You can sign out of your US account on your phone and switch to the Japanese account, and then launch the games and make the IAP purchases. Everything else will work just fine, and updating your US apps will just ask you once for the password.

Interesting. Do you know if apps typically verify account rights each time you boot it up? I'm wondering if I can switch over to my Japanese account, buy the content, and then switch back over to my U.S. account and access that content.

Here, also 2208x1242

wR0ET7a.jpg

That looks like upscaling to me.

Even with a 5S, I'm steering clear of this. If a software update is causing cellular reception issues....just no.
Supposedly only US carriers are affected. Still........... Wut.

On a different note, still hopelessly addicted to Plunder Pirates. Went to bed and dreamt about the fucking game, that shit never happens.

I imagine this is what Puzzle & Dragons addicts feel like. A game which I could never get into.

Supposedly only US carriers are affected.

And that would include me :(

Honestly the "fix" for the health apps is not something I'm excited about. The idea sounds cool (keeping track of all aspects of your health). But the ability of apps sharing what could be sensitive data is pretty scary. Seems like another data breach disaster waiting to happen.

Holy shit, Turbo Dismount is so amazing...and I haven't left the first level or bought anything yet!

My new time-waster has arrived.

Came across this from the Apple ToS which might explain the odd bundle issues described a couple of pages back

APP BUNDLES

Some App Store Products may contain multiple items (“App Bundles”). The price displayed with an App Bundle is the price you will be charged upon purchasing the App Bundle. The App Bundle price may be reduced to account for App Store Products you have already purchased or acquired, but may include a minimum charge to complete the App Bundle.

Of course, the option still shouldn't even be there if you already have all the apps in a bundle.

As an Asphalt 8 fan, I wasn't quite sure what to think of the new racing/runner, Asphalt Overdrive. But I'm pleasantly surprised.

Yes, it has all the usual crappy F2P features including timers. But it's probably the best BTB runner I've played in a long while.

Things might change that opinion if I start to hit hard paywalls (I can deal with the timer as long as it doesn't increase to insane periods).

That's what disturbs me. I've seen several bundles that are still showing amounts (some fairly high) even if I owned every app in the bundle. This could be another IAP type fiasco for parents whose children go ahead and "complete" an already completed bundle.

first i've heard of this. is it new? looks good.

That explains it. Payment acquirers like VISA, MasterCard etc. charge Apple a percentage fee on all transactions, a dollar is usually the lowest a merchant would go in order to not loose money on a transaction. This is for example why many merchants like Sony etc. require a minimum charge of $5 on their systems.

Yeah, just came out today. One word of warning -- this is one of those games that keeps increasing in size as you play

It's like an 89 MB download. Jumps to about 180 MB on install. Then after about 10 runs, it's now 420 MB. Hate crap like that. MC5 does it too. Guess it's Gameloft's new practice.

There is no account 'check' when you boot the game. Once you download/unlock the content, you can freely switch accounts, and the content will remain functional.

Thanks for the screenshots nynt9

Turbo Dismount is really nice, but there are performance issues for me which is annoying. I'll keep on playing it though. It's such fun

Oh, over 200MB of in-game downloads?

Hey, look at that, I'm noping so high that I'm passing airplanes in the sky

Awesome! I'll give this a try later.

Man, coming back to iOS gaming after being on Android for a while is crazy. Asphalt 8 not only runs waaaaaay better, but has extra graphical effects that flat out aren't in the Android version.

What good iOS exclusives have come out in the last year or so?

A good way to start if you're new to the monthly thread format in the iOS threads is just to hit up the OP for each month, it'll highlight the majority of the biggest releases. There's quite a few OPs to go through now, it's a good resource for people looking to fill in some gaps.

Yeah, as you scroll through the cars the first thing you see when you push that right arrow to look at the next one is "Downloading...". And the same thing for the third one. And using a network traffic app (because I'm jailbroken) most of the data it's bloated out to (from 169 to 440) is actually network stuff and not just expanding game assets into a cache or something.

Deleting post-haste. Fuck them for making me use cellular data for that shit. If you can't include it in the game, unless it's IAP then you can fuck right off. Don't even think it came with a warning about data usage.

Im purchasing a 6+ 16gb, am I going to regret the memory size if I start getting a few games? What's the typical game size?

Thanks for the responses, Im going to cancel my order and go with a 6 64gb instead of a plus 16gb. I might give in and make it a 6+ 64gb, I do miss having a large screen.

Most of the games on my iPhone average 300 megs, but they aren't 3D. Shinier games have console download sizes like 1-3 gig range.

I'm sure Infinity Blade 4 will be around 8 gigs.

