I think I might be going slightly overboard with this recliner comic. It's taken me 30 minutes just to draw the rough blue lines of the first panel.

It will surely be worth it.

Yea that's where I'd recommend you start.

Sweet. Thanks!

Edit: It's official. I am absolutely horrible at drawing people sitting.

Will there be Comic gaffer cameos?

There will be now.

I imagine people in suits with avatar heads.

I wanna see THAT comic

Hahaha. I need to do that sometime.
That's totally how I imagine people in this thread. Which makes me wonder every once in a while what people imagine I look like with my avatar of a robot and gorilla kissing.

Grayson Future's End is about the only thing from the whole event worth a shit.

It has Frankenstein with Hawkman's arm. Anything with Frankenstein is worthwhile. He killed Hitler!

I don't know what happened to Starman James Robinson

That guy vanished 4 or 5 horrible series ago.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, what can/should I read? I've read nothing with then in it (other than their really short appearances in Doom Patrol).

I would also like to know the answer to this.
Those pages posted a few pages back were from Justice League International by Giffen I believe. Is that the best place to start?

Start with the original Justice League International run from the 80s, at least the first two years or so of it. Every issue is basically like what was posted, and has some scenes that became classics that DC riffed off for years, like Guy Gardner vs. Batman. That and Morrison's Doom Patrol are basically my favourite ongoing runs of all time.

After that, the creative team reunited for a couple of trades - Formerly Known as the Justice League (which won an Eisner) and I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League. Both are great fun and have Maguire's impeccable art.

Then if you want to ruin the whole thing, you can read Countdown to Infinite Crisis, in which Dan Didio reveals the irredeemable blackness of his heart. It's not even a bad story, it's just like, why with those characters? DC then tried to make up for it a couple of years later with the Justice League: Generation Lost maxi series, which was alright.

The final coda was DC Retroactive: Justice League of America - the 90s, which was one of the final comics DC put out before New 52/Flashpoint, and is about as perfect a sendoff to those characters and the old DCU in general as you could ask for.

Geoff Johns also did a Booster Gold series, which was kinda fun, but wasn't allowed to use the Ted Kord Blue Beetle.

Excellent! Thank you!

Now I'm absolutely certain that I'm going to love Giffen's Justice League International. You just made it move to pretty much the top of my wishlist.

Booster and Beetle coming back and poking at the previously ironclad New 52 is great.

Grayson Future's End is about the only thing from the whole event worth a shit. Great, great issue. King is a smart dude if he pushed for it.

Gail Simone saying goodbye to Batgirl was good.

Just to add to this, the pages I posted from actually came from the 6 JLA Classified issues the old team did. This was right before Identity Crisis thought it be a good idea to rape and murder Sub Dibny, if I recall correctly. It involves the team going to the neatherrealm and working the Fast Food Restaurant from Hell and there's even a reunion between Guy and Ice, and then Powergirl's breasts show up.

I'd say I've really enjoyed about half of the Future's End gimmick issues. Ones in particular:

Green Arrow
Green Lantern
Grayson
Detective Comics
Batman
Batgirl

Still working my way through some.

Grayson #1 was okay, i was enjoying the last half better when it started to open up with what was going on, but i'm not sold on the series. Issue #2 is next on my reading agenda to see if i drop the book.

If you haven't read Grayson: Future's End, I highly recommend you check that one out too, before making your call. It's by the same creative team and it's really good, imo.

Edit: On the Justice League International talk: Which series had the creepy stalker replacement Ice?

Do you know if that series is collected anywhere?

It's I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League.

Thanks! Looks like that one is unavailable on IST unfortunately, but the used prices aren't bad, so that's good.

Also, if anyone wants to buy some TPBs from this Justice League run for super cheap (and you don't mind TPBs that were published in the early 90s), here's this.
I personally would rather spend a little more to get more recent TPBs (and get them new), but that's a good deal, so I figured I'd share it just in case someone wants it.

I don't know what happened to Starman James Robinson
Surprisingly the shade mini series he did a couple years ago was very good. After his shaky quality I was concerned with him going back to the starman universe but he somehow was able to reconnect to that good quality for a short while.

Oh and the gaming side seems way too amped up to accelerate the big game release life cycle. Destiny isn't even a week old and people want to push all these declarative post release analysis stuff on everything. I don't know if it's all these recent twitter fueled controversies and events in and out of gaming but the internet lately seems to be stuck in turbo mode. Everyone chill. There's no need to rush to judgement on every story, case, or product released. It'll all work itself out in time and with perspective.

Okay, well, as any good artist should do, I'm going to announce now that my four-panel comic about the Official Omnibus Reading Position will be delayed (because I want to read some comics). Probably delayed until tonight.

However, I will show you the current progress.

You guys gonna be blown away by the massive story twist that happens in panel 3.

Anyways, I think I'm gonna read the first volume of The Walking Dead that I got at the library. I'm sort of excited to see what it's like.

Why is he naked on the couch? Do you read your omnibuses naked?

X-Statix? Doom Patrol? Both?

