New Driveclub gameplay

There is no way this game has the IQ quality of the most recent footage. Even if it's in motion, I think people are setting themselves up for a massive disappointment if you believe that.

That video footage is pretty much flawless in IQ and has to be downsampled in someway or has some touches done to it.

In motion.

Looks fine...

Yes, it is. Sorry, but if you believe bullshots without so much as questioning it, it is absolutely on you.

What bullshots?! Those pics are from gameplay footage put out a few days ago!
Those same videos are the point of contention at this point, at least for me personally!
The IQ in them were insane, who would have figured Sony/Evo would go out of their
way to lie about their gameplay footage this close to launch?

Has anyone asked Rushy if the day 1 patch will include the AA improvements? The b-roll footage going around looked too good to be true. The level of aliasing seen in the more recent videos is more indicative of my expectations.

With that caveat out the way, the game looks stunning.

I'm not on twitter, can't you ask him?

This looks the same as this?

I mean if you really feel like they are the same, that's fine I guess, but it's kinda hard for me not to tell the difference.

Motion blur is the big diffirentiator. Look at GT5, which looks totally different when you take a shot in motion vs one totally still.
IQ is definitely supersampled on the PR pieces.

As long as the IQ is better than Infamous or Killzone, which I think look amazing in terms of IQ, then it'll be good for me.

That's the opposite of how it works. Temporal AA works by reprojecting pixels from the previous frame (or previous frames, depending on implementation) into the current frame, to use them just like extra samples in supersampling. The less the scene is changing from one frame to the next, the less complex motion there is, the easier it is to correctly reproject.

AA getting worse in motion is often visible in games that use TAA. It's perhaps most obvious in Halo Reach, since the reprojection turns off when the game detects any appreciable motion at all.

My mistake. I thought that this technique was temporal AA. That's how B3D described it.

http://www.gtplanet.net/why-gran-turismo-psp-looks-so-good/

The AA was only there during motion. When you paused the game / took screen captures, you saw jaggies.

Are you being serious? Or disingenuous?

I'm saying show me a picture that is remotely similar to the gifs we've seen. Show me the same area at the same ToD and I'll be happy to believe you. It's possible to make every single game ever made look ugly if you choose ugly areas to shoot.

This game looks better in motion than it does stationary, this is a fact.

What sucks is that if those videos weren't released a few days back, I wouldn't have
even been this dismayed
. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to put together
such misleading footage ought to be ashamed.
Oh my, better get a fan because you are so dismayed.

fanning-self-hot.gif

But really if you are so worried, just give it a few weeks after launch and see how it is then.

Sorry, that's what I meant. Those videos have to be touched up in some way. I don't think anyone should be taking that as an indication of in-game IQ. They are nearly flawless in terms of IQ. People should temper there expectations accordingly when it comes to IQ.\

Edit: And of course, I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong. But, that IQ, its just too damn good to be real.

Look incredibly similar to me, one is just moving.

Yep, with that much motion blur and the sunnier setting, absolutely going to be close.

So are you all trying to say this is a case of the game looking good in motion, but bad in stills?

For sure to my eyes. The blur is a huge factor in the CGI look. Weather makes a big difference in giving the game dimension and detail on the wet cars too, so still looking forward to that.

It's not that good tbh... I was disappointed.

Will get PS+ version

OT:

Music/Chile/Norway videos coming soon... Shitty car returns. I haven't unlocked shit yet.

Keep in mind I'm playing under pressure to make this game look good, and this is by no means an easy game o-o

I just unlocked a BMW...

Maybe I'll do another norway vid. The aurora borealis at night is beautiful.

BMW footage pls :O

As I stated before, motion blur doesn't magically fix the problem of aliasing.

You can very clearly see the aliasing that is not present in the most recent videos.

If you don't think the image quality is different than the videos posted last week, I really don't know what to tell you.

So are you all trying to say this is a case of the game looking good in motion, but bad in stills?

Time of day, location, weather conditions, all play a factor as well in how the game will look at any point. But yes, the game does look better in motion.

So are you all trying to say this is a case of the game looking good in motion, but bad in stills?

Nah the game not going to have almost perfect AA like that vid but we should wait to see how close it gets when we get better pics and footage .
Also someone should ask rushy if day 1 patch has any effect on gfx.