The way I understand it, EVERYTHING is rendered internally at 2208x1242 on the 6+ and EVERYTHING is then down sampled to 1080p. This is how iOS works. 2208x1242 is 3x the resolution of the original iPhone in each dimension and is the resolution the 6+ screen should have been. For cost reasons, Apple decided to release their first phone with a non iOS native screen.

The reason I didn't buy the phone is for this very reason. Text, apps, games... everything is down sampled to 1080p which makes almost nothing natively sharp on the 6+.

Although, down sampling should work in the favour of games if the games aren't upscaled to 2208x1242 first before being down sampled again.

It's going to be hard to wait for the 6S and 6S+, but I think I will. I'll just get a new iPad mini 2 or whatever the hell they're gonna call it when it comes out early next year. My 5S is fine for now, even though iOS 8 has made its battery life go to shit. Even then, I'd have trouble deciding which to get, the 6 or 6+.

i.e., are they ever going to fucking increase the RAM?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Oh hey, God of Blades, highly recommended, is free: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/god-of-blades/id541971611?mt=8

And I've been really enjoying Welcome to the Dungeon lately: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/welcome-to-the-dungeon/id829468833?mt=8 It initially had a horrid timer system, but they removed it after not even a week of being on the App Store due to so many complaints. Listening to customers from a f2p game is refreshing.

So tower defense? What makes it stand out, besides the lovely art style?

This is one of the big three TD games on Armor Games (along with gemcraft and kingdom rush). I haven't played 2, but the first one had perfect balance, and it was just so much fun to play. In fact I just replayed it on my iPad last month.

From what I've read of the web version, the sequel improved on the game in every aspect, but I dunno about the iOS version. I'll post impressions soon

The Interstellar game looks interesting. I wonder if it will spoil the movie?
Judging by the movie script and trailers. A little.

It spoils some visuals from the film more than anything else, also hints at some stuff that would transpire. I'd stay away from it.

Gameplay wise it's not much, you design a solar system then travel to other player's systems in your ship, has 'Newtonian physics' so you have to manage fuel and trajectory etc.

Keep wondering if Seabeard will beat them to the punch.

Completely different games. Castaway Paradise is very much Animal Crossing on iOS. Seabeard is looking to deliver a different experience. I'm looking forward to Seabeard :).

As for the Castaway Paradise launch. It is happening VERY soon. We've never been closer to a launch date. We're literally working on the last feature before we submit our first world wide release build :)

I've never played Castaway personally but according to my wife it's very much not Animal Crossing. She's been disappointed and mentioned the game just boils down to growing crops and fetch quests.

I look forward to checking it out once its global but her experiences has dampened my excitement.

I dunno, looks pretty close to me (closer than anything else on the app store), and I probably spent 100+ hours on the original. Animal Crossing is different for every person though, and to me Animal Crossing was (in this order):

1) Getting the free NES games collected (afaik mini-game arcades are not a feature of Castaway Paradise :(, playing that pinball game 2 player was great)
2) Finding stuff to sell and earn money to pay off the debt
3) Collecting the fish/bugs/fossils
4) Cleaning the village / getting the perfect village achievement
5) Seeing all things change for the holidays
6) Decorating your house
7) Visiting another player's town / sending gifts

Honestly, without the incentive of the NES games, Animal Crossings after the Gamecube version have all lacked that certain something.

If Castaway Paradise implemented very hard to obtain arcade games, even if they just played things like Nibbles/Video Poker/Pong/etc, it'd give the game instantly like 5 out of 10 points for me.

Yes, it looks like Animal Crossing, but doesn't play like one. No seasons.

Find it interesting as 2 years into a phone creeps up, you are more interested in games that are easier on the batteries and then that flips when you get new phone.

Yes, it looks like Animal Crossing, but doesn't play like one. No seasons.

According to their webpage, they have holidays and special events throughout the year, like the island being covered in snow around xmas or something happens for halloween, etc. It would be nice to see the seasons too (perhaps they're on the short-list, dunno if the open beta was feature complete with the final vision of the game), in that the look of the trees/grass change each quarter, along with the bugs/fish you can catch (also day/night while we're at it).

Unlike Animal Crossing, I expect Castaway Paradise to have significant support (additions to the game) after release, going by what I've read during the seemingly-never-ending test period.

I can confirm the seasons. And we're actively working with the community to add features to the game. If people want a feature, we will try our best to make it!

Some seasonal stuff:

1) That is something that would be very cool.
2) We have a lot of upgradable buildings and equipment. So you'll have earn lots of money :)
3) Check! You can even gift fish/bugs/items to your friends, so that they can complete their collections.
4) Getting a 'perfect' village isn't something we reward per se. But you can record videos of your island and show it off to your friends!
5) Yep!
6) YEP
7) Item gifting is in the game right now. Visiting other players is something we are working on. It will happen, but post launch.

Do you have a release date, official or unofficial, for a world-wide release?
I think the game's been soft launched for several months, already.
