PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | September 2014

Got my PS4 just a few weeks ago, been watching PSPlus for free releases while I get a feel for the new system. Been playing Velocity 2X, very pleasantly surprised at how nice it is for a free release.

I just finished watching GB's quick look at Fibbage. Is it just me or would that game be perfect on the Vita with party voice chat?

Personally I would love to play a game like that with some of you VitaGAF people.

Yeah it takes a while before the first murder happens. The game up until that point is a boring first stretch. But it's soooo worth it.

Dangan Ronpa and its sequel are two games that I wish I could forget everything about and experience again for the first time.

VitaGaf...I have a problem.
Over the past few weeks I have purchased the following from the various online store sales:
Gods Eater Burst; Crash 1, 2 and 3; Spyro Trilogy; Ridge Racer Type 4; Knytt Underground; Steamworld Dig; Super Stardust Delta; Oddworld Strangers Wrath; Star Wars Battlefront; Legacy of Kain; Resident Evil 2; Sega Mega Drive Collection; Harvest Moon Hero of Leaf Valley; Half-Minute Hero; Innocent Life; oh and Rogues Legacy. All for a very reasonable fee.

There is no time to play these let alone complete them!!! And to think some people say there isn't enough out there to play on a Vita.

Oh lord.. what did I just buy? : D
Indeed...what did you just buy?! Can't see a name!

Solution: Don't buy anything until you've finished that stuff.

Of course, you won't do that.

Yup, I would like you to answer that question.

Trailer

Looks very nice. Art style reminds me of Hyperlight Drifter. I like what I'm seeing. Though, I hope that the characters and stuff don't look too tiny on the Vita screen. 2 good announcements today (this plus OlliOlli).

Assault Android Cactus on Vita is something I've been thinking about recently. We still don't know when it's coming, right? I really want to see how well it will run, and how it would look on the Vita. Hopefully, not too bad.

There was an update for Treasures of Montezuma Arena that said it decreased the price of items by 33%, but I don't see any difference in price after updating. The cost of the most expensive one was 65,000 crystals before the update and it's 65,000 crystals after the update.

Man, the exposition in the first 2-3 hours of Virtue's last reward is really thick. Most of it is kinda boring, too, if you've played 999. You know that they're all there under mysterious circumstances, the bracelets, that people are probably going to die and stuff. Sure, they change some of the rules up but, jesus christ, i just want this thing to start already.

Hmm I figured they'd roll out custom themes at the same time as the LE DR Vita/ZZS since they revealed it with that ZZS custom theme running on it but I guess we'll have to keep waiting.

Haha I've been thinking the same about Danganronpa 2.

Ahh I just typed a much longer response than I intended to in that FF XIII LttP that just popped up. I've been meaning to make a thread for a while now about how awesome that game's combat system actually is, but how you would never know it because the entire main story can be beaten with auto battle, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I guess I can understand critiques of the story and linearity in that game (both of which I either disagree with or don't mind), but every time I read someone saying that the battle system lacks depth and is awful I get annoyed. Because the battle system is so great, but Square Enix decided that no one actually needed to experience it if they just wanted to beat the game.

Weird mini rant about FF XIII aside, it is weird but I am really really not feeling FF XV. I have played and loved pretty much every FF game in the series so far, even the controversial ones (hello XIII), but what I am seeing of FF XV isn't making me excited. The combat looks great, sure, but no playable female characters really hurts cast diversity. Sure, there will be female characters, but being able to play as a character in a game really helps solidify them and makes you much more attached. Also not feeling the "road trip" vibe at all, it comes off as very lame every screenshot I see with that car. Hopefully the demo out soon will prove me wrong, because I love FF games and this will be the only one I get for like 10 years knowing Square Enix!

Yeah, don't worry you will be rewarded, I guess I lucked out because I didn't play 999.

The beginning was pretty novel for a game when 999 came out, but here it's kinda grating because you already know what you signed up for. So, if you want to get to it and crack some puzzles and find out what's going on, well, I could've watched the entirety of Titanic by now and the game is only just sorta kinda getting past the introduction.

If it's anything like 999, it'll end up awesome as hell but boy are they testing my patience right now.

Does the game ever become quicker (not one move per turn, swapping to the CPU) like the predecessor? I loved that one, but this is way too slow...

