It's been a while since I've seen a music game that stood out, a lot of the ones over the last year all sorta employed the same type of setup, packs of songs, credits or whatever, etc.

Piano City definitely seems to follow it's own path (or the F2P path that is), and does it beautifully, for what it is, a F2P game. I'd definitely give it a spin if you enjoy music games. I'm not very versed in them myself, but I do enjoy the tap-timing gameplay, and this one obviously focuses on the Piano, and is just pleasant to play songs you recognize.

I do like what I've played of it, and like how it's got the almost city-builder theme going, where you have a large single player campaign, with quests, daily challenges, etc. Obviously not for everyone, but I haven't seen it mentioned, and I do think it's worth trying. So far nothing offensive at all in it, and I'm half tempted to unlock the pack of songs for $2 which would bring a bit more of a modern touch to the classical selection, but I'm unlocking so many classic songs currently, I've been quite content with what the game is providing.

gave this a shot. its pretty pleasant. Kinda wish you can increase the tempo or difficulty, but maybe thats unlocked later.

Dinking around with my 6+ a bit more. I'm pleasantly surprised how well most unoptimized apps look on here. It's pretty much just Text heavy ones that look too goofy with the large font.

It's more the other apps i have beef with. hurry up and update chrome/tweetbot/etcetc

Personally, I'm impressed with how upscaled games look on my 6 Plus. I was dreading it, seeing how games used to look on the iPhone 4 when it first came out. The huge screen makes it exceptionally nice to play games on (even with on-screen controls).

Apple fixed bundles. Can't give money to Ubisoft for no reason anymore!

Generally....I insta delete games with notifications if they aren't striclty async.

Some (rare) games get non async notifications right tough.

I LOVE the historical notifications Valiant Hearts shows on certain dates...makes me wanting to keep the game installed forever.

(This game need seriously more love).

Picked up Cosmophony. Fantastic twitch runner/shooter with a great soundtrack. The music flows well with it but it's not really a true rythmn game.

Still, kind of like if Unpossible and Rez had a baby. But more in that twitch vein than the shooter of Rez.

Which makes me REALLY wish someone would port Rez to iOS. Probably one of my all time favorite games (to be honest, really, Rez HD on 360).

I've seen gameplay of the tutorial and first level. Do the later levels expand or vary in any way (new obstacles, new enemies, etc.) or is it just faster speeds and new music?

I wish they'd port Rez to everything, man. In any case, will check out Cosmophony.

Only have beaten the first level in "training" mode (unlimited lives with checkpoints). So can't say for sure yet.

I'm also unsure of what it takes to unlock the next level. There's stars for killing all enemies in training and in regular mode. And stars for completing the level on both. Not sure if you need all four to open the next level.

I need to sit down and take a night to just enjoy (well, buy first) 80 days, Sorcery 1/2, Valiant Hearts, Empire, Down Among the Dead Men, and Heavy Metal Thunder.

Well, at least I have Sorcery and Empire bought. Lol.

Playing Aralon again and I'm pleasantly surprised with it. It's fun for 2010 mobile game, with lots of places to explore. It's better than the more recent Ravensword, which was very disappointing.

Can't wait for Aralon 2.

If you have a NZ account, Sony's Little Big Planet tie-in, Run Sackboy Run, has soft launched. And I have to say it's pretty damn impressive.

One of the better sidescrolling runners in a while. Captures the LBP feel while keeping it interesting as a runner with branching paths, variety of obstacles and enemies. Very nice stuff and not just a phoned in ad for LBP IMO. Worth checking out for free (will be freemium with IAPs but seems pretty unnecessary).

Build your spaceship, fly it, collect coins, buy new parts, and so forth!

By reaching new heights you will unlock new ship parts that can be used in various ways. It's all up to you!

The higher you get, the more difficult the enemies become so you need to be prepared!

This is a really cool free game from the dev of They Need To Be Fed. It's an endless vertical flyer that plays like Kona's Crate plus Starborn Anarkist or Bad Piggies. Basically you build your ship on a grid, adding new parts and weapons like in Starborn Anarkist, and then need to reach greater heights while collecting coins and avoiding or defeating enemies. The catch is that you control your ship like in Kona's Crate, activating the left and right thrusters manually to maneuver. It's very addictive, takes practice to master and improve, and has a charming colorful aesthetic

hmmm what games out there are optimized for 6+?

Table Tennis Touch is the only one I found so far.

Even games optimized for Metal like Gameloft still aren't updated on the resolution. You can tell by the large banners and fat keyboards.

This game is awesome.

Just got an iPhone and am drooling over all the games available. o_o''

Has anyone here played Super Monkey Ball on iOS? I've actually never played the series before and figured this would be a good chance. Does anyone know how the games are?

