Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

TL;DR: FUCK ENGRAMS, GET MONEY

More of the issue for me is how its supposed to be some grand story or whatever and its probably worse then just about anything else. So you have no replay value in the story at all.

Then you do the PvP and while its not bad it's not amazing either. A lot of issues with that people have went into.

Then you have the caps on just about everything. I understand raid lockouts and caps on points but capping stuff like glimmer is just to increase the length of the grind artificially and that stuff is very poorly designed.

Playing how you want is fine but Bungie wants you to run on the daily/weekly treadmill that most MMO's put you on and I personally wanted off that a long time ago. I thought I would be getting a little more substance in this game but I feel like it w as falsely advertised. The raw game is actually fun but the stuff around it is questionable at best.

To be fair I never farmed the "cave" at all and most of the stuff I did was just the content put forth by Bungie...hench why I was under geared compared to most.

Even the raid is just like any MMO raid strats are out and its on farm so it's just another weekly task you complete.

I would love to level another character If I knew there was a different story experience but I know there isn't. The expansions are going to come out with some "mechanics" that people claim are amazing but are really just a raiding standard in tons of other games and they will be added to the weekly farm list soon enough.

Bungie swore this wasn't an MMO but it sure feels like one to me and a launch one with issues at that.

This is Resident Evil 6 all over again, only on 50X greater scale.

If the biggest examples you have are things that either the game explicitly does actually warn you about or has relatively giant graphics on the screen that give you an indication of what's going on, it's nothing remotely similar to RE6.

Decided to create a secondary character and start with the Titan class because I currently have a Level 24 Hunter which is impossible to level up more because the amount of time I have to invest with the current Engram Drops in Vanguard Strikes will take me more than an month. Doing Patrol missions while using an item from Dead Orbit also takes the same amount of time.

Might as well wait for the eventual patch adjustments to make our lives a little easier in terms of leveling because what it is now, only the people who invest 200 hours in a mere month, can be the only one's who do the high level Raids and what not. I just do not have that time in my life anymore.

But misunderstanding the game's basic structure and then complaining that it will not accommodate your misunderstanding, even going so far as to blame the developer for poor design, is absolutely laughable. It makes me think that, from your perspective, all the fun that I've had with Destiny is some kind of crazy magic that cannot be reduced. The idea that because you're not fully grasping the structure of the game, that I'm saying you can't play how you want, is just a joke to me.

I think most people understand this. The question is whether or not it's any different from grinding runs in Diablo or Borderlands to get loot or grinding runs in Destiny to increase rep for the chance to get gear (which you will throw away once you do Raids anyway). Dropping gear is more immediately satisfying, because you're playing to get something better and not increase a bar.

The D3 system also associates your gameplay activity with immediate rewards - the more you play, the more legendaries you get. For Destiny, you're grinding out Crucible matches (but only 50 times a week unless you want to "waste" your marks) for the purposes of buying gear later. The reward comes in being able to potentially "choose" what you want to buy, but there's no immediate satisfaction that comes from doing well in a match - as many people have already pointed out.

It's not that I like the F2P treadmill by any means, but companies like Zynga and King must have armies of behavioral psychologists that have figured out the best way to deliver reward and "fun" while also keeping the treadmill going for the purposes of getting more money out of the player. If you want to come up with a new type of treadmill, you have to have a good reason why it's different from the one that has been proven to work already.

Xur's wares (I'll probably be beaten to this by the time I finish typing it):

Crest of Alpha Lupi - Titan chest - 13 SC
Knucklehead Radar - Hunter helmet - 13 SC
Apotheosis Veil - Warlock helmet - 13 SC
Suros Regime - Auto Rifle - 23 SC
Exotic Engram - helmet - 23 MoL

Xur's all about the helmets this week.

Amazing post Hawkian! Your post really opened up my eyes to some points, and I agree with you on everything.
Thanks for reading :)
Yea I disagree a lot with what's in your post Hawkian. Unfortunately I'm on a bus so I can't go into detail but the game definitely is based around RNG to an extent. You sure as hell can't buy Raid gear at a vendor.
That's it.

That's the entirety.

Getting from level 29 to level 30 requires RNG rolls from the Raid. And this is pretty radically different from engrams in the first place.

Hawkian

You have more legendaries engrams than I have seen during my entire playtime with destiny...

and I have been farming a lot! You must be lucky with your drops :)
kinda depends on your playtime ;) but yeah I haven't farmed hehe

Suros Regime = fucking bought. My first exotic weapon :D

Really want that Titan chest though, but I'm out of coins. Hopefully the heroic strike and some luck can get me there by tomorrow night.

Suros Regime and Exotic Engram bought. Pray for the Titan crest of alpha lupi with me guys, otherwise I need to get 3 coins quickly.

Edit, crap it's a helmet this time, didn't even notice lol. Insurmountable Skullfort pls.

Damn, don't want everyone to have the Suros Regime I've been using...it's too good for just anyone to have!

Too damn bad!

Haha jk, I'd probably feel the same had I been lucky enough to get it by other means.

Xur has answered my prayers, I need to get home from work now before this ends up being some mistake by Bungie for all I know.

And it won't be everyone. Just the people who are playing Destiny this week, who are aware of xur, and have enough coins saved up. Might be a lot but definitely not everyone.

Warlock Helmet Apothesis Veil fuck yes! Grabbed with 37 Strange coins spare. Bought an engram (23 motes). Is it worth buying more helmets to trash for materials? With 2 more coiins I could buy 3 more. Bought the Suros Reigime exotic AR for 23 coins, maybe it's worth buying a second for the materials on this side instead?

Xur came through for Warlocks at last, so glad I didn't spunk my asshards on my purple helmet. Time to go kill some shit and level these shiny new things up!

EDIT: Put on the helmet, dropped down to 27. Instantly upgraded purple boots, right back up to mid-28. 29 here we come!
So, what's the best way to get 8 coins by the end of the week?

You only got today and tomorrow, Xur will be gone for 5 days after that.

Welp, I had enough coins for my Exotic Bounty item (cost 1 coin), Suros Regime, and Apotheosis Veil, which is still better than Sunbreakers, in my opinion. Instantly regerating health when I use Radiance will be fantastic since I like the sticky grenades better than solar.

I got an exotic engram and the motherfucker gave me a helmet for a class I don't have, I should've expected this. Now I'm torn on wether to just buy a helmet for my class with strange coins, or get the exotic assault rifle even though a nerf is coming.

Got Knucklehead Radar from exotic engram, boxing this for a possible Hunter that may never be.

Allright guys, three strange coins, let's do this. :p

This is exactly the reason as to why I am leveling up a secondary character because I had plenty of Legendary Engrams and they were all decrypted for either the Warlock or Titan.
