Just a few days until the digital version of the Galaxy Trucker boardgame hits! ^_^ Been approved, and held for a release on the 29th (which is a tad annoying, as it would have been great to be able to play over the weekend)

Just as a curiosity, i tried loading up the horrible iOS version of Ultimate MK3 on my 6+ and, almost as a favor to me, it doesn't work at all. Should've seen that coming.

Anyone try Age of Zombies on Iphone 6? I just get the spinning blue vortex with sounds in the background after the title screen but it never loads past that.

So I'm going to try and be apart of iOS gaming GAF. I sold my PSVITA & 3DS and getting a 64 iphone 6 tomorrow I already have Bastion and want TWEWY. How are the on the 6?

been thinking all day, and I think it may be wiser to go 6 over 6+. Here's my reasoning

6+ bend issue is worse than the 6 (I watched a youtube vid on this)
6+ because it supersamples so much then downsamples could effect performance on any number of games
Then I personally don't believe a lot of apps will get optimised for the 6 plus when compared to the 6 itself, I feel the fact the + is continuing the mainline phone size (somewhat) it will get the better support, not just now but in the long run (I also suspect the 6 will sell more than the +, or that apple may adjust the + in future iterations but that speculation on my part. which could effect long term app support)
Obviously price.

the only thing I see lacking would be battery life.

I loathe phablet phones, 5.5" is way too big IMO.

For the couple of people that said they picked up The Maze Runner and were enjoying it, the dev has produced a new iOS build that went into submission a couple of days ago. Should help the frame rate on some of the later levels, as well as resolving a lot of niggling issues around the daily rewards, incentivized video, loading timeouts, etc.

Hopefully approved and live by the end of next week.

Why did you sell your vita 3ds?

Because I literally stopped playing them.. The last 3DS game I played was Resident Evil Revelations and last Vita game was Persona 4. I find my self playing little games on my phone when I'm on break or sitting in the car waiting for someone.

A Clash of Clans commerical during South Park.

Really? Commercials for mobile games now? And not stuff that deserves the attention like Monument Valley or 80 Days

Clash of Clans have been doing TV commercials for a while. They have the budget/money to burn, so why the hell not.

Games like Monument Valley or 80 Days don't have anywhere near that budget, and they don't appeal as much to the general TV audience, so it wouldn't be worth doing anyway.

Anyone have a current favorite roguelike?

Or a few recommendations outside 868 hack(I own it)

I still really like Sword of Fargoal, and am miffed that the sequel seems to be in limbo.

Regarding new phones, I'm diving in with the 6+. I expect I'll love it, but am a little worried. =)

Clash of Clans is a great game (it even has its own GAF thread). I've been playing it for a year and a half.

King and Supercell have been doing TV ads for most of this year already I believe. We even get them down in NZ.

However, I expect the business model doesn't stack up for most developers and publishers to take that advertising route because conversion rates will be low. I guess what King and Supercell have to their advantage is a massive pool of lapsed players, so not only do TV ads help attract new users, but they remind existing or former players to help get back into the game so it aids engagement as well.

Adult Swim has also done TV ads for most of their mobile games for a couple of years as well. We had ads as far back as the original Monsters Ate My Condo. Of course, "owning" the channel enables them to screen ads for "free" so they have much more ability to leverage that sort of promotion than most publishers.

Yeah, unfortunately, I have seen quite a few King commercials. But with the millions their games are making, they can afford it.

It would be cool if indie devs could pool money and do a commercial ... Something like "Go Indie" and show clips of a bunch of great games.

Won't likely happen but I hate seeing all these F2P games just making oodles of money while truly great games are lucky to break even.

Hm, I haven't seen any other mobile game commericals. But I mean, maybe of all the IOS games out there, Clash of Clans is the one that needs the least amount of exposure and attention. So just weird to see a commerical for it

There are posters for that game at my train station, they are pushing it hard.

Never played, no interest.

Oh, I've seen King ads being played ever since the end of last year. Every time I see them makes me a bit sad inside. I've seen Clash Of Clans ads show up a number of times as well. I don't get why they even do the ads. I'd have thought that most people with a mobile device would have heard about those games when they got those ads, and whenever King releases the new game, it quickly gets to the top of the free ad charts without any advertisement for it.

