Titanfall also didn't try to be a MMO.

That is kind of exactly my point. We were talking about content, remember? Last time I booted Destiny up there was a full fledged PvP mode with 11 maps (10 on Xbox) and multiple game types and modes. I cited Titanfall as a game with little content. Titanfall didn't try to do anything more than provide an arguably barebones PvP experience.

There is plenty to do in Destiny. Destiny is a fucking bargain as far as content goes.

Please realize and understand that if you are reading this on NeoGaf then, most likely, you are a statistical outlier in the world of video games. Most video games are not designed with you or your needs at the forefront. You are one end of the Bell Curve. Your Bizarro self version is sitting somewhere in their car on their way home at this very second, they are stoked to finally have had time to get this new game called Destiny they have been hearing about. They will be installing and downloading patches today.

When it comes to loot in a cave this is how I felt about it:

It was a better feeling farming a spot to get a legendary engram and having a chance for something cool then it is to actually go fight a hard boss for no reward other then some XP.

This is bungie's biggest mistake with the loot system.

If you take a step back and look at the broad scope of the game as a whole, it seems like they spent A LOT of time creating the world, and the story missions, and the lore (I know), and didn't put as much attention into the reward system. They expected that it would take people longer to get to high level end game stuff, which you can see by the fact that they hand out such little rep for doing strikes. They expected it to take a long time and be a grind. And yet it didn't take long for people to get to 26-28.

Now people have reached the point where they're kind of stagnating or feel like they're not really getting anything for their time. Or what they are getting for their time (spinmetal, etc) isn't any fun to get. It seems like Bungie's expectations for players is not what the players expect or want. People want to be rewarded for their time and more importantly they want to see progress.

And I agree with people that say the variety of weapons, armor, etc. is too limited. They didn't put enough in the game and yet I fear that we will not see any more until the expansions come out. And who knows how much they will add. Could be a lot, but it also could be a small amount. I'm still enjoying the game but it seems like if they had the time to make fixes so quickly, why haven't they addressed some of the bigger issues already? Like rewards for strikes, matchmaking for weekly strikes, the list goes on.

for some reason that first paragraph just reminded me of this

Are we playing different games?

I got 75+ vanguard marks in the first two days by doing just the daily bounties/story missions/both weeklies. It's really easy and doesn't take long. Much more efficient than farming a cave for hours on end and I'm on my way to Vanguard rank 5 already.

Oh and spoilers: You probably shouldn't have a character completely maxed out with all the best gear and upgrades by the third week of the game being released. Doesn't make much sense for the longevity of a game like this.

Then you're playing nonstop.

1. Most bounties if not all don't give you marks, just rep
2. Story missions don't either, dailies give you like 5-6 per day
3. Vanguard strikes on a level I could attempt back then could give you 4 or so per strike.
4. Public events give you 4 per each one and 2 as a bonus for the first one.

So we're playing the same game but if you seriously believe you're getting them fast enough for a cap of 100 per week, then we're playing them very differently. Instead of giving more for missions or raising the cap, you are forced to walk around a map and wait for 10+ minutes for the next public event to get them as time effectively as possible.

Oh and spoilers: if it takes almost no time for people to reach level 20-24 in a max of 30 when it's supposed to be up till 30 and the only way you can prevent people from reaching higher levels is by forcing systems that limit how much you can have per week, making shit expensive, giving no consistent method to gain necessary materials, or having to rely on a broken RNG system it's on the developer's side if they seriously didn't expect this to happen.

Yup, it was a workaround for a really crappy loot drop system.

They know that and they are working to give more and better activities rewards.

The biggest problem many are having is that they opted to take out the things that are currently serving as pseudo-fixes for their fuck-ups, before fixing said fuck-ups.

"Oh yeah, we're going to do something about the loot. Sometime later. Probably by the end of the year. In the meantime, we're going to take away the things you're doing because we messed up. So, I dunno, have fun with that."

Frankly, I cut back on my farming in the first place because the loot system is just... bad... even with the loot cave. So it doesn't really affect me. But I absolutely see where people are coming from.

