DRIVECLUB: 30 minutes of new Beta footage

and what was your conclusion? what are you trying to determine? how much did it let you explore? was it a lesser game because it didn't meet expectations? was it a better game because it did?

If it was a better game? What? Of course not. I am just curious about how much effort and detail devs put in their game, that's all.
For example in Daytona you wouldn't *ever* need to go to a pit-stop as it wouldn't have any gameplay benefit for you and you would lose a lot of positions and time if you would. But the possibility was there, there were pitlanes. Why not try it just out of curiosity to see how this is implemented?

Really looking forward to this game, been itching for a ps4 racing game. Hoping its a bit on the arcade style. Are you unlocking new cars as you progress? Are cars split up in different classes? Does the ps plus version come out at beginning of October, or on launch day?

It's obvious you used the term "corridor" because of its negative connotations in regards to other genres. But you used it to describe a track racer, hahahahahaahahaaa!

That persecution complex...

It's funny how you complain about being called out when you say something negative, then end your comment by trolling the game.

Tell me....why are you here, exactly? I mean, you've made it clear that this game is most likely not for you, so what is the point of you continuing to drag this thread down?

And you generalize the game is not for me... Perfect. I mentioned a negative point and the game is not for me, this is really entertaining now.
I replied to a post which mentioned the 3 second timer which I thought was annoying when I played DriveClub. So please tell me, where is this wrong?

As far as I remember you unlock cars as you progress, but I think the devs said that cars unlock faster if you're part of a club?

Ah come on Lukas...by that logic, Microsoft must be doing an absolutely sterling job considering how many people come into any Xbox associated threads to shitpost.

Mind you, the 'corridor racer' trolling is obvious. But then again DC's legacy from the start has hardly had a smooth dev cycle has it? The delays, lack of cars etc etc.

Still, I do agree, this whole thread is one massive troll fest.

Where are you seeing this. I take it upon myself to compare regularly and Xbox threads are relatively quiet.

I have a serious question:
Did you go into playing DC without knowing ANYTHING about DC? I mean what you are posting leads me to believe you went into playing DC blind expecting one thing and getting another.
What worries me is the fact that it is possible people go into DC without knowing anything about it despite the fact that there is a ton of information on it...

Looks good but two things: Dat tire squeal is a bit over used and watch this guy constantly tapping left /right to keep straight was annoying and made the driving look a bit unstable control wise but I chalk that up to his skill.

It's really telling how so many people come into DC threads and just shitpost. Evo should be flattered. DC must be doing something very right to rustle so many jimmies.

Now that I think about it has DC even had one decent thread?
Also congrats on member status

Am still waiting for someone to list the innovations that should/can be done in a racer.

Driveclub would be infinitely better if you could chase horses over cliffs, play Sonic fruit machine walls, look at fossils, then end the day driving the tracks backwards and flipping the other cars only to watch them realign behind you and carry on their merry way.

Nope, that's not true in any way. How was quality of the game *ever* adressed instead of your slightly offensive cynicism?

Yep, that digital foundry thread about Forza Horizon 2 is an absolute cesspool.

Serious answer: Of course I heard of DC. I expected an arcade racer with superb graphics and it delivered. I played a few races, tried to find out how the AI is (probably won't not tell to not let the thread drift off further) and got used to the handling.
Then in the end I did a "last" race and wanted to go "exploring" a little bit off the track. You know how people go to look how well the audience is rendered and why they are bitmaps and such things.

The 3 Second timer might be annoying to some people, but many other racing games use a similar way of keeping you on track, some far more frustrating.
3 seconds may be more than long enough...... And in what Evo are trying to achieve - getting the community to race with each other, they may need to implement something that rewards players for driving better. The idea is a great one, even though implementation may not suit everyone.

You know what they say ? when you got haters, it means you're doing something right.

Some of the posts here are butthurtness to a new level !!

Anyway, the game look beyond incredible judging from the videos and knowing Evolution Studios and their track record, i can't wait to play this bad boy ! It looks simply intense and that sense of speed makes it even more amazing. Online will be awesome !

I already pre-ordered the game digitally. I know i will love it !

Yeah... you could of worded what you said completely differently. Plus the game wasn't finish at Gamecom.... so you have to give it a little slack for not having Photo Mode.
So how did the audience look?

Don't say sorry if you are not. Don't put the glory just on me as you were the one who cultivated the name "corridor racer". But again this has nothing to do with the thread anymore as only few of your posts have to do with it. PN me or leave it but I don't think it's of any use to talk to you anymore in this thread which seems to be light on content for a few pages now.

Damn, not only is the game bereft of content, so are the DC threads even! Just cancel the game already.

I'm not the sim guy usually, and I often prefer closed tracks in racers as I tend to accidentally veer off course or sometimes have a rough time keeping one eye on the map while battling for first. This game seems right up my
corridor
alley. The gameplay looks fun and the visuals are stunning.

I don't have a PS4 yet, but I do have PS Plus for PS3 (which is part of the reason I haven't upgraded yet funnily enough). I will be reserving that PS+ edition of DC, so I can take it for a spin myself when I finally cave for a PS4.

