Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

Let's not post ancient Nomura quotes... they might not hold much water anymore. :<

oh look, skeptical Kagari is back...

BELIEVE! :/

to be fair, th game is large open spaces now. maybe it will ring true, except for cliffsides and such that the laws of physics say you cant climb by just walking

Considering that you apparently can't just teleport wherever the hell you wish to ( limited by blue toggle and enemies ), nor do you have the ability to climb/double jump into higher terrain, you are pretty much limited by a certain level of invisible wall.

It's a rational compromise. I always thought the whole 'sword teleport' mechanic was an idea that was cool on paper, but difficult on implementation without any sort of limitation of what can be done with it.

Not mine.

That car is so massive. They have so much room.

I know there is one for Japan.

That's what I thought, thanks. Wonder if they will extend that deal for other territories, mainly NA and EU markets. Do you know the extent of the deal or still in planning phases?

You can count on a PS4 hardware bundle for sure.
As for the other regions, well, SE would be smart to get that extra promotion bump for sure.

I think the first act of the game will be about what we're seeing in this trailer-- this crew traveling together in the car with pit stops where you'll fight and explore mixed with some intercutting scenes revealing bigger things going on. I can almost see some Star Wars-esque "wipes" where it will cut to for example something like that shot with the blue-glowing vessels flying into the capital (not too different than how FFXII did it) and once they reach Altissia they'll run into Luna and there'll likely be some kind of breaking-out chase sequence as a character thought to be good will be bad and give chase to the characters, so then they'll be out on the run again like during the first part of the game. At that point the game will actually open up (after the 20 hour tutorial lol) and there'll be airships and chocobos and shit. And hopefully a huge world map at our mercy.

I'm also digging the bit where one of them says "better find a place to hole up" followed by the cavern stuff. Really gives it this huge adventure feel. I thought FFXIII had it, but the scope here seems to be pretty incredible.

I think it's better to be more modest in our expectations lol...I'm already treating the area in that short demo as an area in itself and not as part of a larger seamless space. It looks like a large arena not unlike those found in Type-0. Only difference is that it's much larger. Expecting load times to keep my expectations in check.

Asia will probably get a bundle if Japan gets one. Final Fantasies are popular here. We're getting the Dragon Quest Heroes bundle here. Won't be surprised if we get that game localised and FFXV localised and see XV getting the same release date as Japan.

I want to see some prompto gameplay next time,i wonder if you can play the whole game using him only and turn the game into final fantasy shooter.

And btw did they mention what weapon Cor use?

See how would this work with the supposed command system. I doubt you will still be able to aim the reticule. Is Crisis Core's battle system (althought this one looks more complicated) an apt comparison?

I just want to know how it plays/play it.

If character control switching is still in, Prompto should still be able to aim the reticule, because that is his primary advantage. We just don't know if it's still a feature. I really hope it still is.

Yep :)

I've been hearing all about it from friends in Tokyo. THere's been a big push to hire western talent. Lots of new faces in the monthly meet ups etc

Mostly chatter from friends and also industry podcasts like the one Score Studios puts out. You can hear all about the western talent and situation at From studios on one of their recent podcasts. There's also some content from an ex Naughty Dog employee who talks about how it blows her mind she is working in FFXV. But that's all just tip of the iceberg stuff.

By the way, I found the podcast you were talking about. Thanks for the info!

Part of me is skeptical we'll still get character switching (with major differences in gameplay mechanics depending on the weapon) as originally envisioned by Nomura in the 2011 trailer.

It wasn't even teased in the 2013 target render, where it could've easily been done... but it wasn't.

Hope I'm wrong though.

They showed the player controlling Prompto in the E3 trailer.

In the 2013 trailer there is a split sec shot showing prompto aiming his gun.

Is there any chance we'll get the demo as a standalone purchase on day one?
I'm interested in Type-0 too, but 70€ is too much for a remaster, i'd rather buy it used.
And the demo is my #1 priority.

Maybe a bit later so that they can make more people buy Type-0 at full price^^

I don't know. I don't think they would sell a demo. Well we know they are selling the demo with Type-0, or Type-0 with the demo if you wish, but I don't think they would charge you only for the demo, that would probably be too much lol.

I guess there will be people selling the demo code on eBay though.

I don't know, Ground Zeroes set a precedent lol.
And iirc the wording for the GI article was something along the line of "Some of you will be lucky to play the demo for free by purchasing T0HD", so maybe there's a chance.

Now that I've snapped back into reality, how worrying is it that after giving them a bit more than a year to get ready after their failed reveal from E3 last year there's:

- No sign of any English voice acting for FFXV.
- No release window for Japan
- No indication that music production has already started. (TGS trailer theme was recorded especially for the trailer by VGO on August 26) Stage demo used the really old battle music from years ago once the combat kicks in.
- Limited amount of areas and enemies shown in the trailer/gameplay demo.
- Still very tight-lipped and general confusion about the Episode Duscae statements among Square Japan and Europe.

