DRIVECLUB: 30 minutes of new Beta footage

@Alebelly, Thrustmaster T500 and a Fanatec Elite + clubsports

I bought them for Gran turismo and a little PC sim racing. I used to be really into it back in the day

I just did a search for DriveClub on YouTube and it's insane how many FH2 fanboys there are making hate videos about it.

I didn't pay much mind to those in the DC threads saying MS fanboys are just insecure, but man, I believe it now.

Keep in mind the hate isn't even about gameplay or play styles, it's all about graphics and how much FH2 "kills" DC.

::shakes head::

My favorite part is reading the comments and seeing everyone defend FH2 by saying "Go play it, then talk." However, you KNOW these guys haven't played DC unless they were at E3 or GamesCom. Completely transparent fanboyism.

Sad and funny all at once.

Care to elaborate further? How is this boring in any way? The cars exhibit an incredible sense of speed, the weather effects are sublime, and the handling is geared towards FUN and NOT simulation.

Obviously I'm not the guy you're quoting, and to be fair I don't agree fully that is looks boring... after watching those videos the game looks insane. It really does.

I can't, however, disagree that outside of the visuals Driveclub is very very safe. It's not a truly bad thing, so please don't think I'm trying to shit on the game, but it really is not that ambitious. I know it's been done to death, and I understand that longevity in a racer comes from competing against others for time/score so they don't need to do much more than be a racer, but for a game in 2014 to have such a low level of car customization(It's really non-existant) I don't see it as much more than a really fucking good tech demo... with some social elements to make it a full game. That's just my view.

I don't think it looks boring at all, it looks like a lot of fun. I can understand why people would wonder what else there is to the game, though, because to be fair it's just great looking cars on even better looking tracks. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but in every DC thread people get called a troll, or have someone down their throat just as quick for posting their view on the overall game because they aren't just stroking their member to the visuals like most.

What a crock. It's as much of a racing game as any other racing game...

Opinions differ, clearly.

You can disagree all you like, but for me the game won't hold much replay value because I feel it's bereft of content outside of the graphical department.

Jesus Christ, you've literally done exactly what I said in the last line of my post and I wasn't even trying to shit on the game, merely offering a reason as to why people may share a different level of excitement to others.

You relegated the game to being nothing more than a tech demo because the game doesn't seem ambitious to you. It's just an odd way of looking at things.

Its "bereft" of content?

I just want to know what would make a driving game ambitious. If someone could fill me in. Perhaps comparing it to another driving game. I'm dying to know.

I mean this is obviously not a talking point used by like six people now so I'm sure there is a fruitful discussion to be had.

uh huh

GT7 is going to be a revelation on PS4. PD won't disappoint.
I hope.
I hope you are right, but I was saying the same thing about GT6... And was disappointed.

Fingers crossed PD returns to form and really makes significant changes to the sound and physics engines. I hope for state of the art physical simulation.

I guess not being open world makes it less ambitious. Lol. I never get why people flaunt a bigger car list too. You won't race with all those cars.

Now:

Wish my one was. :(

No wheel? I don't feel so bad now, but I think I might have to seriously consider it. I wonder if others in our group have wheels.

OT, the Norway vid looks absolutely spectacular, seriously, it looks unbelievable, my hype levels were slowly building but that's it now, I'm proper hyped.

Sense of speed looks insane.

Maybe I exaggerated, but that's how I feel. It's a racing game that looks great, I just hoped for more from the first PS4 racer outside of NFS. /shrug Maybe I just want GT7.

Its "bereft" of content?

bereft
bɪˈrɛft/Submit
adjective
1.
deprived of or lacking (something).
"her room was stark and bereft of colour"

Call me a smart-arse, but I think that's kind of fitting if we're talking about how much there is to do in the game.

I just want to know what would make a driving game ambitious. If someone could fill me in. Perhaps comparing it to another driving game. I'm dying to know.

I get that being a mod allows you to be funny, but two exclusive racers releasing in the same week is going to draw comparisons on a gaming forum. Personally, I've been careful to not even mention the other game in either thread this week because it's a touchy subject, I should be allowed to state my thoughts on the game without it becoming a big hoo-ha, though.

I guess not being open world makes it less ambitious. Lol. I never get why people flaunt a bigger car list too. You won't race with all those cars.

It's not about open world/number of cars, but more about what you can do outside of selecting the car and racing. Remember you can't upgrade or tune anything about the cars(from what I understand). The in-race mechanics are very similar across most racers so it's nice to have options like racing lower tier cars vs. higher tier ones and being competitive.

