Destiny was a title that was hyped beyond belief and had a massive marketing campaign behind it, yet quite a few game review sites were critical of the game's failings and scored it accordingly. Do you trust them more now as a result?

No they did not. Maybe aside from IGN, Destiny wasn't getting much hype. These are the same outlets that hyped the game up relentlessly in the first place.
Don't bother. Showing positive previews is apparently "over hyping" things. No they did not. Maybe aside from IGN, Destiny wasn't getting much hype.

It wasn't really games media that did most of the hyping for Destiny, it was actually mostly gamers as a result of their experience with the Alpha and BETA. This thread in particular really highlights that.
Destiny: How did the Alpha affect your opinion of the game? Vote inside.
I'd agree but betas are hit or miss. They are good to judge gameplay but content is frequently skimped for sake of spoilers. In Destiny's case, we only found out that the content was basically the same after launch. Core mechanics? Sure, judge the gunplay. Story, content, social aspects, etc - can go either way. There is no rule of thumb with betas so absolutes like your comment can't work.I don't understand what's wrong with destiny? Most people played the beta and knew exactly what to expect.

i haven't legit paid attention to game reviews since i became a working adult and could make up my own mind about a game.
Taking Jeff's opinion without your own filter means you're going to miss out on a lot of great games.I trust them and when I mean them I mean Giant bomb. They called this game since day one (at least Jeff did).

How many times has it been proven that these cases aren't the norm? But keep that tin foil hat on, they are out to get you.Replace destiny with titanfall. And the answer is still no. Publishers will always ink sponsored deals in which articles are published promoting new titles, same for all consumer products.
I never cared about gaming media before why start now? I don't need someone to tell me what to think.
