Thanks for the patrol help. I think being colorblind didn't help, the icon didn't stand out, I had to scroll to each one until I found it.
The encounter design is already starting to grind a bit. With the shared world comes the respawning, static enemy locations so the dudes just ahead of me don't clear out the level before I get there. But it all comes down to killing small groups of rapidly respawning enemies.
For the patrol mission, I cleared some enemies, scanned the first beacon to get the mission, then turned around and the enemies I'd just killed had respawned 20 feet behind me. I turned the game off there. That's not just not fun, but it's how nearly every encounter I run into has gone.
On a prior mission, the one with the old boats everywhere, the actual world design is great. And there appear to be lots of ways to work through and approach the encounters. But due to the respawning enemies, it's all for naught. There was a ship filled with enemies, and a low bluff just to the right of it. I cleared the bluff of enemies, sniped the guys on the ship, then moved in and finished up. Then I immediately started taking fire from the guys on the bluff that just respawned. I go back to kill them, and the guys on the ship appeared again.
There's another situation where two ships are side by side, with my objective in one of them. I clear the ship adjacent to my goal, then board the other ship, and suddenly I'm taking fire from both sides as the guys behind me spawned again. So instead of an approach designed to give myself cover, I ended up pinning myself between two lines of fire.
So now I find myself trying to game the spawn system to avoid these areas. Instead of evaluating a space for the best approach, I evaluate it for how to best avoid line of sight to the spawn groups, since I know it's pointless to kill them in the first place. And that's when I stopped having fun with the game.