Okay guys. Trust me on this.. This game is TIGHT. In the best way.

Everything is super sleek and streamlined... and that music. I'm doing my best to capture the best music ATM just to give you a sample... But I can't spend all night trying to persuade people on the fence here.

The game is a blast, which is what matters in the end.

The visuals are FANTASTIC. You will not be disappointed. The studio's put an immense amount of love into the cars and tracks and it DEFINITELY shows.

Not only do the cars look brilliant but the vistas and the weather and the lighting ... I just can't.. I can't explain how nice it is. And the music...

Fuck the GIF's that got you impossibly hyped up, fuck the tiny jaggies. That's just the NeoGAF effect.

Go out and buy this game. You won't regret it even if you're not the biggest racing fan. It's THAT good.

EDIT:

Great, just realized that the music gets automatically muted when you capture video. I'm really sorry guys.

You're comparing with a capture taken from the BETA there, which Rushy mentioned they've already improved upon in the final build.

We'd need a final build capture from the same locale to properly compare.

And of course, I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong. But, that IQ, its just too damn good to be real.

Dude I will cook a pot full of crow biryani if the game comes matches those videos,
I want it to look extremely close to that, since visuals are one of the game's main
selling point.

So are you all trying to say this is a case of the game looking good in motion, but bad in stills?

It seems so.

I am going to scrutinize the hell out the PS+ version.

Here's an idea: can someone with the game post some screens more similar to the time and locations we've been looking at in the thread? These stills look like mid afternoon with no motion and that compressed dark youtube vid was hard to see for me, as much as I appreciate the effort.

For sure to my eyes. The blur is a huge factor in the CGI look. Weather makes a big difference in giving the game dimension and detail on the wet cars too, so still looking forward to that.

Well, I can understand that, but stuff like:

disappoints me. I'll decide if I want to buy the game next week or just wait until the weather patch drops and get it then.

The edges aren't faded like with downsampling, you can see 1:1 single pixels sticking out through some of the trees. There is just a lot of motion blur.

So unless they made bullshot videos, that would be a new thing for me, since the Killzone 2 2005 video.

Regardless, y'all keep posting pics of that supersampled B roll footage from the trailers and press kit.

Hey man, no need to rush, enjoy the game :P Thanks for the uploads.

How are the vehicles unlocked again? Just by playing through?

I may have to skip watching any more videos. I want to save things like the Aurora Borealis for myself.

All I read was JAGGIES. No buy, PS + cancelled.
Kidding.

It's great to read these impressions, I am only going with the Plus version as I am not a huge racing fan, but who knows, this might get me into it. Great to see that it's a fun game!

It is TAA, albeit a trivial case where they're just jittering the frame (no non-trivial reprojection) and using your eyes to do the blending.

Actually, that's an even more restricted case than what more sophisticated TAA does. It still breaks down when there's motion in the in-game scene (since the pixels from one frame don't get mapped usefully to those in the next for moving areas of the screen), and it ALSO requires that you be looking at a screen alternating between jittered frames in order to work at all.

It makes sense that pausing would kill the effect, since it stops the jittering from occuring. Motion in the scene should *also* kill the effect, however.

The bottom picture actually looks more real than the top one. People are insane.

Not really. Look at the power lines in the top image vs the aliasing all over the trees. No amount of motion blur would've removed the aliasing from the power lines that seamlessly. If you look out in the distance you see the power lines still have no aliasing whatsoever, even on the part of the image that's well outside of the range of the motion blur (further away from the car, toward the center of the image).

Now, that's not to say that a direct-feed screenshot of the top photo wouldn't have revealed alising. It very well might have, but there's a marked difference between this and the posted overcast Challenge footage earlier in this thread. The power lines there are much more in line with a realistic expectation of image quality, simply because aliasing on extremely thin objects (most frequently power lines in games) are incredibly difficult to get rid of.

The bottom picture doesn't look bad, mind you. It looks pretty much just in line with the rest of the footage (which is to say extremely good). It's just the aliasing that's killing the image quality there, and there's simply no way it looks photorealistic.

Beta footage? Rapier is posting pics from the Beta?
