I hit 20 and I think I'm honest done. Grinding for gear for hours just doesn't sound like fun to level up. And then, you're not even guaranteed to get items when you kill bosses or beat crucibles.

Are you going to complain that Monster Hunter doesn't have a story either? Some of you act like Bungie got away with something here.. it's obviously a design decision. If you don't like it, that's fine. But stop acting like the game is missing something or that Bungie had ill intent.

Obviously not a design decision. They won't even let us skip the cutscenes, it's so obnoxious.

Someone's been playing on normal lol. Try that again on hard or higher and see if that happens :P

This is the daily mission with the Heroic modifier. The same shit happens on LV24 Strike missions.

EDIT: Actually you know what? Fuck it, I'll tell you why you think difficulty affects AI.

When you are higher level, enemies are in "normal" mode. When they are like 2 LVs higher, they just rush you down more. No more cover, just run towards and shoot, because they think they can kill you since they somehow know you are lower levelled. It's the SAME AI that enemies have when you pick a new character and go into the first mission with Heroic modifier. It is NOT good AI, the AI NEVER gets better than that.

You never know what they'll add with expansions. I'd assume they have a lot planned. I'm hoping we get another planet soon.

Shit man, people can have an opinion about the story if they want. Don't see why you're jumping on everyone about it to white knight a video game of all things. Especially since you've admitted you're looking at the story in a completely different way by focusing on the grimoire card/lore aspect than what is in the game. Some people like that, some people don't.

I love the grimoire content, but the fact that you can't access it in-game is a mark on it on top of that the story in-game is pretty bad between the dropped plot threads and lack of agency. Sure, there's worse out there, but I only care what is there as the game stands by itself.

The grind is real, as well as me forgetting this game ever existed...the potential was there but Bungie flew too close to the sun... :(

Actually at level 20 it's considered a heroic version of the mission...

The level 20 version is a breeze at level 22 though. I just went through it today as well. I tried it at a higher difficulty prior to that with friends and the Minotaur was destroying us by itself. He was so much more aggressive. If he wasn't evading our shots and pelting us with his purple cannon then he was teleporting towards us and smashing us into the ground

Weekly Nightfall Strike...

Requires LV28....

Wooooooow

Read my post above. The enemies are just in rage mode, like putting on the Skull in Halo that makes enemies rush more. It's not better AI, it's just them knowing they are higher level and sacrificing their life to hopefully kill you.

After playing the weekly with enemies at the same level I beg to differ. Maybe I'm just getting lucky/unlucky with the A.I for myself.

First game on PS4 I now wish I could return. Casualty of my digital only future. :( Don't see myself putting any more time into it after several hours of play this week.

Listen to yourself. If I was LV18 and you were LV22, would the AI suddenly change? Would find it easier because they are in easy mode, or would you find those LV20 enemies harder before I am in the server?

Think about it man.

If you are low on Health in Halo, they rush forward. What this LV difference is doing is making them rush in all the time if they are higher level.

IMPORTANT EDIIT: Enemy difficulty seems to change with how many people are in the fireteam. Which is why Hard mode when solo at the same level is easy as fuck...

This thread is very long and I'd prefer not to go searching through (it's after midnight and I'm pretty tired), but has this been posted yet? http://www.gamespot.com/articles/destiny-is-a-different-game-after-20-hours-bungie-/1100-6422312/

I really don't see how Destiny is a different game after 20 hours. All you do is replay the same strike missions from the story, but at a higher difficulty, or play Crucible, which I find unbalanced as hell and just simply not fun. I guess he means grinding away looking for armor with light to level up, but it doesn't drop enough and they don't have enough strike missions to keep me interested. You can only kill the same bullet sponge bosses and same pattern minion spawns before you get bored. They really need to add more strike missions for free very soon. This game has a lot of potential, but man is it boring for what they have launched with, and I have no interest in paying for the expansion packs at this time.

EDIT: So, I clicked back on about 2 pages and I found the article. Sorry for re-posting it.

Monster Hunter doesn't need a story to hold up its fantastic and really unchallenged gameplay. There is no other game that does monster hunter the way Monster Hunter does. There are plenty of other games that offer what Destiny does.

I'm doing it for sure.

that's fucking tempting. I was getting real lukewarm on this game but just had a lot of fun playing co-op story missions and pvp with a friend of mine. It's possible that we would have had just as much fun playing any other game together, but that's the one we were doing so for what it's worth I'm willing to hang onto my copy for a while longer.

Oh didn't know they carried that feature over from the halo series. I guess I'll have to test it on a strike that's a higher level than me and redo it afterwards when I exceed it to test your theory out. Still feel the A.I. wasn't as aggressive early on in the game even when they were a higher level than me(I've only been playing with friends primarily the whole way so far)

edit:

looks like your right about A.I being more aggressive if they are a higher level than you

Try it by making a new chr and playing on Hard. I did the whole Earth solo on Hard. AI has never been more aggressive than that.

