PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | September 2014

It's okay alone, but you are missing out without a Buddy, that really makes Dead Nation fun.
I wouldn't especially recommend it. Maybe if you can play with someone online. The start of the game is painful enough due to the bad starting weapon. Definitely shines in co op.

Thanks! I'm looking for something in the vein of Killzone Liberation on Vita but both this and Helldivers look too multiplayer-oriented...

As for the other games I was interested in
After Burner - must buy if it's not on IGC(which is very unlikely)
BGE HD - still not sure, downloading the demo right now
Bionic Commando Rearmed - ^
Braid - must buy, I'm just worried about length
Trine 1 - might as well just wait until I get a PS4 to play the sequel (which I got with PS+). Also, isn't there a remake in the works?

...I'll probably end up getting just 2 or 3 games. Good :P

So I just read a preview of Disgaea 5 and am interested. BUT! What are these games about? Story wise.

I know they are srpgs but what's the story theme?

got my second Platinum on my account! :D
inFamous First Light

- kinda wish they made a similar spin-off for the Videogame Conduit but I guess his story wouldn't be as interesting
Nice job! I've been playing a bit of Infamous Second Son lately, but I keep getting distracted by Diablo 3. I don't know when I'll be able to finish the story at my current pace.

They all have very humorous and self-aware stories. The stories are all different, but all of them have to do with strange things that are happening in the Underworld.

Usually humorous stories placed in the Netherworld featuring some Dangerous Thing that requires your mostly evil team to bond with Friendship! and beat the even more evil thing. With some minor exceptions (mostly in Disgaea 1) they're more humorous than something played for deep lore. Gameplay and humor are definitely the more significant factors, and the absurd skills like throwing people into the moon, throwing the moon into people, flying to the moon then dropping pieces of it on people...the series is very harsh on the moon.

Also, Disgaea 1, 2 and D2 excepted, the stories are almost never directly related, so don't think you're getting in on "part 5" of an ongoing story or anything.

Lol I still need to know what it's about

It is very variable between the games. Like extremely variable. If someone were to describe you the story for Disgaea 3 then Disgaea 4 you might not even be able to tell they were from the same series if not for Prinnies being in both and a general connection to the underworld.

They take place in a setting called the netherworld, and feature characters who are demons of various sorts. The main character of D4, for example is a vampire They spend a lot of time poking fun at/winking at anime and video game tropes. They are very silly.

don't play them for the story, just don't.

Oh, I think the stories tend to be fun.

Guys, is Dead Nation enjoyable if you want to play it solo?

Absolutely. I loved it, plat'd it on ps3 and plan on plating it on ps4 and vita.

People hate on the starting weapon, but i'll point out it's essential you do charged shots. Playing coop, i never see anyone doing charged shots, and I think that's why so many people have issues with it.

If you only use charged shots, you'll quickly get the timing down and it becomes all about lining up shots and taking down a pile of enemies with a single well aimed shot. It's so good that I use it as my primary weapon for most of the game (there are some areas where other weapons are far better).

How long did it take you to beat it? Still on the fence about buying it, at this price it's really tempting though.

Few hours? Plus there's "arcade" style levels I still haven't beaten, nor have I trophy hunted. Plenty worth the $15 IMO, and moreso at whatever sale price it is now

Charged shots are better, but there's still a lot of button-mashing required before you get the SMGs and a decent amount of ammo reserve for 'em. Once you have a respectable stockpile of weapons that consume ammo and can keep buying SMG ammo the game is much better.

I suppose it's different styles of gameplay. I never 'button mash' in Dead Nation - it's all very controlled shots, usually taking down multiple zombies. With charged shots on the hard difficulties, button mashing would be death... every shot needs to count or you'll get mobbed. I rarely use the submachine guns except for very specific situations, as I'm generally good enough with the rifle to take down hoards.

I played through it many times solo (including beating the hardest difficultly) and only did coop where trophies were required. Great game.

Is it possible to buy a game that you've already redeemed as part of PS+? Proteus has just gone on sale on the EU store and I want to get it so I know I have it if let my subscription lapse.

Also Rogue Legacy has gone missing from the Store on the Vita, even if you try searching for it. The Vita version will still be added to my download list if I buy it on PS4, right?

It's not possible to buy a game while you're subbed but since Proteus isn't a game maybe it's an exception?

Blacklist was a fun game. That said, they kept calling it "Splinter Cell" even though neither Sam Fisher nor his trademark dark sense of humor could be found anywhere in the game.

Not letting us buy PS+ games for realsies and not letting us buy gifts are stupid. Why would you limit how I can spend money.

You sort of own this, so here's a button to download, here's another button to buy as a gift, oh, and here's another button to buy it for yourself since while you can download it for free, you don't technically own it... oh, and here's another button in case you want to add it to your wishlist in case you want to do one of those other buttons later.

I agree with you... but I understand why it's not there, especially when it would require changing 4 storefronts. Having it either be 'buy' or 'download' is clean and easy.

Welp. Sony did it again. Put a game that I'm interested on sale :/. 4 months after getting release, it's on sale..... It's confirmed. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 will be on sale in (late) November or December(maybe as a christmas sale) ;).

I'm pretty sure Neptunia games sell a lot better in the west than most of compile heart games. I wouldn't set your hopes too high

I haven't played the first dangan ronpa yet i really wanna play the new one that came out too. I can't really buy both games this month so would there be any tragedy if i were to go play the second game first?

Yeah, you actually probably really don't want to do that. There's a bit of a direct continuation, and the first game is really good otherwise!

You're always denying yourself the maximum amount of enjoyment when you're not playing Visual Novel-type games in order. Since you will experience the story only once for the first time, why not get everything out of it? Also, why would you wanna skip straight to the second game in the first place?

I guess i have to be a bit more patient with my playthrough then. I will probably start playing Disgaea 4 then. I plan to get physical copies for both games eventually.

Second game spoils a lot of the plot points from the first game. I don't know if it spoils everything since I haven't finished DR2 yet, but you wouldn't be getting the full experience if you ever wanted to go back and play it.

I still need to play it. I have had it since I bought my Vita though.

Now I wait for the flood of quotes yelling at me.
I hear ya! I've owned it for a few weeks now, but been putting it off cos I needed to platinum All Stars and finish Golden Abyss. I also appreciate my priorities have been all wrong.

I'm looking forward to seeing it ramp up a bit. It's certainly unique so far!