Strangely, there seems to be three games on the service but I can't really find any information about them.

Super Monkey Ball
Super Monkey Ball 2
Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition

What's the difference between 2 and Sakura Edition? And what game is "Super Monkey Ball" (doesn't seem like the GCN game, as it has a pixelated monkey in a 3D environment like the GBA game)?

The latest one is Sakura Edition, but it hasn't been updated in two years. I would get Crazy Hedgy instead

I haven't played much of it yet, but it feels only very vaguely similar to Hoplite.

I've played Auro and it's a cool game but MUCH different and more casual than 100 Rogues, Hoplite and other rogue likes. A lot of it involves "bumping" enemies off the platform on each level. More strategic, however, in timing and or using spells because if you just go around bumping, you won't last.

Fun game. Just not a rogue like.

What are the best portrait games? I prefer them on the iPhone, I have Edge/Extended, 99 Bricks, 100000, Ridicolous Fishing, Knights of P&P and some others, looking for good time wasters (can't stand the Tower games, all you do is re-stock).

The Quest Gold is a full-scale RPG that can be played in portrait.

Just got an iPhone 6 coming from an HTC One so I'm back on the app store. Only game I really played on my One was fuckin' flappy bird so I gave Real Racing 3 a spin today. God damn, I am amazed at how good it looks.

Need to comb through this thread to fine some fun little games to pick up. Even in the editor's choice sections it looks like there are some beautiful platforms in the store.

Have to say, really love this game. It's like an alternate version of Bad Piggies, but it's not by Rovio and is simple and fun. Highly recommend it!

Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition for PS4 is eating my free time in big chunks (currently farming keys to get the Infernal Ring) (also, I need yellow gems if someone want to trade: THEFROSTYS is my PSN name, please add me to trade) :)) but I managed to play some iOS games....

Must Go Up is awesome. I had a flying fortress and unlocked all block types while having a ton of fun. Like you guys say, its addictive.... until it deleted my saved game.

Run Sackboy Run is also fun in gameplay, keeping it interesting as a runner and adding their grain of salt, and everything is done with style. Sony knows how to do free to play games: no timers or dual currency, no advertisements everywhere. Many many iOS devs (especially big brands) should learn a thing or two from Sony....

Also played Angry Birds Transformers. Is a new take on the formula, making it a runner/shooter and its interesting. But this one is full of double currency and timers. Will play it further just to see how it develops but.... Rovio, experiment with making a premium game now please...

A lot of free to play. As for paid, played a bit of Air Supply SOS. Its very hard to shoot enemies so I take it as a evader, and I am playing it wrong so cant get into it.

I'm pretty sure there is no save game. If the app shuts or you restart your phone, you start again.

Not that I mind, it's still fun as hell.

I downloaded it earlier and I just got off of a solid hour in it. As someone who considers LBP to be my favourite Sony franchise, I was really impressed by it and glad they didn't completely ruin it for business purposes (on another somewhat related topic, that freemium Crazy Taxi game is arse with its freemium elements).

The game absolutely nails that LBP atmosphere (hell, all it needs was Stephen Fry voice-overs and it would have been perfect), and the gameplay, whilst still filled with the main tropes of endless runner games, still keeps that sort of LBP feel to it. Not having any unnessecary freemium stuff like timers or dual currency is also amazing to see (which is worrying to the grand specturm of mobile gaming). The main currency does come in it a slow rate though, if I'm being honest, and it uses Facebook for leaderboards instead of GC, which doesn't work in favour of it

Yes it is a lot of fun. Looking forward to having a save file and constructing my flying fortress again.

(on another somewhat related topic, that freemium Crazy Taxi game is arse with its freemium elements).

Crazy Taxi Rush, Sonic Rush and Minion Rush suffer from those bad design elements a lot. They would have been much better games if they were closer to Sony´s Run Sackboy Run. Much better. But sadly, they are not.

Absolutely, it NEEDS GameCenter, I want to know how I am doing against the world on the leaderboards. Every endless game needs GameCenter. And since CounterSpy has it, there is a lot of hope :)

Fun game. Just not a rogue like.

The main reason I wouldn't call it a roguelike necessarily would be the win condition, getting a target score. The tactics certainly feel like Hoplite now I've played more, after all the shield bash is similar to bumping.

I tried Zaga 33 but it randomly crashes on iOS 8, I guess. Hope this is fixed like 868 Hack was.

Are you searching on your iPhone? I think it's iPad only

I'm searching on my iPad, it used to show up but doesn't anymore. I can find a link to it on google but when I open the App Store it says item not available

It's weird because it happened suddenly and I can't find anything about it online

I wonder if it is something to do with the vita version

It's another of the apps/games that mysteriously got removed from the App Store around iOS 8's launch. VLC for iOS is another example.
