Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

Wait....What?

They are probably trying to complete the actual game first before they optimize resolution and AA, its still rough. But the in-development footage we have right now is not 1080p. It is sub fullHD. It even looks 720p without any proper AA in there.

I hope the PS4 version eventually gets to 1080p and SMAA.

Oh, sub fullHD, when someone says sub HD I think below 720p.
That explains the aliasing everywhere, especially if it's being upscaled to 1080p in the trailers.

Are you just looking or did you pixel count?

For the Yōko Shimomura fans in here: there is an awesome mini-docu video series from the Red Bull Music Academy about early 8-16bit videogame music and its influence on pop-culture and on Episode 3 Shimomura and Hitoshi Sakimoto are featured.
Check it out:

Thank you SO much for this! Yoko Shimomura is so adorable. I'm so excited for what she comes up with for FFXV!

So how would everyone here rate the trailer? What did you like/not like? Did it make you more or less excited? Curious to hear people's thoughts.

Facebook is trolling lol

I would have been happy with the brooding style that they showed previously, but showing a lighthearted aspect really piqued my interest. I think it shows maturity in the story if there's a progression from lighthearted to the dark stuff we see in the later trailers. There's no indication that won't happen since this trailer is from early on in the game.

Won't put a number on it.

I hope Nomura's departure won't kill the game.

Because the art direction is utter trash :/

I'm sorry that the art direction is more tame and not in your face like in FFXIII.

Frankly I much prefer the organic look they have go for here. It reminds me of FFXII, with a more monotonous, down to earth tone.

Sometimes people just don't know how to appreciate simplicity.

I imagine the reason some people are doubting if some of this footage is real time is because we haven't actually seen a whole lot of PS4/Xbox One-only games since the systems launched. Most games this year have been cross-gen. We're only just barely starting to get an idea of what actual next-gen graphics look like. I also think XV is probably going to have real time cut scenes where the character models look slightly better than the gameplay character models.

As for people saying the E3 2013 footage looks more impressive, a major difference is the environments they're in. The E3 2013 footage shows off enclosed urban environments and indoor areas. Not to mention the sequences in that trailer look like they might be heavily scripted. Almost all the new TGS footage looks like it's in a very large sandbox-ish environment. I think proper games we might want to compare these visuals to would be Infamous Second Son, Witcher 3, or Arkham Knight.

Lol. You hold on to your beliefs sentaii!!!! The only thing in this world that matters is that you hold on to your beliefs in life! Believe in yourself.

/anime philosophy

No but seriously, I'm more than a decade past dismissing anything because I consider it too immature. I read my nephew childrens book sometimes and often seem to enjoy them more than he does. I'm just saying that I feel I've 'moved on' from FF, where most people would put all the blame on SE saying that "they just don't make them like they used to".

I think C.S. Lewis had a great quote about criticising maturity.

I think a lot of poeple have a hard time simply accepting that over time their favorite series simply moved on from their interest. that's why you get an FF topic half of it is full of people proudly declaring that the first 7 were the best things ever.

Yasumi Matsuno left FFXII and SE and the game fell hard because of it. What if this happens again?

I don't really care about productivity if it means sacrificing a once in a lifetime game.

On the other hand, if they don't solve their productivity issues, you won't get many Final Fantasy games IN your lifetime.

All kidding asside, it's difficult to speculate what impact it will have on the game. FF XII's development was a troubled one from the get go, if some reports are to be believed. FF XV hasn't been a walk in the park either.

At least we can rest easy with the fact that this was a calculated decision, unlike the sudden and unexpected (for Square) departure of Matsuno. Nomura is still at the company as well.

Im sure they will transition seamlessly.

This decision seems to be one that aims for better productivity and efficiency with their development process. Something that was ahuge hindrence last gen. Now they have Tabata directing XV, with the groundwork layed out by Nomura, while he now focuses on bringing Kingdom Hearts 3 up to speed. Add to that FF XVI, which according to Verendus it's already in development without even being announced and you'll see how Square seems to have started this gen with the right mentality.

Yeah, I mean...that is precisely a logical conclusion that makes sense.

Does no one else here feel the same way, or are doomsday claims just too hard to let go?