I am currently soloing the weekly strike atm, it is exactly the same as it was when I started and two people left, except I die a bit faster and the enemies do too.

my favorite part of rereading some of this thread is seeing the baby in the bathwater metaphor completely turned on it's head so many times lol

Bail out now

Really dumb question, but what do people mean by bullet sponges? Does that mean the enemy takes many shots to be put down and without reeling from it?

I've gone all digital, too, and this is definitely the first game I wish I had bought the physical copy so I can trade it in, because of that Gamestop deal. And. I've only ever traded in one game, MW3, ever... Ughhhhhhhhhhh, I'm so disappointed in Bungie for what they have launched with in Destiny.

Bullet-sponges usually just means the enemy has been given boosted health. So yes you're exactly right, more shots to be put down. Usually so many that it's boring. A "bullet-sponger" is almost always a negative term that implies a boring, uncreative fight.

And enemy that takes so long to kill, it gets boring to keep fighting part way through. I mean, the term literally means enemies that just have high HP, but it also implies that the strategy to beat the boss is rather easy, and it's just a time limit.

By bullet sponges people mean that the only mechanic of the fight is that they have a lot of HP. A non- bullet sponge boss example would be a wow raid boss, who will summon things and force you to do certain things, be in certain spots, etc.

Dude, I'll buy you copy for more than that. PM me.

Yea, they don't offer a challenge or compelling encounter, they just take a lot of time to kill. Like long tank and spank bosses in MMO's.

That's a big part of it, though directed more at the bosses than regular enemies. I know some people are still figuring out how Void, Flame, and Arc rounds factor in regards to taking out shields, but it's generally a boss issue. Doesn't help that the bosses are kind of boring in behavior and abilities too that make the fight seem longer than it actually is (which can still be pretty damn long).

Edit: Not sure I understand why people are selling off their copies already. Not to act like part of the white knight parade, but there is stuff coming down the pipe this week. Can also join up with people on GAF (maybe other disappointed folks so you don't get talked down to) and just have fun in the ridiculous nature of the thing.

Or NGB boss, which you can beat in 2mins, but could take an hour perfecting the strategy.

Nothing in Demon's Souls is a damage sponge for example, even if you are SL1 fighting the final boss, because you have to be on your toes the whole fight.

Destiny is just... shoot the legs man... outta ammo... shoot legs.... shoot core... revive buddy... shoot other leg.... ugh fucking die already

You forgot 'deal with spawning mob'

So there were 12 people on the Destiny writing staff, 13 including Joseph Staten? That seems absolutely crazy.

Somebody had to write all those grimoire cards. I find it hilarious that there's a writer dedicated to the tower dialogue...

You forgot 'deal with spawning mob'

It really feels like the extra mobs are just there to force you out of cover, because the bosses can't do that themselves.

haha, the friend I was playing with bought his for $53 after tax from gamestop just today. I'm going to play this game for the next 2 weeks or so and see what the legs are like. I don't know how long I'm going to stay interested, but it's less than a week gone by and I'm feeling like I might be done before the 10/8 deadline for Gamestop. How much fun I have with it at this point is definitely related to my friends' interest and also what content bungie rolls out. I'm not bailing just yet, but it's nice to know there is a parachute for me if I decide to.

You forgot 'deal with spawning mob'

ugh yeah man.... but NGB has this too, it just isn't as repetitive.

MonHan bosses can take a long ass time to beat, but they don't feel "damage spongey" because they have many strategies and reactions. Like different behaviour when low on health etc.

Bob Reed and Karl Schroader did good work. They deserve a promotion with that Grimoire content.

At least that's what I'm taking from Additional Universe Creation.

They cut Joe Staten from the credits, or is he there somewhere? That'd be shitty unless it was his choice.

He said there were 12 on the credits, 13 if you include Staten, who is not in the credits. Hell, if I were him I'd be embarrassed to be put in the credits as a writer for this.

This is what last generation has done to people. 8 years of overrating games has conditioned the masses to think everything deserves an 8 unless it is ass.
I think it's more that people try to compare the game scoring scale to similar things and look at their school grading scale. 80 would be a high C or low B, and 60 would be a D or F. I haven't played anything but the beta, but based on that Destiny deserves better than an F.

Too bad that isnt how the 1-10 scale works.

Nope. You are correct about the academic grading scale, but the tiers are somewhat different.

100 - Perfect
90 - A+
80 - A
70 - B
60 - C
50 - D
... and so on. It does admittedly vary region to region, though.

I think the reviews have been more than fair to Destiny.

"Additional _____" in credits often means a staff member left the project (or the company entirely) before the game went Gold.

Unless they were brought in as contracted work or as consultants, not sure.

Why that stuff isn't in the actual game is beyond me.

It's probably two things. The first being content on web-enabled devices (mobiles, laptops, PCs) encourage Destiny to become a cross-media product. The second is that the game has an app already, and it was probably convenient to add more features to it in an attempt to increase perceived utility.

It'd be nice to have in-game as well, but I'd definitely prefer to read that kind of stuff on a screen that's close to my face. The added bonus of it being on a web-enabled device is that I can read it when I'm not playing the game.
