Nvidia GTX 980/970 3DMark Scores Leaked- from Videocardz.com

Memory is gonna be a big problem next year, if you are in the same position as me with a pair of 680 with only 2GB.

That is true, 4 gigs of memory is a huge argument for the new cards. The trend of the newest "next gen" games (DR3, Watch Dogs) hitting 2GB easily as of late is there to stay. Even 4gb is not really that much when you think about it.

really? Racing games are (alongside fast paced competitive shooters) the most input latency sensitive genre out there.
Moment to moment feedback is so important. You also only get a few frames of time to correct your steering in a racing sim, and then have to recorrect several more times in the next second.
Having extra lag on that just shuts down the learning curve and automatically lowers the skill ceiling you can reach.
Not to mention the effect it has on the feel of the controls.

The only games I can still play with vsync are turn based games and rts games, the mouse controls in rts still feels like shit but it doesn't affect my ability to play or enjoy the game mechanics at least.
It really isn't as limiting as you might think and I don't really drive any better with it off(I consider myself reasonably good as well). Its only minutely noticeable to me. Tearing, on the other hand, is extremely difficult to deal with. What seems to be most important to me is a smooth image. Tearing ruins that and actually makes it more difficult to drive at the limits, cuz you're constantly dealing with a bunch of mess on the screen.

This is just my view. Some other sim racer might not agree, but I can deal with vsync ok. Cant deal with tearing.

God damn I need Gsync in my life

Maybe i will get something like the 960. Would be a nice upgrade for my 560TI but it doesnt make sense to buy a better card now if i buy a high end PC in one year for VR :D

game24.nvidia.com

Starts at like 6 PST or something.

Edit: Beaten like a rented mule.

Gonna be fun. Hopefully the new cards will be out in store by next week or something. I was thinking of waiting to do a full upgrade on my system before buying one (by the end of the year, basically when this and Windows 9 comes out), but yeah haha...

because it is crazy. I can't figure out the purpose of that side fan.
Idk, mess with the airflow coming from the top?:p Make more noise with that dinky little fan?:p

Functionality was clearly not the goal of that design...
They have the spikes and shit cover part of the fans and obstruct airflow (as well as create more turbulence which probably results in even more noise)

I mean it's called ichill for god's sake

It takes in cool air from the case to help circulate air inside the heat sink.

What I can't tell is if this card is a double slot or triple slot design. I think it's double, but the size of the cooler makes it look like a triple.

It's funny seeing the people that think the placebo effect of them noticing Vsync latency outside of extreme cases like Dead Space is worse than an actual eye catching artifact of tearing. Stuttering with Vsync enabled does suck though, and any dev that actually allows it in their game are incompetent fools that need to take a step back and smack themselves with a piece of shit for being a piece of shit. :D

That's great and all but can you tell us how you really feel?

That is how I really feel. Developers who don't care that their game has Vsync stuttering piss me off and need to fuck off or actually give a shit.

It literally took me weeks of constant emails to the Sleeping Dogs developers before they took it seriously and saw that there was a problem and fixed it. If you play Sleeping Dogs on PC with an Nvidia card, you literally have my bitching to thank!

The brand is Inno 3D. It's a European AIB I believe.
For reference ones, it doesn't matter. They're all the same thing.

The brands, in terms of everything outside of their Halo products (like EVGA Classified or ASUS Matrix) the major difference is in the RMA policy and quality of their non-reference coolers.

Gigabyte, ASUS, EVGA, and MSI all have the best warranty policies and all have great non-reference coolers.

Not a placebo effect at all. Especially in a twitch shooter. I pretty much only play competitive online games these days so I would rather tear than lag.

BF4 is the worst offender in recent memory. It is completely unplayable with vsync enabled.

async. Timewarp support for VR? The same VR Gear (edit: Gear VR was the real name, sry ^^) has, or?

Mass Effect 3 is another offender, totally different game with v-sync off(made the MP playable), shame many people probably never experienced it cause of no in-game option to disable it.

BF4 is another extreme case, I also play MP with Vsync off. Lo and behold, it's another EA game with horrible mouse lag, go figure. The vast majority of games, especially those games with a controller, the input lag you get from Vsync is negligible.

Almost forgot about Titanfall. Not sure how that kind of vsync lag made it into a shipped game.

Gsync is really the best of both worlds. I don't have to deal with lag, stutter, or tearing anymore.

I think Dead Space 1's PC port still wins for worst vsync of all time.

The funny thing was people trying to defend it as 'survival horror should be hard to control'. The not-so-funny thing was how many never thought to turn it off and assumed the game was broken.

anyone who played with the built in vsync was an idiot.

if you wanted vsync and you forced it on in your drivers (and then played with a pad like you should have been doing anyway) twas a just fine experience.

So what kind of news and game announcements are we expecting from the event?
What I am thinking:

- Homeworld Remastered (first official showing)
- Final Fantasy XV coming to PC
- New VR game announcement
- Boss Key game announcement (Cliffy B)

Other News:
- PC gaming resurgence stats
- Sneak peak at new tech in Direct X12
- GTX980/970 announcements
- Gameworks demonstrations (for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Assassin's Creed Unity, Call of Duty: Advance Warfare and Project Cars)
- A hardware announcement from Alienware and/or Razer
- An update on Steam Machines (Valve/Nvidia partnership)
- New TegraK1 devices! (and games that utilize it)
- New G-Sync monitors! (IPS, 4K)
- Partnership news with Ubisoft
- Oculus Rift news

I hoped Nvidia would jump on the VR train asap, so that looks great. VR SLI was too good an idea to not happen, interested in what the other stuff is.

VR SLI gets me wet. I was worried I'd be stuck at single card performance with the 980 (and it's successors). Now I feel a lot better about SLIing this card.

That grass slide looks promising, if those cubes in it can flatten and bend it dynamically as the picture suggests. Interactive and highly dense grass that interacts with the environment in a believable way would be really really cool.

oh my lord, this VR stuff is making me flip.

I'd definitely go in for SLI on CV1 if nVidia can promise it'll be a good experience. I don't do SLI right now due to support concerns and microstutter concerns but I figure if a dev can support VR they can make sure to support SLI.

Didn't Ubisoft make a comment way back about the ps4/xbone versions of FC4 being just as pretty as the PC version?

Edit:ah banned site i guess, anyway a quick quote "So even out of the box, even day one, when we just stuck the code on the new consoles, we were able to dial it all the way up. So as a console player you’re already getting by far the best version we can ship."

it was just there to appease the fanboys. it is obvious that the PC version always scales higher.

I guess but to come out and say it so directly is pretty rare.