I expected them to be more... ready at TGS, but it still seems they have a lot of work to do.

They've said that they moved away from the KH battle system, but in the trailer it pretty much looked the same to me. Have they said what exactly has changed?

Zero reason to be worried. This is TGS, not E3.

- No release window for Japan

From historical release trends of FF games, it'll either hit winter 2015, or it's 2016. With the game being more than a year away, announcing a release window now without being certain about that timing is a dangerous PR situation.

No clue.

- Limited amount of areas and enemies shown in the trailer/gameplay demo.

No reason to be worried. It's a demo. Furthermore, the trailer isn't meant to showcase a lot of locations, it's just to show the tone and give a look into the new gameplay + overworld car approach. Do you feel worried that MGSV trailers before this never showed anything other than Afghanistan?

There's no real confusion. Tabata is aiming for simultaneous release, but isn't commiting to it, so they're basically avoiding a situation where they have to delay the demo by not commiting to a release period. Nobody wants to promise something they have to retract later. Especially not for a game with FFXV's history.

I expected them to be more... ready at TGS, but it still seems they have a lot of work to do.

This isn't any FFXV information blow-out or anything, you know. The game's more than a year away, and the historical marketing approach to FF is to make a mild introduction, but trickle out information slowly with the occasional major blowouts once or twice before release.

The game will very likely be released in the next fiscal year, both in Japan and in the west.

Music production is not a problem I think. Hamauzu needed just one year to finish XIII's soundtrack and Yoko Shimomura probably worked on the game for several years. I wouldn't consider the music a problem at all.

It's gonna be really weird hearing Noctis speak in English, I'm way too used to his Japanese voice now after watching the trailers a gazillion times.

I honestly wouldn't mind if there wasn't an English dub to save costs, but that would alienate some players. Japanese voice cast is amazing enough.

Yeah, alot of americans are really bad about not wanting to read subtitles. We have to remake alot of european movies just so the actors speak english. (Girl with the dragon tatoo, let me in, etc etc). I

Would you guys be down for British voices for the game, a la Xenoblade Chronicles? I'm not sure, but it might fit well with the royal families and all.

The Xenoblade dub was fantastic, but I'm not sure how I feel about it for FFXV.

I just really hope they're trying to implement a dynamic sound-design and not just having a song loop for the whole overworld. Like fading different instrument tracks in and out depending on where you are or what time it is, plus a battle percussion track when enemies approach, etc. That's something that they need to work on if they want to bring it on a modern game design level, IMO.

Yes please, a british dub would be glorious.

FFXIII's TGS trailer had an English version before, even an English HUD, but yeah looking at all things that'll probably be for next year's TGS, I just found it a bit odd with a demo so close. That GameInformer leak put my hopes too high.

Yes but that was for TGS '09, 7 months before the western release. First english trailer was E3 2009 iirc.
We're 15-17 months away from XV.

What gameinformer leak?

Did FFXIII's demo have English dub? Because my expectations for the XV demo is that it'll be Japanese dub even for the demo. It's not like we're going to see any story cutscenes or anything major on that demo.

Probably. But not sure if necessary. Did you see XIII sales?

I think the point is for a platform holder to play a major part and aggressively push FFXV like how MS pushed Titanfall/Sony pushed Destiny.

Considering that the brand has presumably weakened in the past few years due to less-than-inspiring releases related to the brand, the extra marketing and more eyeballs being given to Final Fantasy at the major press conferences will not hurt one bit.

They've said that they moved away from the KH battle system, but in the trailer it pretty much looked the same to me. Have they said what exactly has changed?

Well, it's mainly the command menu that has changed. In KH you could select commands from the lower left menu, but in XV the lower left menu shows a log of what actions are being performed rather than a command selection.

You can also try watching this if it helps you understand it better - http://youtu.be/4LKRP32UlGw

The Xenoblade dub was fantastic, but I'm not sure how I feel about it for FFXV.

I'd also want to see a dub that incorporated British actors, perhaps more along the lines of Smith and Reeder's choice of accents in the XII localisation. But regardless of who they get, it's all for nothing without competent voice direction and script translation; which I'm not sure can be expected from SE.

If character control switching is still in, Prompto should still be able to aim the reticule, because that is his primary advantage. We just don't know if it's still a feature. I really hope it still is.

I can see shooting still being in as a unique ability that functions like Noctis' warp ability. Instead of warping, the reticule appears on targets that can be shot at, be it enemies or things that explode, like the way it did in the 2011 trailer.

It's hard to tell the scale of the kind of changes without being privy to the hidden-from-us button options and the scope of what they do.

At a fundamental level, we do know that evasion has some degree of automation.

They've already made it clear that the TGS trailer was made up of content primarily focused on what we'll be playing in Episode Duscae. That's the reason why there was a limited amount of areas and enemies shown.
