Its amazing how little this game cares about what you do while actually playing. Ive been AFKing at the loot cave and I do just as well as if I were shooting into it. I could do the same in rumble pit if I didn't care about my stats. Who the hell came up with this loot system? All its missing is microtransactions and I'd crown the worst I've ever been a part of.

You and others, are free to dislike it. However the system isn't a 'problem'. MMO's use this exact same system. You run a dungeon hoping for a specific drop and most of the time you don't get it. At the same time, running the dungeon gives you a currency that, when enough are earned, allow you to progress your characters gear.

This isn't a straight loot game. It has the RNG element of it but it's systems are much more aligned with MMORPGs. The sooner everyone realizes this and either accepts it or moves on, the better.

The difference is, in most MMO's bosses have a loot table, and the currency is more of a supplement.

There are no loot tables in Destiny, in fact bosses dont seem to drop anything. In WoW for instance, you get 3 bosses or more in a dungeon, thats 3 shots at loot you can use.

In Destiny, you get one or two things at the end of a strike, and most of the time its under your level and useless.

I hate the goddamned big maps in this game. Make them short and sweet. If I get any of the big maps I usually live since they take too long and are generally boring skirmishes.

still rampant complaining about RNG eh... bleh. might be time for me to do something

I think it'll be here to stay until people get enough gear to complete the content they want to.

I'm particularly salty today because I wasn't able to experience the raid for the first time with my friends last night. We had all farmed the cave prior, and despite them getting a few legendaries I couldn't manage to snag anything my class could use. I was only a few light away from getting to dive in to it with them, but because my dice didn't roll the right way I didn't get to experience the Vault. They got to the last boss and everything, and I was left out because my drops weren't as good as theirs. Keep in mind that I've amassed more play time than them all.

I wouldn't mind the RNG loot system if I could have played the raid at level 25, but I was not happy with the idea of being locked out of content with my friends because of such randomness. It was beyond frustrating.

Farming for random loot drops *hoping* for something good is for bitches. That's not what this game is about.

Yours,

Frank

In the time people waste farming, they could've gotten vanguard/crucible marks the regular way and buy their shit. Farming really is a waste of time. I've gotten NOTHING of value in the time I've wasted farming. Any good drop I've gotten has just been luck of the draw while playing the game properly. I've bought most of my legendary and exotic shit legit. The only lucky drops I got was an exotic weapon from an engram and a legendary helmet from another engram.

Just noticed today that at the end of the mission The Buried City, Rasputin says something in his Russian robot voice when you activate the machine at the end. Is there anyone who speaks Russian who knows what he says?

Farming blows, and you aren't locked out of the raid at 25. As long as one person in the party is 26 you can go in.

edit: Since I didn't provide any actually helpful information in this response

Just rename "Crucible" to "Shotgun" and be done with it.

Today has been especially terrible. I've actually just given up halfway through rounds of Control because I'll be leading a team that has no chance to win at all. It's very frustrating playing today.

Just equip a fusion rifle and make the shotgun useless.

Looking for 4 more people to attempt the raid tonight on PS4 around 8 pacific time. It's okay if it's your first time, as it is my first time as well. I'm a lvl 26 Hunter, and we got a level 27 Warlock coming so far.

Cap your marks and don't play the game until next week, guys. This is the true endgame.

I had all of my vanguard and crucible marks for the week, and the weekend merchant had nothing I could use at the time. At that point the best way to get gear is to go straight for the farming. I wish diving into high-end strikes would have a higher chance of dropping better gear, because I think those are more fun, but my best chance at getting to raid with them was in that mystical cave.

And yeah, the raid does unlock at 25, you're right. But you really need to be level 26 or above to make progress in it (As indicated by the level marker on the tooltip), gear and level makes a significant difference in performance if you're under the recommended value. I tried the weekly strike at 21 and had the floor wiped with my face, but at 22 we cleared it out as easy as pie.

Edit: Didn't see your edit, I'll give that a read and see if there's anything in there that could help me out, thanks! I love the game, but last night was a real bummer.

I say your logic is terrible and your response is an appeal to how popular something is? It doesn't then make it good, if you prefer that wording. What I'm interested in is the fact that my $60 was every bit as good as yours and I can't imagine all the totally valid criticism being relegated into the "not your type of interest" camp. I don't think Bungie was trying to appeal ever-dwindling MMO crowd -- not that they recognize good gameplay.

"Good" as you're using it, is subjective and not at all a reasonable barometer for a game's design. I personally don't find MOBA's to be very "good" games but hundreds of thousands of people (if not more) disagree. So the game type is proven as viable regardless of how I feel about it.

Your $60 is the same as mine, sure. That doesn't mean that you're going to progress in the game at the same rate that I do. The game has concrete progression that you earn no matter what. The RNG aspects are simply chances to progress faster. Luck is luck. Now if some players could influence their luck to be higher, then you'd have a point but that's not the case here. This really is just about some people not liking RNG. And that's fine. However that doesn't make RNG bad.

My point is other MMOs give you "good gear" from running repeatable PVE content while Destiny really doesn't for running Strikes, as outside of RNG engrams the loot pool is just level 20 blues. If Nightfall was repeatable and completable at level 24, then I wouldn't have as much of an issue with the current gear progression since you now have a consistent route of gear acquisition that isn't tied to a weekly currency or engram RNG and more importantly, is actually doable in the previous tier of gear.

