I thought you just had to be wearing a factions armor piece to then be able to gain marks for that faction during heroic Strikes and such. Stuff that would usually give Vanguard marks

All the other factions require Crucible Marks along with the reputation requirements. So you have to PvP.

Is there a chance to get a Mote of Light if you dismantle a rare item?

You can immediately upload to twitter / facebook

pretty soon they will be putting in the ability to immediately upload videos to youtube thank god. not like it is hard to copy to USB, then transfer to comp then upload to youtube. But the less steps the better

Thanks. USB it is then! Not quite up for filling my Facebook feed with videos of dancing guardians lol

Need to decide which faction I wanna start earning for. And get some legendary/exotic stuff! Like gold dust.

What level are you? You're going to need much better gear than that later on. I've been running mostly strikes and story missions and I've got all blue (with light) and one purple.

I'm only level 5 which is why I asked if it's feasible to rely only on crucible gear drops.

It's nice to see the gear doesn't affect one's performance that much though. I'm constantly my team's first or second.

I finally got this last night.... pretty good.

I can't imagine playing alone, it would be boring as hell. It was great for a night but I wonder how much time I can put into this game. I'll be max level before too long and I'm not sure it was the content to keep me coming back for months.

Still, lots of fun.

neat.
I used Catapult and Shoulder Charge to 1HKO jump kick the opposing player while he was in a turret firing at someone else.
Also killed someone by Shoulder Charging straight at them while they were firing at me with the Pike(the hover bike with weapons).

This.

Factions reputation is gained from doing PVP bounties. Crucible marks are gained from just playing PVP (3 marks for a win, 2 for a loss).

So don't join a faction if you don't play a lot of PVP.

After initially being underwhelmed (maybe because of playing earth to death during the alpha/beta) but now I'm on Venus and mars the game is really opening up and I love it. A strike on Venus is so much like attack on the control room.

Anyone else having connection issues?

Tried a Daily Heroic, connection always drops right after the ship loading screen.

Also tried a Playlist, got in, by 5 minutes later connection dropped.

Was working fine the previous 3 or 4 hours.

getting to level 12 all alone, not playing with anyone until I change my ISP next month

i don't have friends anyway :(

still enjoying this game and love explore grinding

I've been waiting all week to really sink my teeth into Destiny. I've gotten to about level 6. There is absolutely no way I can get anything done at work today, I'm just chomping at the bit.

Can anyone tell me why my companion app won't load my characters or my grimoire cards. I've had it downloaded for over 24 hours and it says "still loading" for most of the features. Any tips?

PvP by a country mile. But Bladedancer is seriously OP as fuck. Honestly, I can't believe it passed QA like that.

In PvE its great for cleaning up swarms of common enemies that spawn just to pester you and distract you from the bigger enemies and bosses. That's what I use the class for in PvE. Bladedancers can get a lot of damage on the bigger enemies, but often they will just get smashed by them eventually because its a super that requires you to be right next to them continually smashing.

In PvP its situational. You gotta be near enemies and you're still vulnerable, albeit hard to hit. I still haven't used it to much effect in pvp. Its hard to find multiple players in a tight enough spot to really slice through them.

I've been considering switching back to golden gun for pvp if I didn't want to level blade dancer more

Nope

Factions: there are three factions in Destiny that you can join once you have reached level 20; Dead Orbit, New Monarchy or Future War Cult. When you reach level 20 buy a cloak, mark or bond for your faction of choice and you can now begin to buy Emblems and Crucible gear with Crucible Marks.

Faction Reputation: you earn this by completing Bounties with your faction cloak, mark or bond equipped.

You can do Vanguard bounties and as long as you have that factions class specific item equipped you can earn reputation toward that Faction

But isn't the stuff only for PVP anyway? I dunno. Confused. I guess the equipment is for PVP but you can wear the Cloak / Mark / Bond anywhere?

I'm conflicted about the Venus Loot "Exploit".

I can't wait to try it, but it would also "beat" the game in a few hours....

The drops become more frequent but I guarantee you won't have enough to steamroll all the content after doing that for a few hours. At most you'll come away with lots of materials from broken down greens.

