DRIVECLUB: 30 minutes of new Beta footage

That's the first time I've seen someone really mess around with the handling. I like it.

After watching a bit more I really hope there's a setting to turn off the penalty for driving offroad for two long (auto slows down your car for a second).

Are there two different types of offroad warnings?
-One that says Penalty and automatically slows you down for a second
-One that counts down 3, 2, 1 - and does what, reset you?

FWIW, the guy complains a lot in this video about the grip being the same when going off road. He also thinks the car shouldn't be drifting that much. Clearly, he's not usually playing arcade racers. He says the handling may be somewhat compared to GT. Also he's one more dude saying it's easy to catch up the first player, but pretty impossible to leave him far behind as the second one. Kind of rubber banding IA, you know. Anyway, he feels there's great fun to have with this game, and he's just blown away by the graphics.

And yes, there are cornering penalties to prevent you taking shortcuts and the off road timer that will set you back on track.

The first one is for corner cutting. The second one, well, I have no idea why it's in there. Reset to track is probably it. With all the negative response, I'm sure we will get some patch to address it.

But that just means AI difficulty ramps up/down based on track position. That's fine for any racer. What is a problem is if the AI drives the car faster than the car could go in order to artificially create the feeling of a thrilling race. That's cheating and unacceptable. Evo has said it isn't in there, so I'm going to go with that for now. But many race enthusiasts have brought it up, so I'm still a little concerned about it.

True, I still like the look of the handling if that makes any sense. It's not realistic and I'm perfectly fine with that. I don't even like GT, Forza, or any sim on PC. I don't really want to lose speed when going offroad anyway, so fine by that as well (penalties will keep me from it anyway hah). Rain and snow will probably just mean a lighter feeling car that's more drifty. Fine.

It looks like that's the introductory race for starting the game for the first time? I would imagine the race is supposed to not be that difficult. The rubberbanding sort of sucks, maybe it's tied to difficulty? Probably not, but who knows.

Not to turn this into a contest, but most Sunset threads are full of exactly those types of posts.

It's not at all exclusive to DC threads and it's frankly bizarre to see this persecution complex when it comes to DC.

It's really not just DC threads. That doesn't make it OK, but feeling like one game is somehow an exception is just a sign of where someone focuses their attention. Someone in threads for any number of other titles could have the same reaction for those respective games, if that was where they let their eyes rest.
LOL

Read my comment again, guys. I didn't say shitposting is exclusive to DC threads. I said that, in my short time here, I haven't noticed it as bad as I have in DC threads. It's not a "persecution complex", lol, it's the truth. If I'm only frequenting a certain amount of exclusive threads, then I can only give an opinion on those I frequent. I'm not saying DC has it the worst out of any exclusive game thread, I'm saying DC has it the worst out of any exclusive game thread that I've seen.

And DC threads really do have a reputation for those kinds of posts. That's also something else that I haven't personally came across in any other thread yet in my time here.

One thing I don't like about Driveclub is that it's almost too good.

Is that live footage gameplay or just one of glimpse of an edited trailer? For some reason the IQ, lighting and fluidity don't look believable to me without editing the footage. Especially the lighting...

It's marketing b-roll. Quite likely that it has better IQ than live gameplay. Other than that, lighting and fluidity should be the same.

Yeah it looked like it. Too good to be true. But if the lighting is the same then they completely nailed overcast lighting it unlike any other game I ever saw.

Is that the case for every game? I remember seeing the Infamous SS b-roll footage and the final game looked the same in terms of IQ.

No. Not every game. But it seems to be the case here. All their trailer footage and marketing has had extra AA. Is it "downsampled"? I haven't a clue. But definitely better IQ. Which is why I've called it "replay quality footage", all along. Still done on the PS4. Still in-engine. Still in realtime. But not the exact same as live gameplay, which is more demanding on the hardware. Very similar to what Forza or GT does for replays and trailers.

It sounds like conjecture doesn't it? I can't say more. Trust me on this one if you are inclined to do so ;)

Now that brings up why there doesn't seem to be a replay mode at launch. I don't know why. May be they haven't ironed out the kinks. May be the tools they use aren't user friendly yet. But I'd be shocked if there isn't a replay mode down the line. It was part of their vision for the game as seen in their concept UI.
