Why even play the game if you don't enjoy strikes or pvp? What else is there?

grinding, I just like grinding. I don't see the point in doing pvp or pve if none of my performance matters. I have a lot respect for anyone who still enjoys the strikes after 60 hours in the game, I certainly don't. Spending 6 hours on the lootcave while doing other things in the meantime was more fun to me. It probably won't be today, but that's just the point where I move to something else then.

What's your PSN? We have 6 people now but in case anyone isn't able to make it, I'll add you to the group. :)

So yesterday I got green looking weapons from blue engrams. Is this a glitch, or its there to piss off gamers.

Has anyone else in this thread had this problem?

I'm downloading the digital edition of Destiny for PS4, and the download has almost completed (the information screen in the OS shows the download is at 18/18GB). When I load the game however, the 'Installing Destiny' screen appears, with 98% complete and 15.74/16.04GB, and it doesn't seem to go up anymore. It had been doing a relatively constant speed before then.

Any ideas? The though of having to delete and redownload is making me sick.

The loot cave is good if you want to reach level 24. After that is pointless.

Besides, with enough marks and rep, you can buy armors from vendors and reach level 26. In the long run, you'll have more and better options to build your character.

Holy hell I have so much Relic Iron from the chest farming zone on Mars. It's just a straight hover bike journey away from the starting patrol area, where Vex are fighting Cabal. Currently sitting at well over 150. Getting better with the chest zone on Earth for Spinmetal, but still not able to find all of them, causing new ones not to spawn in.

Now I just need my exotic gloves to level up so I can spend it and finally get my light level up past 26...

Also, I got my first exotic weapon bounty. It gave me three options, so I picked what I thought would be the quickest one, which was talk to the Vanguard Warlock person.... Only turns out talking to her just gave me the first part of the quest. Which is to not die in 5 strikes... Man, wish I'd just taken the 'kill x enemy' bounty...

pretty much everything in the game is pointless when you reach level 26 if you see it that way. There's no big upgrade I could get for my equipment, all I could do is farm materials for hours. Seeing legendary engrams drop gives me at least a bit of excitment, it could always be an exotic.

For those that are disappointed with the grind in Destiny, have you ever played an mmo?

I'm finding the grind in Destiny much less work and more rewarding than Guild Wars 2 and Old Republic. Admittedly they might not be the best examples, but they're the only other mmo games I have played. The grind in those games is just ridiculous for somebody with a job and wife.

I need a lot of Relic Iron so might have to go find a video of the chest run.

Yesterday I got 3 legendary drops. Took them to the cryptarch.

1 legendary hand canon
2 blue boots

The crazy thing is I got 2 more legendary items from turning in blues.

WAT.

Nah the rates are good. They ruined the feel of getting a good piece in Diablo when everyone cried about loot. The point of good loot is that it's rare.

Drops are fine, having a higher chance of getting a rare than a legendary from a purple engram is what really needs to be fixed

Purples shouldn't be as rare as they are right now and when dropped, they shouldn't turn into blues or lower. That's just trollin' the players. I can understand exotics being rare but hey, you can buy those with coins from Xur so who cares anymore.

I played both and the reason I stopped was because it became a grind.

You rank up the cryptarch by decrypting engrams. Each level you get a present in the form of engrams.

No, I think he's saying that his two blue engrams turned into legendaries. This also happened to me. Got a legendary helmet from a blue engram -- of course it wasn't for the class I'm playing (Titan).

But I've also gotten 3 exotics from purple engrams, so keep trying!

Y'know. We have people that think you should be able to trade. And I honestly wouldn't be against it with the way the game actually turned out. Their original reasoning was that you were supposed to earn your gear. It was supposed to be like a trophy. You could show it off. And people might see that cool thing you have and aspire to get it themselves. I liked this idea.

What we actually got was this:

"Whoa, is that [insert awesome legendary/exotic weapon here]?! Where'd you get that?!"
"Oh, you know, I got a 0.3 K/D in the Crucible and it gave it to me."
"Oh... huh..."

I liked the idea of there being high end exotics that may be unique to certain strike/raid bosses. RNG is fine, but not entirely random drops for no apparent reason. I'm fine with killing the same boss repeatedly trying to get something cool. I would like to say "Yeah I got this by beating a level 24 version of the Archon Priest a few times and prying it from his cold, dead hands". Instead I get to say "Yeah, I bought like, almost all my gear including my exotics except this one that I got because of an RNG bounty". Loot games are fun but Destiny, though sold as one, isn't really one lol. It's a game with time-gated progression(Marks) and a small chance at bypassing that with pure luck rather than skill or effort.