I get that, sure. But there are other ways of penalties when going off-track as already said in the other thread.

It's a penalty, something they don't want you to do..... they idea is to stay on track.

I think you may be missing the point of DC, and many, or most other track based games.

It's something when you complain about a penalty in a game.... why not turn it around, like how rewarding it is if can make it without going off and not getting a penalty?

Where did I say I was against penalties at all?

I replied to a post which mentioned the 3 second timer which I thought was annoying when I played DriveClub. So please tell me, where is this wrong?

Didn't say you had anything against penalties... but they are, what they are, a 'Penalty'

I think it involves an Oculus Rift and Flesh Light.

Sweet, I'm half way there.

Have we figured out what next gen gameplay means yet?

Of course, I own a PS4, it's a "next gen" system. The games I play have "gameplay". Nobody even knows what they want when they say that. It's like asking for the next evolution of games (which I think is VR, and most people aren't 'asking' for that in a general sense).

It's the same thing that happens in the Order 1886 threads people are "Concerned."

I never knew about the term "concern trolls" until it was mentioned somewhere in a forum post (here or somewhere else, don't remember), it actually labels a majority of users I always 'wondered' why they would enter gaming threads they obviously had no intention of buying/playing. Not as bad as the "I'll just buy GTAV instead of DC" posts which just make absolutely no sense, but still idiotic.

Yep, sure. Nowadays games even get analyzed at every single pixel using jpg images and inferring quality from these images, I wanted to "explore" the surrounding in my hands-on chance a little bit to see how much detail devs implemented but wasn't allowed to.

This is just an unrealistic expectation that you knew and anybody above 5 years old playing a racing game knew that it wouldn't be possible. Even my 9 year old understands you can't get out of your Kart in Mario Kart and start exploring outside of the track. And to have the developers waste time on stuff outside of the immediate racing area seems like a bad way to spend their time. I'd rather have weather than be able to "explore" the hillside.

Unless you're just talking about general looking around, then it's there, in photomode.

Well, it's Outrun with sim physics. But it's very much like Outrun. They even include an announcer. Here it is if you want to check it out

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjIHe2SJ_Go

It really is a lot of fun.

Edit: The course in the video is the one that comes with the new patch. It's the longest course in GT history.

Started downloading the patch before I left for work this morning. Looking forward to this GT-Outrun. Hopefully it tides me over until Driveclub.

Of course, I never said otherwise. What I said goes for any platform. People shitpost on games they're jealous of, happens all the time. Seems to happen a lot more in PS exclusive threads, though. The Forza Horizon 2 demo thread is heaven compared to any DC thread.

Ah, now references to kids and ages, great. We are close to a "bingo".
Why shouldn't I expect something 5 metres off the track? The world doesn't end there and that's pretty close to the track, don't you think? Why not being curious how well textures hold up if you are not racing at 100 mph? Why not look how the trees are made? Don't pretend that there wasn't ever any talk about how trees are rendered in racing games.
I didn't want to drive up a hill hundreds of metres away from the track if you thought this was my intention.

I did think that was your intention since open world racers have been mentioned. Just use photo mode, or replay mode with camera changes. You can't fault the game for sticking to its racing ruleset while in a race.

I guess this solves your problem!

Where did I mention other racers? And of course I can say when something bothers me with a game (well, demo that was), who wants to forbid me? Btw, I am quite sure there was no "photo mode"...

Looks good no question about that, but the gameplay is what`s going to make me decide if i stay with ps+ edition or buy the full game.

I'm confused, and this is (probably) a stupid arguement, but 5 Metres... not exactly exploring is it?

I'm also confused.... why play a racing game when it looks good, and drives well and worry about if textures (5 Metres of track) are holding up well...

This is when the timer starts so the game doesn't want you to do even this. But you are right, 5 metres is not exploring. Achievement unlocked.

I still don't understand what Code thinks we are suppose to be exploring... I mean, the track is there, you can drive on it, feather the throttle, figure out the apex, shave seconds... are we racing or are we having a picnic in a cornfield.... I like racing.

As do I and that's why I did some races. Both things aren't mutually exclusive.

Why cannot we not have a picnic as we race?!?! Why must EVO limit us to either picnicing or racing!??! WHY NOT BOTH!?!?!

This corridor racing features upsets the cookie monster within me!

I don't agree. The thread about the article comparing FH2 to PGR was full of posts declaring Driveclub as the heir to PGRs arcade racer throne.

Both Driveclub and FH2 cheerleaders are as bad as each other.

Ehm, because I am technically interested? What's the deal with every digital foundry thread then?

the hook is the social stuff. In Motorstorm RC all you did was race tiny RC cars around little arenas. But everything you did was constantly fed off information about your friends times and then beating them etc.

So if they get the social stuff done right it could be anything but dull

I'm not sure.... or even what game DC is, must have been a suprise to find other cars on the road!

Are you interested in a conversation or not? Totally ignoring my other posts to... well, you have your opinion so why should I even bother.
