Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

Pretty cool comparison from when the game was announced and now. Images are a little blurry but you can get the idea I think. (Thanks Gamingbolt)

I feel sorry for the people working on this thing. So much time, effort and work utterly wasted. :lol It'll be funny if it comes out in 2016, first game that celebrates its own 10 year anniversary on its day of release.

Not open world, but linked large zones akin to FFXII

Just trying to keep everyone's expectations in check. It will probably still feel massive, but yea, likely some loading areas/screens

Any confirmation on this?

But yeah I think that's a very likely scenario. Given that it's two console generations removed from FFXII and probably balanced around vehicular travel though, I imagine the linked zones will be much, much larger in such a case.

Which Final Fantasy game was shown at E3 2014?
nvm, it was E3 2013. Yeah, that was the one that impressed me. It was mostly a CG trailer but it had action sequences and a 'boss battle'. I thought it looked incredible. Perhaps I'll check out this trailer again in Gamesyde 1080p instead of relying on YT.

Kagari mentioned it.

This TGS trailer didn't scream 'next-gen' to me like the E3 trailer did. It looked like a slightly more pretty X (Wii U).

One thing that might be confusing is that there were two videos from E3.

One was a pre-rendered (using game assets, aiming for final-ish quality) target trailer shown in the conference itself, whereas there was a second battle gameplay footage trailer that was the actual game as it was at that time.

This is a notable upgrade from that battle gameplay footage trailer. There are some ups and downs compared to the target trailer. For example the target trailer had super high antialiasing whereas this has none.

There have been some trade offs visually. The lighting and rendering have been greatly improved especially in the skin and hair shader department. That said the resolution seems to have been decreased quite a bit so there is aliasing like crazy.

The E3 2013 trailer was running on a high end PC while the TGS 2014 trailer was probably a PS4 so there will naturally be some cutbacks. That said I think the improvements out weigh the lower resolution, and if we can convince Square to bring FFXV to PC then the resolution problem instantly goes out the window.(if you have a PC that can handle it that is)

I hope it gets released dual language. It honestly looks pretty interesting to me...with the exception of them driving around in a car. That feels like a misfire to me.

Did someone make a thread about the enemy comparisons between FFXV and older games?
Not yet, but I'm sure it would be very welcome. I love how monster designs from FFV are showing up. Not so coincidentally, that's when Nomura first started working as a monster designer, right?

Sigh, he was really sincere when he made that comment about FFXV generating a strong nostalgia for the older series.

I'd imagine internally they refer to development time from when it changed to XV from Versus, treating it as a different game, so it'd be what, four years iirc?

So if you look at it that way, it's not actually that bad, but of course, no one will ever forget Versus development.

Of course I don't know if any of this is true.

You can't really blame people for not being aware of this though. I think it's reasonable to expect that the gameplay you're watching is the actual quality of the game. Unfortunately, it isn't always the case.

Really? Come on.

It's enough to make a grown man cry. But not this man! Get back in there, tear!

I approach this trailer like mid series Agent Scully; "I want to believe."

Trailer looked pretty good, except that aliasing on that bomb car.

It's more like a Japanese male escort service look.

Those guys definitely look like the billboards outside of the male host clubs in Japan. The billboards usually have rows of the guy's faces who will sit down and drink with you. They look exactly like that!

Uh I don't know who to take seriously here. Are you guys actually impressed by the graphics here? Looks really substandard.

Technically nothing too great, but the character models are incredible and it seems to be using Luminous.

Art style goes a long, long way though. Accordo/Altissia will look incredible.

Seriously, I still have my problems with the game (especially the boyband look, as others mentioned, but I guess we just have to live with that), but I really appreciate that Sqeenix actually put out a railer that showed the game as it is. Wrinkles and all. And they have at least another year to polish it up.

Right now I'm actually kinda excited for the game. Not "I'll pay 50 bucks for a PSP HD port just for the demo" excited, but excited nonetheless.

EDIT: And compared to the E³ 2013 footage it's already a big step up graphically.

This provokes nothing out of me other than "yep, that sure is Square Enix".

Weird, weird company these days. No idea.

These kind of reactions confirm to me that SE is on the right track.

If it ever became pedestrian and predictable, the magic is dead.

lol you must have me confused for some pretentious person.
People complained about all black -> i pointed out that it was a motif, a basic literary device where depth is relative -> you come out of nowhere and tell me that symbolism is supposed to be deeper.

I'm not understanding this criticism at all. Every one in the kingdom of Lucis wears black... and how is it that you ignored that Stella always wears white? did you not learn about motifs and symbolism in english class?
^ This is quite pretentious, as it's a way to try to excuse any criticism of the character design. Which is quite samey. The notion of Noctis and Stella wearing opposite colors and having opposite names lacks any subtlety at all isn't an invalid criticism just because we don't know how "deep" the themes are.

While the lighting has changed considerably compared to the 2011 trailer (the tech reflected looks great even at this stage), I still prefer the saturation and filter(s) from the PS3 version/trailer. It could be a filter they're applying to mute the colors since the transition to the PS4, but as I said I didn't mind the lighting/shaders in the old one either.

Edit: The older images look excellent both as still shots and in motion to me.

There are noticeable improvements to the overall lighting, character shaders and models. E3 2013 XV trailer just looked more fantastical and scripted instead of just some combat in an open field.

Minus the obvious bullshot quality aa, the gameplay trailer and even the e3 trailer look like hot garbage.

Luminous Engine delivers.

The people saying last year's showing looked better graphically are crazy. Ya'll are just mixing up graphics with a more aesthetically pleasing environment.

The skin shaders, hair rendering and textures, character geometry, and overall lighting are a huge step up in the recent footage.

I like the "road trip" nature of the game, I always felt that RPGs were the "road trip movies" of video games - on the way to a destination, getting into all sorts of crazy stuff here and there. I'm hoping the game will be good for the sake of the genre and the Japanese console marketplace.