Don't need to count. The direct-feed shots from SE show it's not full 1080p. The jaggies, the artifacts, the blurriness, same artifacts as Star Ocean 4's sub 720p shots.

Final-Fantasy-XV_2014_09-17-14_002.jpg

Definitely sub 1080. Here's hoping FFXIII PC sales convince Square to bring FFXV to PC where it belongs.

The gamersyde video is in 1080p.

The video is rendered at that, not the internal resolution of the game.

I don't want to put a number on it. Or expect anything. I've been waiting for versus(now 15) since it was announced. I was a sophmore in highschool and hyping over the release of KH2 at the time, thinking all PS3 games were gonna be in CG level quality realtime cause of all the hype back then. After so long you kind of have to reset your expectations versus the end product in of itself, or that's what i did.

What we saw in this trailer was encouraging, and has me optimistic that the final product will be a good game. That's all i can really hope for. I just hope they clean up the visual flaws and make it polished.

The per pixel stepping on the water tower in the background makes me believe otherwise.

It's definitely a step down from the E3 trailer a year ago. But being realistic, how in the hell were they going to beat dat Leviathan.

Considering the footage is from early in the game and mostly from the demo they will release, the trailer has grown on me and my hype levels are still very high.

Again, are those Imps in the trailer?!

Step down in what regards? I find the flashy effects and particles to have been stepped down as well as the tempo of the combat (if could really just be a different guy on the controller) but otherwise the game looks even better than before, for me at least.

There is a monster climbing mechanism in this game, kinda like Dragon's Dogma. Probablygonna rely on that when dealing with monster that size.

Those were good ol' goblins in the cave. I must say, they really hit the atmosphere of it. The sound emitted from those creature in the dark, echo-y cavern is creepy in the great way.

9/10, loved every second of it. The huge monsters, the bromance, the non-linear levels, the combat, the music, i couldn't go to sleep after watching it i was so excited.

Pros -
Incredible music
New character designs
The overall visual of the game
Hints of the plot
"Almost there"

Cons -
Not enough hints of the plot
Didn't give much of an idea of how combat works

Basically I'm giddy like a boy band fan girl after watching this trailer.

this i miss the more simple design in past FFs, recent ones have just too much stuff and kinda brings down the game for it

Views are sky rocketing.

A million in a day.Perhaps revealing it at TGS was a good idea.It didn't get drowned by any other trailers and the space was clear for attention.

The actual content of the trailer was really cool, I thought. I love the banter between the characters.

The fact that it was a basically cobbled together sequences of the group either in the car talking, or fighting in a field was pretty lame. Seemed like the same scenes repeated but with different backdrops.

Combat looked great and Shimomura's music is, as expected, delightful.

It definitely made me more excited to see more of the world that the game takes place in, but all in all, it was a pretty poorly put together trailer.

What are the odds that the game will actually have two controllable parties, Noctis and his group and Stella's, and you actually play the game from both their perspectives at either certain points or the ability to choose from the beginning?

It would be a great E3 2015 reveal if this was the case, and the next trailer focused on Stella and her own crew.

Basically this. 10/10 for me. Would like to know more about the characters though.

saving these for TGS was one of the smartest things square enix have done in a long time. it hurt us, but in the end its a win win for all. The start to fall would have been ho hum without it.

I'm happy at the thought of playing the game relatively soon more than anything lol

To answer your question, I thought the trailer communicated very well what Final Fantasy XV will be about and what gaming experiences the user will enjoy; however, though it may not be the right terminology, it seems less colorful or vibrant than previous iterations - not sure how I feel about that.

Looking forward to playing the game, it will be mine :D

Don't care if it's not 1080p, the game looks astounding in motion even at this early stage. It's a long time coming and trailer in its entirety took me back to my high school days when I got PS3 for Fabula Nova Crystalis. While things have changed massively, nostalgia hit me hard in the gut. A lot of hope is riding on this game especially after the massive disappointment that was FFXIII.

This has gained enormous hype and despite what happened with Destiny, it seems hope springs eternal.

Also, is the portion with Luna (or is it Stella) in real time (in engine) or CG?

And, that incredible soundtrack.

Definitely sub 1080. Here's hoping FFXIII PC sales convince Square to bring FFXV to PC where it belongs.

Oh..