Basically I take issue with this level gap in content from 24 to 26/28 where players have to rely on weekly marks or engrams, neither of which really require a full set of upgraded blues.

But it does. Level 20 blues, when fully upgraded, award Level 24 which makes it easier to do the various content that awards the Rep and Marks. Along the way, there's also the chance at better gear dropping no matter what you choose to spend your time doing. Regular MMORPG's don't provide that chance and even the guaranteed loot doesn't always progress you. And in most, the gear that drops in the dungeons doesn't actually make you raid ready but it does make running the PvE content easier in future runs. In both Destiny and your Typical MMORPG, the primary progression made into the first Tier of gear to make you raid ready is earned through Reputation and Currency.

In only a couple of hours farming, I've had 8 legendary engrams drop. Most were garbage but three turned into exotic weapons/helmets. In that time I wouldn't have even been able to afford a single legendary. Farming is worth it.

if instead of farming the cave you would have raised your rep and got marks and bought some legendaries + an exotic from xur, you would have been in the raid with them.

I beat the last boss of the raid today. One guy got a thunderlord and a vision of confluence scout rifle with fire damage. I shit you not. Another guy got the playstation exclusive auto rifle. I just got 3 shards and white shader like most everyone else.

Just equip a fusion rifle and make the shotgun useless.

That's absolutely horrendous. I know that the fusion rifle is a shotgun counterpart but again... that's two weapons that actually seem to be of any use in the Crucible. It's such a damn, shitty mess and I'm realizing this the longer I play.

I've been farming for a good while today. Probably decrypted 40 Rares and have yet to score a legendary. Sadly, haven't seen a single Legendary engram either.

I was maxed out for the vanguard marks and crucible marks for the week.

I am level 3 reputation with the Future War Cult.

Excluding reps and marks, like say you've already capped for the week, do you still think it's worthwhile to keep running level 24 Strikes for gear?

I don't know, I feel this argument won't go anywhere between us because I find viewing the level 24 Strike playlist as "a whole new tier of content that you need to really gear up for just to have the honor of running!" is laughable.

I was maxed out for the vanguard marks and crucible marks for the week.

I am level 3 reputation with the Future War Cult.

Good job, you earned not getting into the raid with them because RNG didn't smile upon you.

The raid doesn't actually unlock unless you are at 26, but players of any level can go in if that player is in your party; however, you are correct that I'd actually recommend level 27 for it.

I don't understand how you could be unable to get to 26 without relying on any RNG if you had 100 both Vanguard and Crucible marks. It actually seems like a mathematical impossibilty. :-/ If you read my guide, can you tell me what was actually stopping you? Did you buy a helm before boots/gauntlet/chest? Is it upgrades?

edit: The weekend vendor also HAD to have something you can use. By definition. I'm sorry man, I don't understand.

What's everyone's experience like on the weekly heroic strike? I've had people quit after 2 wipes on 2 separate occasions. Both times it was on the third wave before the door opens, kind of annoying. I don't expect a really high tolerance for punishment, but it's meant to be hard and we're not completely overleveled for it.

Anyway, if anyone wants to give it a try on the lowly PS3, I'm game.

The beauty of RNG is that people will have different experiences. I've had good luck with farming. Some people will have bad. Some days I don't feel like doing the Strike Playlist/Crucible for marks so I farm for an hour instead.

Everyone should play the game the way they want. The people shitting on farmers have no place to do so.

Loot tables for the very first run difficulty of dungeons don't make you raid ready. They make it easier to run the dungeons that gain you the rep and currency. In some, the first run difficulty of dungeons loot tables only serve to make you ready to take on the second run difficulty of dungeons which loot tables still don't make you raid ready. Or at the very least, make you less viable in a raid than the gear earned through the Rep and Currency.

The only loot table drops in an MMO that really make powerful enough for the next top tier of content are those that drop from bosses in actual raids. Normal mode readies you for Hardmode which readies you for either the next higher difficulty (if there is one) or for the first tier of the next planned raid.

yeah. It's my favorite pulse rifle but ultimately not so great because it's level 16.

the weapon itself

It's awesome. CLEARLY, it's the only PVP-viable handgun in the entire game.

Cap your marks and don't play the game until next week, guys. This is the true endgame.

I have no idea what you are trying to say.

In only a couple of hours farming, I've had 8 legendary engrams drop. Most were garbage but three turned into exotic weapons/helmets. In that time I wouldn't have even been able to afford a single legendary. Farming is worth it.

Well that's lucky you, and honestly too dull a process for me.

So, I maxed out on the crucible marks and vanguard marks, and I spent all of my rep points getting to rank 3 with the future war cult. I also had crucible marks left over from last week.

By the time Thursday rolled around I had bought the legendary helmet and gauntlets from the future war cult, and I had the legendary rifle from rank 3. I'm a titan, so the exotic for this week was a legendary helmet.

Had I put 3 points into the gauntlets and got the exotic upgraded the first stage I could have gone to the raid, but I needed more strange coins. I had done the weekly strike and everything, so I was cave farming for the strange coins.

I just barely missed that exotic. :'(

i found a gunslinger bro. perfect example of why i love the class. even the scoreboard looks the same - loot and all.

Oh god.... After that amazing spree he is the ONLY one who doesn't get anything. That is just bullshit
