New Driveclub gameplay

Mercedes-AMG-GT---Driveclub.gif

What I see is Evolution repeating textures and cars in that gif.

I've been trying to pin down what makes this game look fantastic, is it the high polygon cars, the highly detailed track.....nope. It is the lighting. The lighting is the most natural looking i have ever seen in a game. It really makes it feel 'real'.

I agree. And that glacier is...just....the icing...on the cake.

I promise I will stop this, I don't want to derail the thread or get banned, this is not my intention at all lol. What I'm wondering is come release can we not discuss our opinions on the game if it's negative? What if we have concerns about the game legitimately?

Really simple - raise it as a concern about what the game is, not what it isn't.

If you think the car selection is too small, say

'I think the car list is too small for my tastes.'

Instead of

'I'm worried and/or concerned that the car selection isn't as big as another game and this game should be more like that one.'

As was debated elsewhere, criticism should be about the product's perceived failings & good points on what it sets out to do. It's nit a 'compare & contrast' exercise.

Thing is this post - and StuBurns above - in itself are a kind of concern post - you've been around here a long time, surely you know when you're writing a trollish post and one that genuinely seeks to start a debate?

Honestly, I think come release: any negativity should come from first hand experience and not just be drive-by posts. Explain what you're disappointed by and possibly how Evolution could've avoided this. Any CONCERNS should be posted as a question...

"I'm concerned by the lack of sport-class cars" = "How many sport-class cars are there? Do you feel there's enough? How does the amount compare to other classes?"

I heard from several people now that the t100 isn't in the same league as the dfgt... and the gap is huge. FFB and the lack of 900° are the main reasons, build quality worse, too.

I could get it for 69€ incl shipping but I'd rather buy a used t500 i guess. So sad there is no logitech wheel, nothing is comparable to them (price/performance).

A wheel comparable to the dfgt is the t300, but its twice as expensive..

Edit: The T300RS is more expensive in germany than the T500RS. Thank you, Thrustmaster... A bit competition would be great. I'm waiting until the price for a used t500rs is around 200€, so I have to play with the DS4 the next weeks / months.

Alright, that got me haha.

I am kind of worried though, they've said nothing of the music yet and though I wish I could use my own tracks I'm pretty sure you can't do that on PS4 yet?

Yes, they have said more. The entire soundtrack is specifically made for DriveClub by the same group, Hybrid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_(Welsh_band)

So expect it to be in the same vein as "Be Here Now" (How fast do you wanna go)

I want MP3 support in game so badly. Music Unlimited doesn't have enough songs and Sony claimed the lack of MP3 support wasn't to boost Music Unlimited, but then here on NeoGAF there was discussion of update info leaked on reddit and the info said MP3 functionality may not be allowed during games. UGH. 360 has had this feature since 2005.

There are no hard edges in this game. Just like in real life, objects just inhabit space. In other games you can almost see the polygons beneath the textures. Their edges are too hard and so never come close to photorealism.

I'm concerned about the lack of MP3 support as well. It makes a massive difference to my racing experience - loved it in PS3 Wipeout, for example.

Walmart had it near my house, debated picking it up but ultimately left without it simply because I want Alien: Isolation. Maybe I should go back and get it? How much of the game can be played offline?

I was thinking about picking it up to stream it, but I know I will get my account banned so fast haha

Dude, that would be a no brainer for me. Buy and send it to me, it'll be faster here than my amazon preorder :-P

After my dinosaur-based stunt yesterday, I'll be a bit bummed if indeed a spend $100, get $20 back promotion shows up. :p

Could have pre-ordered tomorrow instead!

I'd hate to shit on some people's parades here but I can confirm that the IQ is not nearly as god like as some gifs would have you believe.

There's jaggies everywhere.

From the cars to the railings in the background while you choose your livery.

The game is ace though. Plays wonderfully.

Aw, that's a shame :(

Do you have any pics for comparison? Would you say that they are using no AA solution at all, FXAA, or what? Can you tell?

Glad to hear it plays well, though. How's the sense of speed?

Well, I've seen enough video over the past year to disagree with you, but guess we'll know in a few days for sure.

Why no pics? It would be great if you would save them to a usb stick and upload some for us. Not only for bad examples actually, but I'd like to see dem jaggies, too. I may be able to get it thursday. I will spam the screenshot thread then...

Do you think MP3 support would be too major of a feature to be an unannounced feature of PS4 FW 2.0. They always seem to have something cool that goes unmentioned (unless it's a stability update, in which there's usually nothing else).

I hope the sound engines to be pretty good. If they are, then I'm already going to have the best soundtrack any racing game can offer. I do like some music every now and then but nothing fits better on a game like this then the pure sounds of angry engines while changing gears. It's simply the best for any racing fan if you ask me fellow GAFfer.

That's what excellent about it. The sense of speed and how badass the overall presentation of the game is. If you love Evolution Studios past games you'll feel right at home here.

Eff yeah, thanks for the info (and adjusted expectations).
NP :)

It's definitely up to personal perception. The game is clean for sure. But its not almost CG clean quite yet. There's tiny jaggies here and
there that I find off putting at most. But nothing DISAPPOINTING .

Again it could depend on where you're playing it and your TV's settings. I find a lot of shit looms good on computer monitors but some other monitor TV's like mine don't produce nearly as good an image. So I may have to fiddle with some settings to be 100% satisfied.

I don't know how to upload share pics from PS4 to GAF that easily and I'm on mobile.

Review copy?

No. My own.

I am not much of a racer fan but I will 100% play the ps plus version for now.

No joke, I really hope they get custom music going ASAP on PS4. I actually caved and paid for a month of Music Unlimited when playing Need For Speed at PS4's launch for the custom soundtracks.

can there ever be no jaggies when pixels are still square on TV screens? Serious question. I'm not versed in the latest post processing tech.

Wipeout HD was one racing game where I had absolutely no problems just being lazy and listening to the wonderful OST of the game itself, rarely feeling like I'd want to listen to my own music. Evolution's games have been pretty good in that regards as well. So even if Sony ruins MP3 support, I'm hoping it won't be too much of a detriment to DriveClub and Hybrid has done some fine tunes to listen to while racing.

So is this before or after the extra AA that they're adding?

Have you got a PC setting on your TV? If you have, try that.

edit: What the hell! LOL. Who moderated my ASS!?

Yeah NP. It's a really sleek hardcore arcade hybrid. It feels like a throwback in a way. Like I haven't played a racing game this tightly focused in a while.

Having played a few more races, the minor jaggies disappear when you start to take in just how fucking high fidelity everything is.

The motion blur is stellar, the LOD is phenomenal, the lighting is by far the best I've seen this side of PS4 and the sound is delicious. It all comes together really well. Evo's effort really shows.

I wanna do my best to dissuade any concerns I might have raised with the jaggies comment, because a lot of you will find it negligible at worst in contrast with the rest of it.

Basically, it's fucking sweet. Happy I bought.
