In her first appearance, she defeated Doctor Doom. Since then, she’s taken on Wolverine, Deadpool, and freaking Thanos—and she’s never lost. Not a bad track record for a superhero–especially considering that the superhero in question is Squirrel Girl, a Marvel Comics back-bencher who’s probably best known for being Luke Cage’s nanny. (She was also on the Great Lakes Avengers, one of the goofiest superteams in history. Like, the Great Lakes Avengers make the West Coast Avengers look like the Dark Avengers.) But now, at long last, Squirrel Girl is getting her own solo ongoing series.

In Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, writer Ryan North and artist Erica Henderson take on the lighthearted superheroine whose mutant gene gives her an endearing cocktail of squirrel-related superpowers. When the comic book begins, she’s starting college—but in no time at all, Squirrel Girl is defending Earth from threats most cosmic. Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is another quietly bold move for Marvel—a female-centric comic that’s intended to appeal equally to canon-heads and newcomers—and EW is excited to share an exclusive first look at the cover, drawn by Henderson.

...that art is really cute, shit.

Okay, you win marvel, I'll buy a squirrel girl book.

Edit: lol nvm about the art, wtf is carol's face doing and poor cap looks like the old xbawks kid meme

Theyre gonna fuck up and make her the core of an event. Theres no going back from that.

Ryan North does good comics.

I can't comprehend the complaints about the art. Comic books can and should look different from one another.

I don't like how they made her chubby all the sudden.

Then again, there was a time when she was an hirsute beast with hairy arms and rodent eyes.

I think we can all agree that we love Squirrel Girl, but what the hell do 'Squirrel related powers' mean?

She has the proportional strength and agility of a human-sized squirrel, as well as a prehensile tail and the ability to converse with squirrels who help her out.

The art is perfect for a light-hearted series. It seems like it's geared towards children too, judging by the art.

I suddenly need this.

That's pretty hilarious and amazing of Marvel to announce this. I'll pick up the first issue for sure.
