Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

I'm still waiting for someone to somehow rip the music from the XV trailer and post it online. I want to listen to it without all the dialogue/sound effects! Such an awesome song.

someone updated their avatar~ :O

I think Kagari is superbly hyped but at the same time is consciously driving up all her caution and mindfulness of disappointment at once.

Its like an extreme situation of dissonance and a strange mix of sheer excitement and worry :P

Really? between that and the dinosaurs, I thought it was kinda obvious. Coincidence? Maybe. But still similar.

What? You are aware that the open worlds were revealed by Nomura before Xenoblade was even announced? And Final Fantasy XIII had giant creatures roaming the open area before Xenoblade was released.

Final Fantasy XV is just following that.

nice analysis. this was Nomura's first Adamantoise, right? i'd say it's pretty awesome

Nomura's first Adamantoise was in FFV, I believe.

Most of it, sure. Just don't expect Skyrim or other western sandbox, open world RPG. What FFXV most likely would provide is a reasonably large "closed open" world with semi-linear direction towards to the next story progression point, but filled with a lot of side paths and freedom to go off-road and explore. What I meant by "closed open" is that the field area appears to be very open-ended, but are still bounded by the plot, so that you wouldn't be able to jump to the final area in the game with high level mobs at the start of the game.
Kinda like the old games, just tweaked in scale. I don't think any FF game gave you full rein of exploring the continent you start on. You have some freedom to walk around it, but it's confined into the area of where you are in the story, and you move from area to area as the story progresses, only gaining full access later in the game when you find vehicles that allow such access. People look at old FF games' world maps and quickly write it off as being too big to accomplish, but forget you only explore one area of a continent at a time. And even with vehicles that allow a broader range of access, that's only while you are IN the vehicle. When you exit, you are still confined to the immediate area of exploration.

The yellow areas are each "zone" of exploration that you, basically, can only explore one at a time in full. You have no access to other "zones" besides that specific zone until you progress the story or have access to an airship(but prior to the airship, once you leave one zone, you cannot return to it). There are also smaller land pieces I didn't highlight that you can technically access via airship, but they have no relevance to the story(hence you'd never access them unless you went airship cruising just for kicks).

That FF XIV scare must have done something. No more announcing games that aren't getting released in at least 18 months, pls.

There should be a rule that once you plan on announcing a game you HAVE to be willing to release a constant flow(month by month) of information(press kits, character info) until release. If you don't got a good chunk of the game completed, DON'T ANNOUNCE IT! Wait until development is at a suitable state, THEN announce it.

Shipped. Sold to consumers is much less.

Shipped copies are eventually sold, at whatever price point retailers can get rid of them.

You don't see many brand new copies of FFXIII sitting on shelves these days, do you? Publishers reporting shipped numbers has been standard forever. It's only recently that Sony has decided to brag about sell-through with PS4 to make Microsoft look worse.

Now can everyone stop with that stupid argument.

I'm just not going to expect much and hopefully be pleasantly surprised when I actually play through the final game. WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN.

I am sure FFXV will blossom into a respectable open world at least at the end of the game as per FF tradition.

But I wouldn't be surprised if this is a game that offers a large margin of freedom.

Heck the XIII sequels did.why wouldn't this.

and then toriyama appears and we get lightning plastered everywhere somehow in FFXV!

YOU KNOW YOUR THINKING IT KAGARI AS A WORST CASE SCENARIO!!!

I just said they're similar; I'm not dissecting or fighting this. It was the first thing I thought of when watching the boys on their cross-countryside tour.

No doubt it will offer a large margin of freedom but i hope it won't be bland open world. Trailer showed us we can travel to big area but it feels empty beside the enemies

You won't get fooled.I really think this game will be very good. And we'll learn that sooner than later with the Demo.

I really think getting hype is warranted here. They won't hold back with this game. The trailers show far more than the XIII trailers ever let on.

Every showing was really solid. No need to think it will be even close to being bad.

Take a leap of faith. This one's always been the more promising one ever since 2006.

Both games are doing incredibly well on Amazon. I'm surprised Typo-0 is #25 on best sellers considering it's coming out in March.

