Well everyone, I finally got a ps4, and the first and only game I have for it is destiny. I was wary of picking this up because one, I've been pretty down on shooter for a while. I haven't touched most of them in a long time, and those that I have played I dropped within a few hours. And two, people have been saying that the game is pretty mediocre.
But man, I really like it. The guns feel good. And even though it is disappointing that there's only one area per world, so far the areas have been pretty big and interesting. I can see a lot of people's complaints. Encounter design could be a little more interesting. And in my opinion, some enemies have too much health (especially on the one strike mission I played. My major complaints are mainly with the cosmetics. I made a really cool looking exo, but I feel like the customization options were too limited. I understand that they may not want a bunch of crazy sliders for hotbox reasons. Or they may not want to give people the option of making their character look really stupid, but whatever the reason, there should have been at least 6-8 more options for each category. Also I find it kind of annoying that I did spend all that time getting my character to look exactly how I liked only to be forced to wear a helmet all the time. But that's a minor complaint I guess.
I like how the guns work. The different varieties all feel different enough that I can pick favorites, but they all feel useful (except heavies so far). And having different upgrade paths for gear is fun. I do wish there was more variety (we are in an alien future after all), but the powers help make up for that a little.
All in all, despite understanding a lot of complaints, I think this game nailed the fundamentals of gunplay so well that most detriments don't feel that bad, and anything extra feels really good. I can see myself playing this game for a long time.
