Is there a way to lower graphical settings lower than what are options in the graphics menu?
My Radeon 6870 can't run this thing at 75 fps with the rift. Too juttery to play. Its really bumming my out.
"How demanding is this game really? I know what the official site says, but like, do you really need a quad core CPU? Seems a bit high."
Quad Core CPUs have been the minimum for relatively medium graphic intensive games for some time now. I definitely don't feel comfortable recommending it to someone on a 2.3ghz dual core processor.
Phinious: Judder in the Rift isn't caused by a weak video card, go read up on it on the official forums, it's a driver/software/configuration issue in the SDK and runtime that they're still working on (you can be running the game at 120+fps and still get judder when you look around). There was also a new runtime and firmware released just a couple of days ago, did you update?
Yes, that would be... VERY NICE of them.I will definitely be picking this game up whenever Oculus decides to ship my rift.

For those in the beta ... not sure if premiums will know more but ... how expansive is this game at this stage of development - right now?
I'm on a cheap Star Citizen package and was considering checking out ED too but for £100 I want to know it has more than what SC has atm, which is just an attack mode on 2 maps and soon a racing mode.
Elite is precisely a billion times further along than Star Citizen. Seriously, isn't not even close.
Elite should be released by the end of the year. If sales are good, at least two major expansions are planned: Planetary landing/exploration and being able to walk around ships.
While many major features are still incoming, Elite's persistent universe is already live. Combat, trade, missions and interstellar travel are all working. VR support is also far ahead of Star Citizen's.
Thank you, sounds good.
Any ideas when the game is expected to release?
That guy is ridiculously good at flying with FA off. He's making a Hauler, of all things, sit up and dance. I can barely keep the ship pointed the right direction with FA off, I only turn it off in short bursts.
"And all the people who backed the at premium beta, which is finishing soon, as part of that they get all the expansions. So there are still benefits to these things."

I can't believe we've allowed the industry to charge us for a beta, and that amount as well. Unreal.
Oh, I know. He makes it look easy... it ain't. lol. I understand what he's doing, the concept and the math and such. It's the actual execution that's a bitch. Just takes practice, I'm sure.
This will be the first major space sim released since 1999. I think we can forgive Frontier for going with crowdfunding.
I haven't read through all 35 pages of the thread, but does anyone know how well this plays with mouse + keyboard for flight? Is it even possible or is a flight stick required? Yes, I'm one of those guys that plays flight sims with the mouse and keyboard. Been doing it since the DOS days.
I'm appalled by this and the amount of $ that's gone into SC.
General exploration will be in the final game. Planetary landings are coming as an expansion or DLC/add-on later.this game should be talked about more. just saw some streams and vids and this game looks absolutely incredible! one thing missing is planetary landing and exploration which i'm not sure if it's in the pipeline.
Doable with a lot of reconfigurations (official forums). Not prefered though, even a 360 gamepad would be better imo. Did you ever play a 6 dof space sim on keyboard+mouse in the past? Then perhaps my opinion is worth shit for someone like you![]()

edit: A new beta with more features should be launching soon but I don't think I've seen a date yet.
End of the year is an overly optimistic estimate, ATM the game has the skeletons but not much meat.
Oh yeah, literally every flight sim/6 DOF game I've played has been with mouse + keyboard EXCEPT for MS Flight Simulator X which I bought a MS Sidewinder for. Not sure where the AC adapter is for it.
I've recently been replaying Tie Fighter through DOSBox and have been using mouse + keyboard just as I did back in the day. Works great for me.
I might look into getting a flight stick and throttle when this comes out. Can anyone recommend a decent flight stick/throttle combo that won't break that bank that would work well with Elite?
This is probably the dumbest question ever but if I pressed the left pedal, expecting to yaw... would the ship rotate to the left or to the right?
-edit-
For some reason both options sound right AND wrong:
If the ship goes left it kind of makes sense since you're using the left pedal... but now your legs are kind of looking away from the direction you're turning, and viceversa.
IRL yaw pedals work like this:
Right pedal goes forward, plane yaws right
It may feel strange at first but you'll get used to it.
But if I buy the Mercenary Edition now, I don't get beta access and get to play right now, do I?
Doesn't sound like it.
Think I'll still wait. I've got plenty of games to hold me over til it releases proper. My willpower is wanning though...

Wow this looks incredible. I REALLY want to play the beta, but I want some sort of permanence to the "work" I do in an mmo... so I'll probably wait till it finally releases.
This, this so much this. Get in, shoot some things, shoot some people, get blown up for dumb reasons now because that way you will know what to expect later. You'll be prepared when it launches
Can't hurt to practice some flying and combat.
