When you race you earn points and unlocks. All these feed into your club and you earn club unlocks together.

Therefore, it means the size has to be a balancing act because if you go large, larger clubs will unlock everything instantly, whereas if you're a loner you'll be there forever.

They also talked about how it allows for 6v6 club on club action.

I like the progression system, but I guess they could add sort of something like 'affiliated clubs' or somewhere where you don't feed into all those clubs but they're recognised as being one unit.

Please explain further. You're not really giving us much to work on. Why were the graphics awful and what trailers and videos are you comparing them to? I'm sure we could actually find gameplay footage from PAX if we tried hard enough to compare it too. What other racing games do you play that you're comparing it to? Because it's no Motorstorm that's for sure.

I won't address the looks like something from the beginning of last gen comment. Unless you played it at like PAX 2013.