This man gets it,.

The cave was one of the few things organic about this game and they can't have that. It's the invisible walls mentality applied to everything. Not experiencing our mediocre game as intended? Well, that's your fault.

Yeah that's my main concern. I haven't even done the cave thing since the first day it blew up everywhere, it's more Bungies attitude towards improving the game.

There is so much stuff that you expect a game to do properly that Destiny doesn't. All the other awesome stuff lets you ignore the issues until they get fixed but the issue is that Bungie are more worried about reactive nerfing than they are actually implementing changes that will improve the experience.

No one had to loot the cave. No one was forced to loot the cave. The major benefit from the cave was levelling up the Cryptarch while at a low level but even that has minimal benefits to the player, at best.

it's incredibly odd they are spending their time patching this stuff rather than simple stuff like putting consumables on the d-pad or fixing glitched content (like the ghosts).

Maybe, a thought, but maybe instead of bitching and dumping salt on your keyboard you should play the game. Maybe, again, a thought, maybe instead of people screaming "BUNGIE WHY YOU PATCH OUT CAVE AND NOT FIX LOOT DROPS" people should exhibit some amount of patience, I mean, considering they said they're working on it. Oh no, instead lets all just go in the OT on GAF and whine and bitch and moan about how I WANT THIS NOW WAH WAH WAH WAH.

You want to enjoy the game you bought? Play the fucking game. You stop enjoying it? Stop playing it. Wait for them to address your issues, like they said they are going to. Smashing your head on keyboard in here and expecting some magical Bungie faerie to come down and make everything all better for you isn't going to happen.

It's funny but I'm playing the game as I'm browsing and typing this up. Look I' leel 27, I have all the gear I want and beyond the fact that there's nothing in it for e to re-run heroic story missions I'm not too bothered about the Queen's Gear Stuff. I'm just expecting ore from Bungie. They promised a lot and it's not really being delivered.

I'm not expect ascendant stuff to just fall in my lap, I'm just expecting more content than "Here go do the same thing you just did but with some heroic modifiers" or Warlock helms to not have the same tow designs unless they're exotic. Or that Xur not sell the same damn thing twice a week.

It's little things sure, BUT it's a lot of little things.

Well good for that person. It doesn't change my own particular issues with the game. It's not like Destiny is blazing some new ground. MMOs and loot games have been around for a decade now.

No you aren't. Daily story mission gives ascended mats and can be done on each of your characters. Same for daily public event mail. Same for daily public event completions.

The amount of materials needed to reach level 28 isn't particularly large. Unless you're pushing all your gear to 29 (why?), you don't need a ton of shards.

On top of that, I'm not sure people have realized that higher attack does precisely fuckall for you against enemies of a lower level, it helps if you're fighting higher level enemies.

Or to put it another way, if you're blowing all your energy and shards upgrading all your weapons and armor, you're wasting them for no good reason.

Armor in particular should only be capped if it is either a) raid armor that goes to 30 light or b) you're pushing to hit 29 so you can do the hard mode raid.

Otherwise you can reach 28 reasonably easily (especially easily now that queen is giving you free chest/helm, that means you need a whopping 65 marks or 130 marks to cap out in armor depending on what xur has for you).

Once you're 28 you can do the weekly nightfall easily, and all other existing content outside the hard mode raid without trouble.

If you want to do the hard mode raid right now, then yeah, you're going to have to triple farm dailies and weeklies with three capped characters, but for literally any other content in the game, you do not need to do so (and frankly, doing daily and weekly events on three different classes sounds a hell of a lot more fun to me than farming engrams, ymmv).

The sheer amount of misinformation and FUD being talked in this thread is unreal, I think I'm going to take a hiatus for a few days until things calm down or we get a dedicated gameplay talk thread in community or something.

There's very little point in attempting to ask or answer gameplay questions in the OT when the majority of posts are throwaway rants that we've seen posted literally hundreds of times.

