Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

I refuse to believe that's in-game

Fucking amazing.

And people did laugh about Lord Nomura.

Hey! They didn't translate the end of the trailer correctly. They were actually apologizing for the long wait.
It should actually be something more like "Sorry to have kept you waiting... almost there..." right? It's a clever, "meta" use of dialogue in which he's clearly either apologizing to Stella/Luna or his dad.

Getting a STRONG Xenoblade Chronicles vibe from this, which is obviously a good thing!

Looks INCREDIBLE!

I'm just wondering, have a lot of places and names been renamed?

Lucis might be called Insomnia now.

Stella might be called Luna now. Altissia seems like it's the new name for Accordo, as well.

The new names actually do sound better. I would welcome the change.

Agreed. I always felt the Latin focus was very hamfisted and pretensions on Nomuras' part.

Like seriously, let's get this as far away from Shakespeare as we can muster.

Damn it, if these guys are really journeying for a chunk of the game to meet Luna/Stella for Noctis' sake then I'll fall in love right there. That sounds like such a fun trip.

They just make it as subtle as possible. Shakespeare is great inspiration.

The roots are still there. Noctis clearly couldn't have met Luna/Stella during his teenage years, there's a reason why he apologizes to have kept her waiting...assuming it's her. Star-cross'd lovers and all.

Lots of cruising and scripted "look over there" bits didn't feel very Final Fantasy to me. I know we've had a cars before, but it's not like it jived with me then either. I guess what "Final Fantasy" is is rather fluid, so the gut-reaction doesn't matter much. I did like the combat looking parts. From the trailer at least, it looked a lot less mash-y than Kingdom Hearts and consorts, which was a concern. The outdoors areas presented themselves very well too. Hoping the development is going a bit quicker now that Nomura got Matsuno'd, but I hope the quality isn't going to suffer from it.

Nomura said it was open in 2010, I would assume it hasn't changed since then.
It's supposedly "open world" like past FFs, not open world like Fallout/Elder Scrolls games. So you'll probably have a pretty linear storypath you'll have to follow with stuff to do on the side in cities & fields and it isn't until after you get an airship you are more free to move around, to return to old places & to perhaps find some areas that weren't available before.

Indeed.

Agh, I can't believe they're winning me over with the "bros" thing.

Dude nothing changed regarding latin focus. All those names are still latin.

I know, but the old names (assuming they really have been changed) were a bit too flowery for my taste.

I do like Latin, for the record. Actually, Squares' use of etymology is one of my favorite things about them.

I'm just trying to figure out how the story stuff we hear in this trailer fits with past information. Somehow it doesn't quite gel with what has been shown before. Seemingly Noctis isn't even in Lucis when the supposed peace talks between Nilfheim and Lucis are going on while he was definitely there in earlier trailers. Could it be that we begin the game with Noctis leaving Lucis to see Luna/Stella, who has asked Noctis to come see her, but that is actually some kind of betrayal and while Noctis (who is supposed to be the protector of the crystal) is away, the Nilfheim army makes their move and then you have to race back to Lucis in a futile attempt to do something to stop it? That would be a bit of a change from how they were seemingly setting up the story earlier, where it seemed that Stella was at the party celebrating the peace treaty and Noctis too at the time of the invasion beginning.
Noctis is not supposed to know Stella until that dinner party where they meet. It honestly looks like the game went back to the drawing board as they fully shifted to next gen development.
I see, never knew that before. As long as the initial vision makes it, that's good. Somehow, from the responses in this thread, I don't think this is the case though.

Well in case of FFXII it would have been much better if that original vision was scrapped to be honest (story-wise).

Insomnia.... doesn't sound better. At least in English it doesn't.

Altissia sounds good(like the name you'd expect in a fantasy RPG).

I'm still wondering if Luna IS Stella.

And that being said, if they DID change all that, why not change some of the heroes names while they're at it. Noctis and Ignis is fine(though I'm not big on "Stupeo Scientia", which sounds scientifically stupid IMO), but Gladiolus(I actually wouldn't mind him just being "Gladio") and Prompto(urgh) could use some name changes. And Cor Leonis is just LOL! It's one of those occasions where I believe, if when the Western localization happens, IF they change the names(not unlike they changed Mash to Sabin or Salamander to Amarant), I'd be totally fine with it.

Wait, holy shit, a release date was announced? How the hell did I have to learn that from fucking Facebook? You're letting me down, GAF / Twitter.

Glasses Guy has some totally fabulous gloves.

Definitely thought this particular shot was CG.

I hope they use one character model for everything(except for CG cutscenes, of course) instead of the FFXIII mess.

That scene and the Stella scene are probably rendered cut-scenes done with higher quality in-game assets and better IQ, just like some cut-scenes in FFXIII. The parts that are more obviously player-controlled don't look quite as clear. You absolutely will not be getting a single character model for everything. :P

What are those floaty blue things btw?

Probably some kind of airship.

Speaking of airships, if they kept the airship controllable, I think it'll probably be like in DQVIII where you control the airship in a miniaturised version of the world and upon landing the game will load you to that specific spot.

Probably some kind of airship.
Ooh that would be sweet. I understand that apparently there will be airships as well as cars.

Question: do you think we'd actually be able to fly them, or will it just be like some kind of fast travel system.

Never played FF except for Dissidia so this is all new to me.

The only entity that has a definite release date pegged on FFXV is www.christianpost.com

I think they will. That's a Nomura-ism that I really am indifferent on.

Insomnia sounds and reads better to me. Three synonyms and all like Altissia.

Moreover, I think it's important to have pronounceable names worldwide. This is gonna be a worldwide game, so market it as such.

goddamn that car looks really fucking stupid. i'd rather drive a porsche panamera than whatever the fuck that is.

edit: the whole trailer was car

All those open, barren environments give me nasty flashbacks of FFXII. I can see the K-pop quartet quickly becoming insufferable company too.

It is gorgeous though. What a feast for the eyes.

I really do think Stella is actually Luna now.

Look at this image.

See the moon-shaped necklace? It'd be too much of a coincidence to have Luna, a character named after the moon, to have that kind of necklace.

From a story standpoint, it makes absolute sense to me. Noctis looks at the moon and it turns into the logo. Now we know that the woman in the logo is tied to the moon.

Having the main heroine named Luna couldn't make more sense.
That's my theory as well, but I just noticed that the moon necklace also has a little star beside the moon, Stella means star so who knows, maybe Luna is a pseudonym Noctis is using to talk about Stella, or perhaps her name changed from Stella Nox Fleuret to Stella Luna Fleuret or something like that.

I thought Lucis was the name of the whole kingdom, maybe Insomnia is just the name of the city/capital. I mean it is part of Noctis' name (Noctis Lucis Caelum) and his father is Regis Lucis Caelum.

Graphics are so good, best looking current gen game so far. Being an action rpg makes this game even better. First Final Fantasy game I'm looking forward to since FF VII.