I didn't expect the X1 versions to be so low though.
Typo-0: #2,445
FFXV: #5,356
You do realize that PS4 has a larger install base and a large majority of FF fans are on PS3/4 right? Even with the 360's install base advantage the PS3 versions of the XIII titles doubled the 360 ones in sales.
Yeah, I know where the fanbase is and the hardware difference in the region, but I expected the X1 versions to at least be within the #500-1,000 ranges.

yeah keep lying to yourself meanwhile all of us will be true to ourselves and get carried away by the hype train! we regret nothing!!!! ;p

If you like JRPGs including FF you know where to be.

Not sure if this confirms anything, but the Type 0 pamphlet shows the adamantoise section and a battle scene from the trailer. Possibly both will be included in the demo.

it's already been confirmed that the trailer was recorded from whats in the demo

I've found some old gifs of FFvsXIII build, and just made a comparison with the FFXV new trailer... I have to say that besides now its much better, before they were doing a pretty good job anyway!! =o

I'm loving this gameplay though! Remember me so much Kingdom Hearts, what is, imo, a very good thing!

For what it's worth, jrpg demos aren't the best representation of the final product.

Due to the time frame in which this demo is released and the unannounced release date of the product, my guess would be that Square is mainly using it to gauge how to tweak gameplay mechanics and if some story-related things/dialogue need adjusting based on feedback from the demo.

That being said, I have a lot of faith in the OST of this game though. Very good music indeed.

Since the game is marketed around "roadtrip", I'm sure exploration and freedom is a big part of the game. This means there'll be a lot of sight seeing (such as those beautiful astral shards which may have some gameplay use and horde of rhinos chilling around), uncovering secret locations, seeking hidden treasure chests, fighting rare monsters for unique loot, etc.

I like how the hits now have weight.

There's more blood than there was in the E3 2013 build (wasn't even blood, really), so that's a good sign in staying faithful to the original premise.

AI is terribad.

Kinda reminds me of a combination of many different Adamantoise designs. It's new(very much FFXV's original take on the classic enemy, unlike Garula and the Goblins), but it's tusks' double edges might be slightly inspired by Amano's Adamantoise design, and it's "rhino horn" seems to be inspired by FFXI's Adamantoise variant. Interestingly enough, Amano's Adamantoise design is the only one with those kinds of shaped tusks and FFXI's variant type is the only Adamantoise with a rhino-like horn.

Here you go, horns AND tusks!

If they pull this off(and right now, what we seen is impressive as hell), I hope they continue this onward into the series. No more hallway simulators. This looks(from what we've seen) more of how the FF series should be, exploration-wise.

Despite this incredible delay, people want it more than ever. That's some brand power.
You do realise clicking on a YouTube video out of interest doesn't actually translate to sales, right?

Like, there's no doubt this will do fine but to argue that the brand hasn't been damaged is delusio-

*sees username*

Oh that's why.

Nomura said they edited the old trailer at slow speed so we can see character's movement.
The new trailer seems slow to me or they changed combat speed.
And i still don't have a clue how we can use magics, it seems we don't have MP bar so i think we will use them for a number of times

I don't know how long SE will stick with consoles, but they seem to getting the hang of HD large worlds now with FFXIV ARR, FFXV, DQ Heroes (?) etc. FFXVI if developed from the ground up for PS4 with Luminous should be quite something.

i really miss controlling an airship, i wonder if we'll have that in XV, i know people have been saying to think of XII in regards to world map, but really, flying on an airship and seeing a town in the distance and landing near it would be fantastic

Yeah, I really hope they keep the airship travel in tact. It was said to be there back in 2011, nobody among us knows if that's still the case.

But Tabata's Type-0 have both airship and world map. Hopefully he stick to the original vision.

So youre telling me that these animations of FFvsXIII build were slowed down? Damn.. it was too fast then. I think that the actual combat speed of this new build seems pretty good though! I mean, the guys are using really big and heavy swords (except for Noctis sword on the second part, but he moves faster to attack there).

I am very confident in this game.Yes its been through a lot but the result will be admirable.

So much ambition regarding world building and character building.

This will be a game that translates a full 3D FF world in earnest. The trailers easily communicate that.

Apart from the new battle system, this game really calls back to classic FF in spirit.

It seems like this trailer has surpassed the stuff from the Versus XIII trailers IMO.