I regularly sit on Amazon considering clicking buy on :

Uncanny X-force
X-Statix
Clermont X-Men
Punisher Max
Oz
Big Damn Sin City

I am also considering that Sandman boxset as its cheap considering what you get. Didn't like the first two volumes though :/

Can't really go wrong with any of those. My personal recommendation is X-Statix though. Is it as cheap on Ebay over there as it is on Ebay in the US? If it is, then that's a no-brainer.

Uncanny X-Force is incredible. You could always just buy the two Complete Collections instead though

Nah its €80 before shipping there.

I forgot Wolverine and the x-men.

Just ordered a bunch of books from Amazon. Lots of stuff I'm excited to read, like All-Star Superman and Scott Pilgrim.

Nice! Scott Pilgrim is one of my all-time favorites. The humor is just perfect. One day I'll splurge on those hardcover color editions...
And All-Star Superman is obviously excellent as well.
What else did you get?

Oof. That's rough.
You should've loaded up on omnibuses when you were in Florida.

I do the exact same thing, but add in Doom Patrol and Brubaker Cap and take out Claremont and Sin City.

Uncanny and Oz seem fit your taste the most, don't force yourself giving in to peer pressure from some retro lover in here :p

I also seem not ready yet to diving to 80-90s piece, only Sandman that I could enjoy thanks to the ageless art/writing.

Btw fuck Uncanny X-Force is amazing, finishing the run about 3 days ago.. I'm so used to think action portion in comic issue is 4 page top at every issue, but this run dedicated like half of page for it, awesome.

I'm also getting the respective second books of The Sandman and Hellboy, the first book of the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel, Extremis, and the first volume of IDW's My Little Pony series.

If I were you I would buy Clermont X-Men or X-Statix first. They are long around and the possiblity, that they are going out of print is very high. And once this happens, the price will rise in insane highs.

Happend to me and the Michelini Iron Man Omnibus, too :(

So I just read the first few issues of The Walking Dead...
Definitely not for me. The dialogue is just so... unnatural? Transparent, maybe? Like, a lot of the dialogue just screams "THIS IS A PLOT POINT." It's almost exactly how it was in the Telltale video game.

I'm also getting the respective second books of The Sandman and Hellboy, the first book of the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel, Extremis, and the first volume of IDW's My Little Pony series.

Sounds like you'll have a lot of good reading to do!

Just finished reading the second issue of Low. Man I am in love with the art in this series. Book is good too, but there's a reason I just got around to reading it now. It's heavy stuff. Perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon however. I'm also almost all caught up on all my comic reading. Just have the Black Science trade and volume 3 of Saga to read and I'll have to buy some new stuff. Or just read something on Marvel Unlimited.

I'm really digging this book so far. I noticed that it takes a long time to read an issue of Low.

Yeah I posted about how much I love the art in Low, it's a beautiful book.

You're gonna really like Black Science

Yes, yes it does. Much longer then average. So much to look at, so much to process. A lot of words. It's a book I'm glad I'm reading monthly as opposed to trade waiting. At least with how the pacing is right now I can read it once a month and be pretty content, just because its such a long read. I'm sure it'll be great in trade form, but some books I feel don't have enough going on to make it worth paying the 3.99 or whatever and then having to wait a month to see what happens. I don't feel that way with Low.

Oh man! How have I never heard anything about Bendis' Scarlet!?
I picked it up at the library because I've heard good things about Bendis' street level stuff in general. I just read the first issue and it's fantastic! The writing is great, the concept is great, and the Maleev art is incredible (this is my first time reading a Maleev-drawn comic; such amazing stuff).
It's a real shame the series is only 7 issues. Is that because it's a miniseries or did it get cancelled/abandoned?

But really, this comic seems awesome so far. I'm so excited to read the rest of it.

Damnit work made me forget to get in touch with the GAFfer that was selling their comics, I'll contact them soon and see if they have some of the books I want.

Anyone see that new Batman & Robin Preview?

SPOILERS:

Batman vs The Heretic? Or possibly Damian? It would have been 5 years since the Robin Rises. And also NEW ROBIN! Duke Thomas, from Zero Year.

So Dicks in Russia, still an agent of Spiral.

Barbara started hitting the gym, has her own squad of Batgirls.

Jason is a killer and hunted by the cops.

And Tim owns a bar.

...Alright...

Ordered the OZ omnibus. I don't know if I will wait for Christmas or just give it as a just because gift.

Take it to Up Up and Away and get it signed! Mine came today and I just went ahead and gave it to my wife 3 month early birthday present for the purpose of getting it signed next month.

I LOVE posts like this one! They always leave me thinking "well, I've got another hundred issues of stuff I want to read! Great! Also, overhwelming!" ;)

Needs some Zurr-en-arrh-style foreshadowing/mindfucking grafitti on the walls man. You have to put those Morrison teachings to good use!

Finally saw Cap Winter Soldier, rented the blu ray, really impressed by a lot of it. Some parts were iffy and i didn't reallllly like the
Three ships, gotta take em all, reminded me of the Matrix sequel, but that's not a huge knock, just that it seemed a bit formulaic

Much better than the first cap for me, which i know a lot of people liked, but was too close to Thor's "doofus stupidity" than an actual movie. Really hate those Thor movies...

I work :( I also work tomorrow during the Bengals game. The regular Sunday guy got tickets to see his Saints play up in Cleveland and me being the nice guy I am volunteered to work for him. I regret everything.
