Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

I don't think hype can hurt me. I loved Final Fantasy XIII and that was the most hyped I've ever been. I see its faults now but back then it was just so exciting. Was so hooked. This looks much better already though, tbh, and just hope it'll have a decent length to it.

Whaaat?!

Noooooooooooooooo. Oh my god, you just ruined my day. :(

No one really knows anymore. It's been 9 years and over a year since the last trailer. Don't take it at face value.

One is just people with power, and the other is just the one who determines its recipient. It's not so bad if you say it like that.

It's not really that bad in Type-0 at least. None of the XV trailers have ever mentioned it I don't think either.

Pretty much.

With nomura out the picture I doubt XV will get sequels

I don't think that's how it'll work :P

Am I the only one incredible underwhelmed by the trailer? The combat looks unsatisfying and the car seems to be sliding on the road, it has like no grip.

Actually yeah...the combat was really slow and weighty. I'm hoping you can pick up the pace a lot.

The car was fine. This seem like a very different RPG from the norm. I like the road trip aspect.

I'm surprised they didn't just tack him on as Creative Director in the end.

I really hope he left on his own accord because he is confident enough the team can handle the rest of the game based on his vision and that it was consensual.Kind of like what Famassu said that they just need to reach the finish line and Nomura's done all he could.

Realistically, I think this is unlikely and that he was asked to leave because the CEO was getting impatient about their biggest title.

Its sad, really sad to have something take away from you like that.

It looks alright. Will check it out when its released in a few years.

I think this is a good attitude to have really. FFXIII burned hard...

I kinda feel this way, but it also has to do with the direction of this trailer. E3 2013 trailer was sensational, probably one of the best of the series.

I guess is fine since it was gameplay, unlike the other, but it was closer to some random gameplay than a proper trailer.

All I can say is he left for negative reasons.

8 years is a long time. Is it really impatience at this point, or pragmatism? :P

"Those who see the light of expiring souls." The lights are crystal shards representing souls dying and going through the gate to the land of the dead.

We see this phenomenon in the XIII series and it looks like the stuff the latest art with Nocto has.

I haven't played an FF since 10 (actually FF3 remake on DS). Obviously the game play mechanics have changed a lot. I used to love the turn based system. What's this like? The trailer makes it seem like a typical action game I'm curious about how it plays.

It is a full action RPG.

Why did they announce it in public like that though ? That kinda sucked and was unnecessary.

They could have kept up a facade infront of the fans that Nomura is still "co-director" or "creative director" or anything.

Now it feels like, frankly, he got kicked out.

The silver lining after such a stupidly long development is that they're at least sticking to their guns and making it new gen only. Thank goodness it ain't cross gen.

I don't see this game coming out in Japan before Q4 2015 at the earliest. It's an early 2916 western release at best.

It looks like they'll be playable in the demo. From another thread:

The name "Episode Duscae" is confirmed and is derived from a particular event.
- The playing time will not be the scene of Leviathan but an advanced area of the game.
- The scenario will be a forest / grassland green.
- You will have full control of Noctis and two other heroes.
- The demo will have an average duration similar to that seen with that of FF XIII.
- There is no mention of retail version at the time (limited edition will ?!) but DD, always with date to be determined.

The guy apparently works for Famitsu.
Feeling better now =)

But you see Ignis in the trailer. They said the trailer was for the demo which means the parts of the trailers will be what we get for the demo.

Oh I just thought they might give us some areas from FFXV to run around in but with a set party instead of full access to the members shown in trailers or the final game.

I didn't even hear the trailer was for the demo, though. Do you mean it's footage was taken from the demo or rather that it shows areas we'll see in it?

What's Toriyama's future at SE? Has the guy announced any new projects?

FF16?

Toriyama is in because of Kitase.

I hate to say this but it always felt like he covered for his mistakes.

FFXIII went through hell and started on the PS2 alongside FFXII only to be released in 2010.

Yet Toriyama never got kicked and made two other games.

You knew what he meant.

They probably won't say stupid crap like "My dream is but a fal'Cie's fancy now". There's no indication they will.

Actually, going off the old footage, that's exactly the kind of faux Shakespeare bullshit I would expect.

The casual dialogue/bro ribbing in this trailer was a nice surprise.

The whole thing has me feeling better about Tabatas' "road trip" comments, which I thought sounded aaaaaaaaaawful up to now.

He's well liked, reliable, and has managed to ship a bunch of games in the last generation. There's a lot of vitriol online with regards to his recent products, but he seems to have strong internal support. I'm sure he's working on other projects right now, but S-E is probably careful now not to announce stuff until they have something worthwhile to show. I think how they've handled Type-0 HD is a good example of this. They didn't want to release any footage to the public until they had something attractive to share.

I was just saying yesterday how FFIX made me happy playing it. I'm getting similar vibes. I agree.

Both more hyped and less hyped after seeing this. Graphics and gameplay look pretty nice, but pretty much every single sentence spoken in that trailer was awkward. I hope the party won't be acting like annoying teenagers the whole game through.

People don't realize that inside S-E he is one of the few devs that actually manages to develop and release his games in a timely manner. T.Nomura's depature shows how many troubles run inside this company and Toriyama's not at the core of the problem.

That said I'm sad because I really fear Nomura is next leaving :(

well, famitsu and other Japanese media described today's trailer as "the trailer for the demo" so that is why I am assuming like that.

That's pretty fascinating, I'm now wondering how Kitase feels about Lightning.

I recall seeing Toriyama's name as one of the directors of FFX. Since that game in such
a masterpiece, I figure he should take a similar approach on his next project. Have a
a couple other directors there along with him to minimize his tendency for bullshit.

Edit: Wait a minute, wikipedia says Kitase is the main director of FFX. Why is this guy enabling Toriyama lol

This is true. I don't think he is necessarily a bad director either. X-2 had a lot of triumphs. And he actually has some good ideas with his plot but he needs to stay away from the story/writing otherwise. Guess we will have to wait and see.. hopefully for the better..

I'm curious, does anyone here think this game could end up being one of their favorite Final Fantasy games? Does the setting, characters, etc. from what we know interest you enough? If you do, let me know your favorite Final Fantasy game as well.

I liked all mainline Final Fantasy (except XIII series) plus a few spin-offs like Type-0 and Tactics. Favorite is VI, followed closely by VII.

And I think XV is looking marvellous. The setting is very interesting because it incorporates the contemporary environment found from games like Shadow Hearts and Parasite Eve series with standard fantasy setting.

The all-male party doesn't bother me. In fact, I think it's also a very rare occasion a JRPG party has the audacity to try something different, to tell a story about a small group of male friends going through an adventure with a grand plot and lore of the setting backing up their stories.

Gameplay is feeling like a mix of Kingdom Hearts, Type-0 and Dragon's Dogma. Noctis teleporting in the style of Just Cause 2 makes it sweeter. Last but not least, I'm so bloody excited fighting classic FF monsters in real-time environment. Can't wait to see summon being used, going to be insane.