I am not going to use the sparrow. I think i prefer wandering the wilds, bumping into all of the random stuff that might happen

SOOOO MUCH THISSSSS.

You won't regret it. Every nook and cranny of this world (these worlds) is phenomenally lush and detailed. I just hit Venus last night and my god.

My god, this game.

I wish the heroic challenges had matchmaking. Difficult organizing people on the spur of the moment.

Things cost too much in this game

I need weapon parts man!

The Luke Smith effect (I say this because he loves MMOs and all that) lol. Reach was the same way - everything was super expensive and required grinding. Some parts of Destiny are very rewarding, but I feel like it requires way too much grinding. A better balance is needed for people that don't have hours upon hours.

Yes, I've seen it happen. I've had a piece of armor go from 9 Light to 12 after upgrading.
That's good to know... so thanks. I've upgraded so many and hadn't seen that happen so I will definitely keep an eye out. Guessing it doesn't tell you whether it will add light or not?

I don't know how you could do it with randoms (assuming they don't have mics/communicate/etc...). Since you HAVE to revive your teammates, you have to call out enemy positions, etc... while working your way over to your teammate or having them do the same for you. Takes a good bit of communication and seems like randoms jumping in likely wouldn't be prepared to handle that in a lot of cases. Not all though.

Already spotted a few people running around doing their own thing, helped a few my level and saw a few 20's doing their thing. Did my first public event with 2 players and that was hectic. Really don't like Bungie throwing mounts at people this early. People much be missing so much potential fun.

Right, but see how in that thing you quoted it says you buy gear from them with Crucible Marks? You only get those from Crucible. The faction item lets you get rep for them which unlocks the ability to spend Crucible marks on that faction.

Anyone know a good way to farm spin metal? I'm gonna need a lot of it for this legendary gear it seems. I've found it occasionally in patrol and on a few strikes but it seems pretty hard to spot.

It's growing with wild abandon at the cosmodrome. Doing story missions the other day I must have come across 12 nodes.

I have a feeling (if its even technically possible to do at this point) Bungie might consider adding in the matchmaking AND/OR adding an opt in voice chat option or something that makes it easier rounding up randoms. The fact that you can inspect people in the tower or in the wild and invite them to your fireteam but not be able to talk beforehand is kind of silly...

For sure.

But hey, we all play for our own reasons. :)

A bit of a hint for you guys, I found a treasure trove for chests on Venus, in the caves outside the entrance to the lair of the Winter Fallen and sometimes on the steel walkway as well.

There's about 6 caves all in the one area evenly spread out, and I did about 6 orbits of the place and managed to find about 12 chests. All of them gave me mostly glimmer and the consumable material you can find on Venus, but I did get lucky once and got a Mote of Light and various other weapons and armor that were well below my level, but I salvaged them for parts regardless.

If you want to get access to the factions stuff you'll have to do a fair bit of PVP to earn crucible marks (3 for a win and 2 for a loss up to 100 in a week maximum).

Weapons cost 150 crucible marks and armor 65 crucible marks.

You also need up your rank with your faction to level 2 for armor and level 3 for weapons.

Here's where it gets a little hazey. I'm not sure if you can just wear the bond etc and do normal bounties (PVE) to gain the reputation. I thought it was only PVE bounties but having read up a bit it may be all bounties net you faction rep.

I've had an epiphany.

During a heated debate amongst friends that resulted in a class-war last night, I, as the only Hunter of the group, and playing up to the whole "frabjous" thing, started role-playing my character over the mic in a Zoolander-esqe type way.

Every time I found a sweet piece of gear, it was all "I'm so ridiculously good looking" blah blah blah. You get the idea.

Anyone who is familiar with Zoolander will know what Magnum and Bluesteel is.

Here's the megaton.....

Magnum = Golden Gun
Blue Steel = Arc Blade

Hunters are space models confirmed.

It's hard to spot but it spawns in the chests scattered around old russia. I've been turning it in for 200 glimmer / faction rep. If it's used for later armor/weapon upgrades I'm going to start stashing it.

Anyone else finding the rank/rep thing moves way too slow?
