Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

Pretty sure that was Nomura. He has the naming sensibilities of a pretentious high schooler.
Gotta appeal to the core demographic, I suppose.

Well, I'm not above admitting that I ate shit like that up when I was that age as well. I thought Japanese RPGs were the deepest, most philosophical blow-your-mind kind of material in the 90s.

are people seriously complaining about the names now?

whats the freaking problem if they used latin, would it be better if he just used an english word for whatever

I don't mind it, but it's true that Nomura does tend to get overboard and sometimes come across as pretentious when it comes to his naming schemes. It's not uncommon for Japanese writers across the board when they're utilising western mythos and language though.

Those with actual understanding of the language may perceive it as being relatively ignorant though, especially if it's poorly used. But FF has always been that way, for better and worse. They love their high fantasy approach to names and mythos.

Terra, Ventus, Roxas, etc
Mmm, those don't seem pretentious to me. Just... pragmatic and/or naive?

I mean, I don't think he's all "I'll add 'x' to all these names so it sounds deep" and more like "I need names... quick what's 'wind' in another language? Okay that sounds good enough."

They're silly, but FF has always been a bit quirky, from oversized weaponry to wacky clothing to overly obvious naming. Squall/Cloud/Lightning/Terra/Garnet all point to something, and quite obviously too. Noctis really isn't any diff. I actually really dig Ignis' s name, if you look at first names only. Gladiolus is a handsome name too.

So yeah, this game looks amazing. But at the same time, I don't really understand how it's supposed to work. Not like the story or anything. Just all the different character interactions. How does it all work? When are partners going to be jumping over me and things like that? How does the car work? Is the AI always driving it? The animations and the AI look too good to be true. How exactly does it work when one partner picks you up when you're weak, then another one takes care of an enemy charging at you? How many enemies does that work with? Is it the same animation every time?

I expect the game to be good, but at the same time... We'll see.

Uhhhh, b-but Organization XIII: Xemnas, Xigbar, Xaldin, Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion, Saïx, Axel, Demyx, Luxord, Marluxia, Xion & Xehanort.

for me as well.. when I talk about that game with friends, we still call it Versus.

Oddly enough, most of the people I know talking about this aren't the ones who play a lot of games. Sure, we're talking about it too, but a lot of the "friends who play games but don't play games" are hyped. I'm 23 and most of my friends are between my ages and 30 and so many of them are into this trailer.

That being said, none of them realize that Versus never happened and that's what XV is. It's been so long that they completely forgot about it or just assumed it came out and they didn't hear about it.

I don't know, i guess it's triggered by some stats or condition (ex. Healt below X%, Knockdown) , but then it could either be something very complex (based on some kind of skills or parameters) or something very "extra" (just a random event without any "RPG depth" behind it).
But in any case it seems something very difficult to implement, especially if its the first case, there are so many variables: party members (behaviours seems to reflect their personality ex: Prompto shoots people in the face, Ignis helps to stand up, Gladiolus "tanks" the enemy etc.), which weapon are they holding (if we replace Prompto's guns with swords does it still works?), which enemy are they facing (i guess the mammuth is the only one you could bring down like that) etc.
It's something really fascinating, and they sure put a lot of effort in developing those animations, so it's weird to think it's something so random.

I don't really care about their full names, but Ignis' middle name amuses me... Stupeo...

I really like the name Noctis for some reason. Love how it sounds. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be playing as him 90% of the time even when we have the option to play as other characters. He seems to be the quick/nimble one of the bunch and I prefer that in these types of games. (Ventus > Terra/Aqua although Aqua was pretty fast, too).

Organisation XIII makes perfect sense in the naming scheme though. One may think it's 'pretentious', but it's a nice way of creating a completely new name with a consistent theme linking back to the original person.

At a certain point, one kind of needs to embrace a little bit of cheesiness. Not everything needs to be overtly 'mature' and cannot have any sort of elements that can been seen as 'edgy' like 'hurrr adding X to original name for the Nobody of that person is soo childish.' That's just a terrible mindset to have.

didnt Nomura say that the gameplay when it concerned to fighting would seem strange just by looking at it but when people actually played it, that they would understand how it works

Since when did all these trolls flock to Gaf? It's like they scour the Internet, looking for new home after new home.

At some point, you just have to learn to take their posts as pinch of salt.

Off topic, Square keep pumping them Dragon Quest out and keeping Togashi away from writing new episodes. :(

I got to sit down on a pc and watch this trailer.

Not having seen it I will still refuse to anticipate thie game more than half-heartedly, in the end it might come out 2115, for all I know.

This looks really, really awesome. I hope that this and MGSV will deliver, because they both look like they have a potential to revive Japanese gaming/development to a certain extent.

I wonder what's the story with this game. It looks like the FF world had been devoid of monsters for a while and all of a sudden they invade this new modern setting. Looks cool and shows promise......just wish I knew more.

Just found these on tumblr, are they from a magazine? If not, it should help people get to know the cast, lol.

I already feel my hate for Prompto will probably reach Zell levels. Hope I can outcast him from my party.

The names in XV are mostly fine. Sure the last names are stupid, but Noctis, Prompto and Ignis are pretty normal sounding

Then there's Gladiolus

I'm liking what I've seen of him, usually not a fan of a FF's traditional character design but he's fine looking and appears to play well.

In the case where any of them dies, Ignis and Gladiolus are more likely to die than Prompto.

Because you know, it's cool for the more level-headed, mature guys in the team to die so that the immature idiot grows up a bit. :p

Your words makes sense hahah
Also I am gonna assume the lack of Cor means he will probably die.

Cor :
- notably stronger than the rest of the cast
- mentor/super bodyguard figure

His existence is a walking death flag to be killed by one of the named antagonist to establish the threat.

There were so many Prompto's in my year at school we had to call them by their surnames to avoid confusion.

I actually like the stupid names, everything about the aesthetics are so ostentatious, I like that the names match that.

I’m generally fine with crazy names. It's a different planet, with different culture and history. Considering that, and passing it through a Japanese culture filter will not result in Bob, Mary, or John.