It's weird though, they're getting ads but I haven't seen ads for anything AAA since the ads for PS4 and Xbox One at the end of the last year (and it was a long time since the one before it). Maybe it's because I don't watch most TV and I end up skipping all of the ads with what I do watch.

I've seen lots of Destiny, Diablo Ultimate Evil Edition, and Xbox One ads recently

It's been a while since I've seen a music game that stood out, a lot of the ones over the last year all sorta employed the same type of setup, packs of songs, credits or whatever, etc.

Piano City definitely seems to follow it's own path (or the F2P path that is), and does it beautifully, for what it is, a F2P game. I'd definitely give it a spin if you enjoy music games. I'm not very versed in them myself, but I do enjoy the tap-timing gameplay, and this one obviously focuses on the Piano, and is just pleasant to play songs you recognize.

I do like what I've played of it, and like how it's got the almost city-builder theme going, where you have a large single player campaign, with quests, daily challenges, etc. Obviously not for everyone, but I haven't seen it mentioned, and I do think it's worth trying. So far nothing offensive at all in it, and I'm half tempted to unlock the pack of songs for $2 which would bring a bit more of a modern touch to the classical selection, but I'm unlocking so many classic songs currently, I've been quite content with what the game is providing.

Japanese TV is bombarded by Puzzle & Dragons commercials. Clash of Clans commercials are fairly common, though not to the level that P&D's are. Hell, mobile game commercials are rivaling standard consumer goods & services during certain time slots.

Yeah, I often see Monster Strike cms on japanese tv, too.

So anyone else playing Turbo Dimount?
Yes, and it's awesome. I bought the unlock everything pack, and it's almost overwhelming.

Here's a high score I shared on Everyplay:

Mr. Dismount thinks he's Chun-Li or something towards the end.

As others have said, I see P&D commercials on the trains here in Japan all the time. Lots of regular ads for other F2P games as well everywhere I go.

Well, I'm in New Zealand, so that's probable more of the reason

I was thinking about this topic, and I remembered that even though I don't really see video game ads in New Zealand, around the time when Destiny launched, one of the breakfast shows in New Zealand did a piece about it. It was odd to see, as I've seen them do nothing of the type before hand

Oh god, I see those too. They were funny at first but I've definitely gotten tired of them. The Melf Story or whatever the fuck its called commercials with that guy stalking the young girl playing the game are creepy!

Still looking for all the secrets in 80 Days while I wait for new Monument Valley levels.

Any good vertical shooters along ESPgaluda II lines?I stumbled across this old arse game called Visoriser which is cool but it's way short.

Oh my, Seabeard looks nice. Many riffs on Wind Waker in it.

I hope to all things holygaming that it has a price attached to it and doesn't need to monetise by compromising the game structure.

Pretty disappointed there was no cool sales with ios 8 and iPhone 6 release.

None at all.

Just more free games.

:(
I guess "cool" is relative, but...

2K Drive dropped from $7 to $0
Matchstick Memories dropped from $3 to $0
God of Blades dropped from $3 to $0
Out There dropped from $4 to $2
Bioshock dropped from $15 to $11

And that's just scrolling through my AppShopper wish/have lists.

Downloaded God of Blades since it was (still is?) free and I'm really surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. I had thought it was just another runner, but the combat is so satisfying and the visuals are very vibrant and interesting. Recommended if you've never played it

It's a fantastic game.
Do not miss the story and the library meta game to unlock additional swords.

Going to give it a try. Thanks for the heads up.

What are the best portrait games? I prefer them on the iPhone, I have Edge/Extended, 99 Bricks, 100000, Ridicolous Fishing, Knights of P&P and some others, looking for good time wasters (can't stand the Tower games, all you do is re-stock).

Asphalt Overdrive has been pretty decent for me so far.

Thanks, will have a look at those. How is 80 days for re-playability? Gamebooks usually put me off as they are often one and done.
Less a game book, more a visual narrative adventure. The entire world is open to explore, with numerous routes to take, and you can't possibly explore everything in one playthrough