I wish the cast was more diverse as well. It's the most disappointing thing about FFXV for me. I'm still really looking forward to it though

It's an absolute joy. I wish I could experience that game for the first time again. The story progression is a bit better after 999 I think.

It's better then 999 IMO but I'm one of the people who played VLR before 999.

There's something called endless mode that might be more like the previous game, but it's DLC. I think it's around $3 though.

Ok, I know there couldn't be any more different games BUT:

- Disgaea
Or
- Sword Art Online

Which one should I buy?:|

I've been playing D4 for a while now, and I can say for sure, get Disgaea. SAO is good, but Disgaea is better, the grind that people say is almost optional, you can get through the main quest if you think carefully on your surroundings and stuff.

Speaking of Disgaea... There are a lot of Disgaea fans on here... and a lot of VN fans too...

Is Disgaea Infinite worth picking up?

I just finished Danganronpa last night, but still haven't played P3P which I bought from a previous sale.

What if I meant Disgaea 1? Would you give me the same answer?:P

Hmm, even better IIRC. D1 has the best story from 1-4, at least that's most people say (I only played 1 and 4, and IMO 1 is better storywise). Can't remember much about the mechanics, it has been a while so it might be a little more dated, but I guess the core should be the same.

I have a copy of 3 that I never played. But I hear 4 looks amazing...never played one so just curious if it's worth it to play through 3 and then get 4 down the road?

Disgaea 4 certainly looks amazing, but 3 is fun enough, and the Land of Carnage is SOOOOOO much more pleasant to unlock in 3. I'd recommend just playing what you have now, then 4 and/or D2 (D2 will make it hard to go to 4 though, and 4 has some unique stuff all to itself).

I would, Disgaea 1 has the best story and some of the most memorable music, though Disgaea 1 PS2 has Bored Etna, PSP one has her new VA though. The PSP version has lots of nice added stuff in general. Really the only one that I'd say could ruin you on earlier games is the Cheat Shop in Disgaea D2, it really streamlines some stuff that used to be rather annoying in post game (to a much lesser extent, the Strongest/weakest enemy bills in some games is nice as well).

BTW, all Disgaea games can be played perfectly well without grinding as a "story mode only" game, and each games' quirks and flaws generally don't show in the "main game". It's only in postgame that Disgaea 2's Felonies bore you to tears, Disgaea 1's Majinn and Weapon Levels ruin everything and Disgaea 4's incredibly unfair and RNG based Land of Carnage unlock is an issue. If you play any Disgaea like a normal JRPG you'll be fine. But hopefully it'll get it's hooks in you and you can get much more play out of it than that.

Just picked up vlr as well. Didn't really get too far in 999, but I'm enjoying the vlr package much more. I agree with you, the dialogue is a bit overwhelming in the first couple of hours

I had a really really hard time getting into the story of Disgaea 3, I really couldn't stand the school setting and the MC's VA bothered me as well. I got it free through PS+ and I still ended up buying D4 to play a Disgaea game. Story and characters interested me so much more. I don't know why I had such an aversion to D3, but I just couldn't play it.

new digimon wsj scan floating around
it features a car
can we drive?!
there's also a girl who should really button down her shirt and think about wearing pants
there's a digimon above a brown terriermon that has a very meme-able face

Is the game/gameplay part of some ongoing series or is it the first Digimon game for the developers?

Is it for children or could we expect a somewhat interesting story and combat system?

I thought Rasberrl made the D3 story easily worth it, Mr. Champloo too. Mao isn't the best protag, but I didn't mind his voice too much. I thought it had an interesting enough twist/final boss motivation. Disgaea 4 I do prefer in almost every way save the Land of Carnage though. I really hate both interrogation AND the RNG pirate spawns...then turns out both are required for LoC. Urg.

I hear ya, I probably would've found more to like if I gave it more time, but I had too much to play at the time D3 went free on PS+ so I only tried to start it a few times, and never got far in. Thoroughly enjoyed what I played of D4 though, but I didn't finish it either due to, again too many games too little time!

Does VLR have the same obnoxious text noise as 999?

Futuridium coming next week...yay! :D

I don't think I'll buy it on day one because that day I'll probably buying the games from current sale