Also, my F5 car garage is currently 137 cars and I've probably driven over 100 of them at least once. I didn't own an Xbox One between January and August this year, so it's perfectly reasonable to expect someone who is really into racing games to own and race a fair portion of large car stable.

Maybe I just want GT7.

lol of course because this is not a sim. it's more like PGR. its goal is a sense of 'immediacy of accessibility' or something like that; skill vs. skill in mastery of the fundamental car mechanics, not having the best parts so time spent playing is rewarded over skill. just buy GT7, christ. Plenty of room for racing games of all types, this one may just not be for you.

Except right in the sentence before this one!

two exclusive racers releasing in the same week is going to draw comparisons on a gaming forum.

you know, the sentence which directly implies the reason you're actually doing this is because another high profile racer releasing in "the same week" is forcing you to draw illogical comparisons?

And you couldn't stop before you made sure to mention more about Forza and how Forza is what you want.

Stop being transparent man. If you're going to play this game, just be upfront. You like what you see of Forza Horizon 2, and you fucking love Forza 5. You wish this game was those games, even though they are completely different types of racing games. It's cool bro.

Racing game is about what you do outside of racing. Next up: FPS is about what you do outside of shooting people.

The good news is that you're currently downloading an update to GT6 that adds a mode that's basically Outrun. :) I'm being serious. Just a few tweaks with you being able to score points for overtakes, jumps, speed zones etc.
Oh damn. Is it free? Is it any good? Is there a thread?

Perfect Shaneus.

Never understood that complaint. Some reviewers too would harp on racing games last gen, not enough busywork to do, or not enough cut scenes or story in a racing game.

Hoo boy, Cancelled, you're going to love pCARS...
No Exp progression? No grinding to get enough money to buy/unlock cars? Everything unlocked from the start? Just pick a car and drive, what's the fun in that?
Racing for the just the sake of racing in a racing game.

That's crazy talk.
/s

edit- Personally, I have more fun in most racers I play when the career is done and everything is unlocked, that's when the racing for fun begin for me. I spent a ton of time just doing custom championships or hotlapping last gen.

Really looking forward to DC for some custom time and weather races, outside the career.

Looks absolutely beautiful...finally something to really show off PS4...

Also, don't get the nonsense about racers and ambitious stuff. Everything I've seen in racing games in like the past 4 years have been done before.

ForzaH open world stuff--Burnout heck, even Mid-night club lol
Drive Club--PGR
Project Cars--GT/Forza

It's not about doing something new, it's just about making a quality game. You rarely see brand new features that have never been done before in a racer. It's a pretty straight-forward genre, best you can do is appeal to different audiences.

But hey, this stuff will die down soon enough, still year one of current gen, everyone has to get the jitters out.

So my PS4 won't be connected online when this game comes out.

A) Do you need to be online for this game to work.

B) Also, since there is a day 1 weather patch, is there anyway I could download this patch on a computer via a website onto a USB, then plug in that USB into my PS4 and install the patch that way.

Thank you.

Personally the only reason im interested in this game
Is I love the motorsrorm games, they are highly underrated. I wanted a ps4 version one but alas this seems to be getting better and better too. I love the fact its not a sim racer so if ps plus version good, I might jump on full game.

Nope you don't need online to work. And there is no day 1 weather patch, it will be released before the end of this year.

I know it's not the whole game but is the PS+ version of the game next month? I ask because my subscription is running out next month and I mightn't resubscribe straight away and I'd like to give it a try.

one of the complaints from first pages is that you don't hear enough sounds from the public... wtf. You cant make this stuff up.

Likewise. I have more fun when there are fewer variables involved other than pure skill. Once you take tuning out of the equation, you boil it down to who can go around track X the fastest in Y car. That's it. No car setups to download, no exploits to get around power values, just you, the car and the road.

It's why I still fire up PGR4, despite having completed the season mode many, many times over.

Can't fucking wait.

Great parallels done, there. I wouldn't have put Horizon with Midnight Club LA (which I fucking *adore*) but it's a bang-on comparison.

Still prefer MCLA, though. Doesn't get anywhere near the amount of credit it deserves.

Let's hope Driveclub leaderboards are implemented correctly and give an incentive for continuous improvement (fast loading times help a lot).

I have hope about it because Rushy was responsible for Motorstorm RC and nailed that part completely. Let's hope....
