Apparently not. Datto beat the last boss and only got a shader and some shards.
Guaranteed loot, not guaranteed armour though. In our encounters last night, some got armour pieces while others got Rare Crafting materials.
The shader he got was one of the "Legendary" shaders I believe, and he also got 3x Ascendent Shards. That's still loot.

Right, but armor lock only whilst you're inside it, which means no one can shoot in, and you can't shoot out. So it's a temporary solution to get your shields back after a gunfight. Personally I think the offensive Titan super is much more useful.

It looked cool before, but then I added this shader to it that I didn't know I had and it turned my guardian into this swag monster. I mean seriously, I'd be content with just keeping this look for a long time... Of course with a better bend though. It's hard to imagine that higher level gear will look much better than this imo

Apologies, I assumed he was asking if the bosses dropped guaranteed gear. Shaders and shards are still loot, but obviously less exciting than a gear upgrade.
Right, I've kept my mouth shut about the crucible loot randomness because so far I've felt its been sort of fair. Now I'm gonna break that silence on my part by asking: Is it fair that a random level 24 player joins a rumble match when theres only 2 minutes left and gets rewarded a legendary engram when the games finished ? The guy had like 1 kill and 2 deaths...
Also I suck hard at rumble, any ffa mode in any game can go and sink to that well from the Ring film as far as I'm concerned.

When does the crucible marks reset? I have 100/100. Also, where does it show my crucible rank on the website? Or is it ingame only
-I got to level 20 last night and am confused as to what I should be doing now to continue to level up. Someone said I should be doing a bunch of Strikes and PVP matches hoping to get some equipment with Light in it?
There's tons of ways to get rare gear with Light, a full set of level 20 Rares upgraded will get you to light level 24. You can get those consistently as rewards from the level 24 Strike, and engrams will randomly decode into them as well.
-Is it possible for me to get a Legendary/Exotic loot drop at level 20?
Yes, very rare, and legendary engrams decode into useless shit 95% of the time. Don't get excited if you see a purple ball, you'll set yourself up for sadness.
Upshot, blue engrams can (very rarely) decode into a legendary.
-What do the factions you can join do? Should I join both or none of them?
They transfer all of your normal Vanguard and Crucible reptuation gains into that faction only - only join one if there's no rank 2/3 gear you want from the Vanguard or Crucible vendors.
You can just switch out the class item to change your rep gain back to normal though.
The benefit of joining them (beyond the rewards for hitting rank 3+ with any faction) is a set of fixed stat gear, you can get int/dis, dis/str or int/str from the different factions, plus they all have unique legendary weapons.
-Does basic EXP earned in battles mean nothing to me now, as leveling up is strictly done through picking up Light drops?
You earn a Mote of Light for each 'normal' xp level you gain. They're used as currency for a few things, notably 23 of them can buy you an Exotic Engram from Xur on the weekends (which, much like Legendary engrams, will troll the shit out of you and decode to another classes exotic, enjoy).
-Is doing Strikes from the playlist the same as going to a planet and doing Strikes that way?
No, you can't level up the 'normal' planetary strikes, presumably to keep everyone in the same matchmaking pool rather than farming one specific strike repeatedly.
Any insight to help me understand better would be appreciated. I'm with Ghaleon, none of this makes a lick of sense to me so far since I've gotten to 20.

All that aside, as I posted earlier, the 100% guaranteed, 0 RNG method of gearing up in Legendaries/Exotics is using Vanguard and Crucible Marks and Strange Coins.
Do your pve events for Vanguard marks, do your pvp for Crucible marks, turn in materials for more marks if you need to.
Strange Coins you'll get just by playing the game - they're rewarded for various activities and engrams can decode into them.
Consider drops/strike rewards/pvp rewards to be an added bonus with a chance of getting you extra legendaries/exotics, don't depend on them or you'll burn out and get bitter.
A single weeks worth of marks and coins will get you to light level 26, so you don't need to rely on the RNG to gear up.
I'll take 2 strange coins any day of the week.

How do you setup your ps4? I heard direct connect is not the best way to do it? I have a felling my setup is not correct.

Marks don't "reset", only the weekly 100 mark limit cap is removed every Tuesday.
If you're still showing 100/100 on your Director screen, then you need to log out and back in for the weekly cap reset to take effect.
Yes, do Strikes and Crucible and try to max out your marks every week (100 each). Also continue to try and do all your bounties every day as well since there are exp and rep rewards there.
Yes, once you hit twenty you are eligible to receive Legendary Engram drops.
Each faction has different gear and weapons. Pick one that has something to your liking (check the gear for stats and bonuses you prefer that will match together between weapons and armor).
EXP is still important because you haven't maxed out your subclass abilities yet. And once you max out one subclass you can switch to the other and max that as well if you wish. It is also important for upgrading your armor/gear. Whenever you get new pieces of gear they start at zero for upgrades so EXP will always be viable to upgrade new equipment.
There are extra bonuses from doing Strikes in the playlist.
The game has barely been out so don't get down on yourself if you don't understand everything quite yet. There will be a learning curve until you get a handle on how everything works. Just stick with it!

- Your rank will level up as you equip armor pieces that have "light" characteristics. You will start to fight them dropping all throughout the game just like you would any other armor.
- Yes you can get exotics and legs at level 20 but I find you will find more as you level up. You can get to level 25 with just blue gear. You will need purple (which has more light) to go higher
- Factions offer armor that has different characteristics than regular armor you can purchase from Vanguard or Crucible. Joining a faction will allow you to ONLY earn reputation for that faction, which will help you buy better stuff from them.
- Basic EXP will still level your skills and give you Motte Of Light every once in a while.

You're still not safe from my blade in there, all I need to do is crouch and crack out the super as I turn invisible then jump you, it only takes 3 hits in a shield. It's literally the only way to combat the shield that I've found though.

The only time I feel the irresistible urge to dance is when I win in the crucible by a large margin. I go out of my way to find an enemy and dance in front of them just as time runs out, so all they can do is watch me gloat.
If I have an unused super I activate that first so that I glow while I dance.
lvl 26 strike on Phogoth was ridiculous. We ended up killing him sitting in the back room. We had to kill some adds as they funneled in, and take care of the mob that spawns in the ceiling. We were able to dps the boss in between waves and at the end we didn't get adds for the last 1/4 or 1/3 of his hp bar.
Holy shit, I just realised that with 200 crucible marks I'll be able to a third legendary piece from the New Monarchy vendor, instead of just the two I've bought like I originally calculated.
For some reason, when I added up 65+65+65 I came away with 205, instead of 195 like I should have done. This is a game changer.

Direct connect is just fine if you are near your PS4 *and* the PS4 is connected via a hard-wire to the internet. If you are gaming from another room, then hard-wire the PS4 and connect via your wifi router (leave direct connect turned off on your PS4 remote play settings).