Now, despite that, I still enjoy the game. But yeah. Not sure why I suddenly felt like posting this, but yeah. The whole "earning your gear" thing has been on my mind for a while lol.

Edit: Man, even I cringe reading my last line there... I gotta start proofreading a bit lol.

Oh I see. Yes, blue engrams have a low chance of decrypting into a legendary item. Lucky both of you! .)

The cave of wonders is good when you just reach level 20 and need to get a lot of rare gear with light, but once you make it to the point where you need legendaries to lvl up it's better to just join a faction and lvl up its rep and get crucible marks and simply buy legendaries. It's a lot easier than relying on RNG.

You know what the real problem with the treasure cave is? People just gear out through shooting at the cave (and, in some cases, level up by shooting at the cave), and then they get into harder strikes/raids and just suck. I've never seen so many people who are level 27 and 28 just play so terrible or not know how basic mechanics work.

This makes a ton of sense to me. "Time-gated progression" is exactly what it feels like. Still loving it despite that though...

This. My blue engrams turned into legendaries.

When people are talking about items that aren't for a specific class, do they mean it's actually locked to a class or the stats aren't ideal for their class? None of my blues or my legendary are class specific aside from the marks.

Did you guys know this game has a cover mechanic? If you crouch behind something and then ADs you will pop out. Let go of aim and you take cover.

Why was there no real tutorial

I hate MMOs in general, and if I have to do boring grinding in Destiny to proceed I might get bored. So far though, Destiny has been amazing. Just wish Bungie implemented more matchmaking options if not for the raid at least for night fall, weekly and daily. No reason not to have it.

They communicated the first big list of changes, so I'm sure that will continue.

Well, they are capable of doing small stealth changes. I just want them to communicate every little thing. I know it won't happen, but will be nice.

Halfway through level 27, I think I finally passed that hump that compels me to go nuts every day. Vanguard 3 (stupid pulse rifle was my free gift), will be Crucible rank 3 today....so now it's just a rep for fun, get marks to destroy Legendaries for mats every week, and do whatever.

Defender Titan seems more fun than I expected for PvP as well, so that's good.

I do find grinding soothing, though, and have an awesome spinmetal / chest loop I do on Earth that stays away from the Rocketyard. I guess I could get to know the other planets, I don't know them well at all

The game has serious, serious issues and if I actually stop to think about it, while it's definitely a decent game, some of the design decisions were pants on head dumb....but damn, do I enjoy it. Definitely worth the money for it.

****
(I'd like to...finally...make some friends who need someone like me for the Raid. Eastern US times, prefer Fridays or Sundays for raid, but will try and work around you.)

I'm enjoying the new phase of the game that I'm in.

Looking for materials, having to do all the daily bounties, looking for public events, etc. to work on weapon upgrades is really enjoyable.

Much better than hoping and praying for legendaries/exotics.

Just buy some good armor pieces to get your level up so you can start doing the harder strikes which give good rewards. I got an exotic weapon from the weekly nightfall last night and I'm only a level 27.

I said level 24. :) The loot cave is only good between level 20 and 24.

Instead of farming for hours in the loot cave, you could do PVP or PVE and receive reputation and marks. This way, you don't need to rely anymore on RNG.

Thanks toasty and kamina. Easy peasy :-P

Any other destiny girls fancy having an all female raid team? Just, you know, to be the first in the world :-D

You can also spot the farmers in PVP.

"Nice .05 KD ratio there, Mr. 28!"

Got my first legendary drop fanning the moon mission to do the 3 kids with super 20 times bounty. Turned into a blue pulse rifle. smh

Not all pulse rifles are bad but Bad Juju is. Actually I haven't even seen anyone say any exotic weapon is good so far.
My Red Death pulse rifle isn't good, it's phenomenal! And I haven't unlocked the Red Death trait of every kill gives you health and faster reload. It sounds like an M16 burst instead of phaser sound.

They need to introduce a new weapon rarity. Like orange or pink or teal that you absolutely CANNOT buy or get bounties for under any circumstances.

Their presence will be whispered about and those who wield them will be legends.

This concept of earning or buying one of the rarest weapons in the game is dumb.

Not all people that suck at PvP are farmers, you know. :'(

And they should drop from green engrams.

Silly question time, do Vanguard marks essentially become worthless when you have a Faction item equipped, since you can't level up the Vanguard without taking it off?

The Bad JuJu only sucks at first.

But it has to... since later down the line it instantly reloads after a kill.

It's probably balls in PvP but I mainly PvE anyways so I don't mind.

Are there any legendary auto rifles that outperform the Shingen-E? And if so which? I've heard good things about the suros regime exotic, but nothing about legendaries.

You can still buy items with them surely? Just not increase what you have when you're wearing the faction piece?