On top of that there's a ton of misunderstanding, confusion, or outright false complaints about the way loot and progression function in the game. A lot of that is on Bungie, they fucked up by not laying out progression clearly, but the information is out there, if you care to look for it.

Hell, a lot of the information is right here in linked posts in these threads, but again, it's drowned out by the noise.

This post is great. I've had my own moments of doubt in Destiny, but logging in for a few hours, playing the daily heroic, completing the daily public event for the bonus, completing a few bounties and during the current event running a few Queen's missions I go away with a bunch of shards, marks and sometimes a cool item or two feeling happy about the day's spoils and I keep enjoying the game both doing some stuff solo and playing with some Gaffers. Playing it 'the way Bungie wants you to play it' is really the best way to play it and there's absolutely nothing about the progression that makes it 'painful' in any way.

Instead of grinding engrams and trying to keep your sanity do yourselves a favour and just let the days past, play the game for fun and you'll be 28 and ready for the raid in a couple pleasant weeks.

Ahr, I'm stuck at the final boss of the weekly heroic strike. Would somebody on PS4 please be so nice and help me out? PSN: kuppii930

I just hope they patch in drops for boss type enemies, i have killed hundreds of walkers in my time with destiny and the only thing they ever dropped was my connection.

I have a Legenday Scout Rifle with solar deal... when I get home I will see if is the same.

I have blue level scout rifle that has exploding rounds and the ability to pick up ammo by shooting at it. It's not exclusive to legendaries/exotics.

It's a perk some guns can get, my current handcannon has it as an unlock.

Interesting. I'm a level 22 but I've never even seen that perk before. Thanks.

COD has a ton more variety than what you see in Destiny. You can literally never know what you might see in a match. A swarm of dogs might come out, a helicopter fucks you up, or some guy placing a turret somewhere. The killstreaks work great as a reward system and also mixing up matches so they don't feel stale. Also the XP system takes a shitload longer to cap out.

I see you are in the COD has the greatest gameplay on the face of the planet camp then. Not too much longer for you to wait. Enjoy it by all means.

Has a chance to Raid it up with a GAF group from the beginning...

... PS4 randomly turns off, and won't turn back on. :(

why haven't they addressed some of the bigger issues already? Like rewards for strikes, matchmaking for weekly strikes, the list goes on.

The game has been available for just over 2 weeks and they've already mentioned they planning on addressing strikes and such.

I did like you and I got my Legendariea and Exotic with no time... at end I grinded to get the planets materials for upgrades but it is so little time like 30 minutes for 50 materials.

Because shooting into a low level cave is fun.

It was certainly a lot more rewarding than mindlessly running through a Strike. I also had plenty of time to interact with some other players and made some new friends to play with that way. Plus the occasional PE or mob war breaking out changed things up from time to time. Anyways, moot point since it's gone now.

RARE FUSION RIFLE ON SALE AT GUNSMITH

Everyday Math comin' through with the PSA. Thanks!

Pocket Infinity requires you to dismantle a number of them.

For an exotic bounty you need to dismantle 10 rare or better fusion rifles.

One of the requirements for an exotic bounty.

Part of the Pocket Infinity exotic bounty is to dismantle 10 rare fusion rifles.

One of these two:
A: They nerfed the shotgun

B: There's an exotic bounty to dismantle 10 fusion rifles.

Pick one.

They know that and they are working to give more and better activities rewards.

How do you know that they know that? Did they post anything in regarding to it?
Because the current activity rewards are still garbage.
No consistent way to earn coins nor ascendent mats beside dismantling hundreds of items from killing millions of mobs.
I don't know why they just don't reward these stuff like candy since in the end, this isn't a true MMO and iLVL doesn't matter in PVP.

I'm getting a lot of engrams right now.
Finally got another exotic from a legendary. Of course I finally get an exotic sniper rifle the day I unlock Pocket Infinity.

I have 4 weapons I need to level and upgrade simultaneously. Probably going to spend my strange coins buying those weapon XP amps from Xur.
