story missions right now and I just cant seem to get good gear.

So from that I gather it just gives me access to events?

But again, if I'm facing level 24 enemies, wouldn't it be the same thing if I faced them at lvl 20 and at lvl 24, since those levels don't raise any stats? Or does the armor eventually start outclassing the base level 20 armor

Sorry guys, this has got to be the only game I've ever played where I didn't understand the point of gaining levels past the soft cap

Was doing a Moon mission 2 levels above my level. Was quite hard, get disconnection error twice. Last night d/c'd twice attempting a missions as well. Fix your shit Bungie.

Am I wrong for following the old RPG adage of not buying weapons from shops? I'm expecting the best gear to be earned. That leads me to completely ignoring the shops.

Gets mail that contains either rare, legendary, or exotic items for leveling up my Cryptarch...

... All items that I already have. :(

I'm honestly VERY surprised at the amount of dope ass gear you get from the Crucible. In the beta you never, ever got anything worth while from there.

Pretty much.

It's also a given that any expansion will raise the level cap. So it gives you a head start for future content, I guess.

Here's a video so you can see this shit happen the way I did.

Ok, that sucks :( I guess they expect you to have multiple max level characters, eventually, but sure as fuck doesn't help your initial run much :( Pretty disappointing.

You can get really good green and sometimes blues from vendor. I bought plenty of gun along the road. (Currently level 24). Now I use a weapon I found but I mostly used vendors weapon while leveling.

I went from level 6 to 14 in the crucible but didn't really get good gear. I do have 10 uncommon engrams for various things but i'm waiting to reach level 18 to decrypt them (currently level 16).

Care to explain? So far all the bosses are bullet sponges and you are given a ton of cover.

Boss battles end up being

- Hunter firing from range, eventually fires his super ability.
- Warlock firing from range, eventually fires his super ability.

and

- Titan firing from range, torn between popping a useless cover/shield (because you are given more than enough environmental cover), and killing himself with his super ability.

Ward of Dawn doesn't seem meant to replace environmental cover.

Early in Defender progression, your main uses for it are going to be forcing resurrections in places you otherwise would have to wait on someone's respawn, or blocking a fire line on an existing cover's flank so you don't have to give up a position for a wave of boss fight adds. It lasts long enough to allow you (or a teammate) to take some very advantageous positions during boss fights without much risk, like the top level overhangs in Cerberus Vae III.

Subclass progression will make a big difference though, because you'll start to be able to use Ward of Dawn to buff players (preferably with bonus damage for PvE) and then later also feed them super meter in the same duration. Around that point you'll probably be changing your typical WoD positioning for the most clear place everyone in the fireteam can access without fucking up anyone's firing lines, and using it for a rez or something will generally be a waste (though you will still want it in a position where you can force consistent enemy fire onto it to generate orbs for your team).

A fully buffed WoD will give your team a spherical point of cover they can walk through instead of around, that buffs their damage and spits out orbs of light for the entire duration. You'll wind up supplying much more damage to the encounter than a regular super because your teammates will likely generate +1 Super of their own (possibly more depending on how many orbs it allows it to spit out), and on top of that you have a significant period of buffed gun damage. You could technically generate even more orbs during add waves through Gift of Light and Iron Harvest, but I'd probably rather have War Machine and Illuminated in those slots for PvE.

I heard they fixed that since beta and it rolls at the level you got them now. I could be wrong but I could swear I saw it somewhere.
