Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

Wow, at that IN DEVELOPEMENT. Can't even announce a year.

Given that reliable folks have penned a possibility that the game could be released in winter next year in Japan, the game's better off not announcing any dates at this stage.

A 2015 release, even for Japan only, would be a major PR win for Square, but the game cannot afford to have another delay attached to it, even if it's just 3-6 months.

Look at how they're pretty much making fun of themselves (on how long it's taken) with the new trailer, Square knows damn well that the game needs to ship on the promised date/year.

I’m generally fine with crazy names. It's a different planet, with different culture and history.
Considering that, and passing it through a Japanese culture filter will not result in Biggs, Wedge, or ..er... Jessie.

Fixed and ...It better!

Im hoping, the environments are as open as they look.
IF so it looks like FF is trying to reach the bar Xenoblade has raised.

I'll repeat this again the reason why is that the game is 1.5 years away from releasing and their sole focus right now is promoting type-0 and that game serves as a bridge to FFXV. Think about it this way Type-0 got announced in august and it's releasing in March2015 just a few months later, I'm pretty sure most of Gaf expected type-0 to be released fall2015.

FFXV will be unveiled at e3-2015 and released some months later that seems to be the SE strategy now announce games that are releasing in a 6 to 7 months window. SE doing smart things is scary.

People would lose their shit if they committed to a release and then delay it, it's a smart idea.

The funny thing is, Nomura said he was surprised that Toriyama named Lightning after a weather phenomenon, because he (Nomura) thought this recurring naming pattern in the series was getting boring and he thought the FFXIII team would abandon it.

I don't know if it has been reported, probably yes, but Square Enix Blog regarding the Nomura's departure gives a different impressions of the facts. Perhaps is true he moved of his own accord toward Kh3 to focus on that. Afterall he is used to oversee multiple projects and perhaps FF15 took too much time already away from him.

I'm hoping in that 10 years, the main gameplay/scenario has been set in stone, so now all they need to do is port/remaster it to the PS4.
You don't necessarily need the main director for that.

The idea of a road trip frame story, sort of a play on Journey to the West perhaps, is pretty interesting, although I'm not sure it has anything to do with FF thematically or structurally. It's tough to realize there's no appetite at Square, or perhaps in the marketplace, for what I'd consider a classic, operatic high-fantasy approach.

Also Square should do a mobile fashion/hair styling game, just for the sheer hilarity of the reaction on the web.

Or if you want look deeper KH3 is also co-directed. Nomura to get removed mid development to work on another project!?

Then he should have stayed with this game because fuck Kingdom Hearts.

We Tabata going co-director we've basically witnessed a master to disciple move, so maybe that was to be expected. I'm just saying maybe is not the same case of Tanaka and similar people, but really a decision for moving Nomura into his precedent role, the one in which he follows multiple projects!

Considering Kagari said Nomura left for 'negative reasons' I highly doubt it was a peachy passing of the torch.

Yes! He worked on the game for 8 years but decided to leave so that some other competent director may finish the work he started! Nomura the good guy.

Adventure JRPGs in general are pretty much all roadtrips (with reasons!). A plot device pulls a bunch of people together travelling from place to place, each place with its own exciting stories that culminate in one grand finale.

And FF's structures and themes? Let's list down a few structures from previous FFs we know of... "A resistance group fighting against evil corporation in a dystopian futuristic city find themselves entangled with deep shit involving a girl and a crazy man." "A school that trains mercenaries, and a group of mercs who partake in missions getting involved in a large war conflict and beneath that conflict, something sinister unravels." "A thief meets a princess with a crazy mother, and meets eccentric people along the way in their journey."

Final Fantasy always had a diverse set of foundation stories that betray itself at first glance, but always manage to remain true to the Final Fantasy identity once all is said and done.

She didn't specify, and probably for good reason. He's still at the company, so I doubt he wants to start a controversy with the story. He'll talk when he wants. But seeing how loyal he is to SE, I'm not sure he ever will

For all we know his vision/over ambition was stalling the project and he was changing and scrapping elements on the fly, hence his indecisive nature could be a factor. I do believe the story and everything is fleshed out, I think it was combat related maybe he couldn't implement or it was very hard to balance.

Note I'm talking out my ass but it's a plausible theory.

Who else wants to see a dual-audio western release? I mean, space isn't a problem anymore with BD disks. The full japanese dub could easily fit in.

they said they tested with lightning returns..i wonder how many people used it?
i really wanted X HD to have it, but it didnt..

i really hope this does. i shudder to think the actors they'll get for this game.

Lighting returns had it so it's quite possible, im already use to JP VA so hopefully they deliver... If only SE eng va was on par with MGSV caliber ;_;

Even if its a DLC I need it. FF13 was absolutely terrible dubbed imo (possibly part of the reason I disliked Snow so much).

To me, english dubs are anticlimactic when used on japanese anime/games. I always watch anime on their original dubs with english subs, but unfortunately most JP game companies don't offer the option for the original audio on their games, mostly due to disk space limitations. This is not an issue anymore.

type-0 is getting dual VA

omg yes!!

with it being an RPG, massive world, lots of voice.. is it really possible that space is not an issue? :( i fear it might

I'm still in love with the idea that FFXV's premise of "An enemy nation invades in order to steal the crystal, the source of all natural power" is ripped straight out of Final Fantasy IV.
