Just noticed that every page has a small text below ... like Ryan North's Dinosaur Comics alt text

I know its great

I'll pick up that Young variant if my local shop gets it.

Wish he was doing the actual comic. Rocket Raccoon has been amazing.

That two page preview was really funny and I think the art is perfect for the character. I love that Marvel allows such a diversity of art in their books. Picking up this and Ant-Man #1 next week, should be good!

So ... other than as a kind of in-joke for long time marvel readers - do people really actually want this?

If your gonna mainstream her and give her a book ... then why doesn't Illuminati just toss her up against the Priests and call it a day?

You can't have a joke character join in on the reindeer games and have not look fuckin silly imo. Cute be a cute little mini run or something and have like Thanos be her astrology prof or something equally ridiculous like that but an actual serious whatever featuring Squirrel Girl?

Nah.

Also the art is terribad. I wonder what the inside of the book looks like.

Edit: Ok but yah i dig that booty. Would collect nutz with her any day... ifyaknowwhatimeanwinkwink

Since when was she chubby?

Since her debut. Her being skinnier was a retcon, and now they're fixing it. She looks fine! The art... Kinda underwhelms, but I still like it!

Yup! He did that with the Adventure Time comic, too. North seems like the best guy for the job when it comes to doing a Squirrel Girl series, honestly. I just wonder how long it'll last; I'm still bitter about the Soule run of She-Hulk, admittedly, but I don't know if this'll last for awhile or burn out within a year.

Man, the hate for cartoony art is fucking crazy.
I would understand it a bit more if this would be an A list title.
But this is supposed to be a fun character, nothing wrong with trying a little different approach.

But why am I ranting, this is Springrolls where everyone just wants Mcdonalds.

I have nothing wrong a cartoony approach. I do think the art itself is bad. Not the style, but the art itself.

So, she draws all of her characters thicker and more ugly than they're supposed to be? And this is a good thing?

Man, I'm out of the loop.

I hear that.

This looks charming and hilarious. I think it's going to be a hit. People who hate on it probably wouldn't like any squirrel girl comic or any comedic comic at all anyway.

It's a different style. Cartoony in the wacky sense for a fun series. If all you get out of it is that "all characters are thicker" I don't know what to say.

Actually this judgement was just from her Tumblr page, where every character has that same, semi-derpy, shot from an odd angle face and unnecessary thickness.

I dunno, there's a difference between fun cartoonyness and different fer the sake of being different, and this is definitely the latter. Though that seems to be weirdly popular these days, so there's no doubt it will be a success.

"unnecessary thickness". I don't even know what you're getting at. And there is a reason to be different, and it's because it's a wacky, different kind of character whose comics should be used to explore that different side to superhero comics. A "joke character" a carte blanche to do things with you couldn't do with others. So it should be different to be different. It's also great to see superheroes who don't sport personal trainer-groomed looks, but sure enough, one series in a million looking like this is enough to provoke some people who want not only 99% but every one of them to adhere to the same format.

Can not unsee adorable Selena Gomez cheeks playing real life squirrel girl. Also SQuirrel Girl is literally my favorite hero to play on Marvel Heroes.

I think that different can look great, and I agree, 99% of comics are pretty similar looking. I just don't understand this new trend of "ugly fer ugly's sake" with comics and cartoons. Steven Universe does the same thing. The art and character design just isn't visually appealing. There's nothing wrong with a little perfection especially when it comes to published works. I dunno.

We have an unending flow of perfection-based works of fiction, I think we can handle it happen like, once ever.

I read this to my six year old daughter at bedtime tonight and she loved it. She wants me to start working on a Squirell Girl Halloween costume for her.

I hope the letterer enjoys making exclamation points.

Do comics still have letterers or is it all done by computers now?

Well this looks amazing! :D

Someone above asked about the Adventure Time comic - Ryan North did the first bunch of those, and has now handed off writing duties to Christopher Hastings.

So it's gone from being written by Dinosaur Comics guy to Dr McNinja guy. Which is pretty awesome.

EDIT: Also it looks like they slapped the colourist over the head regarding Squirrel Girls' lips. Coloured lips only work in more realistic art styles.

EDIT: Also, the art is freaking awesome. It is very hard to do stylized art correctly, which is why most people either gun for the regular US/JP styles. Fresh art styles are a good thing! I hope this does well.

hahaha awesome !

Who made it ?

It's hosted on the Dinosaur Comics site, so I'll go out on a limb and say it's the artist and writer :P

EDIT x3: I actually popped down to my local store to grab this. I was right - the colours have been changed from the first preview. No more weird pink lips.

Snagged the last SY variant in stock at my local shop last night. Haven't gotten to read it yet, but it's already worth it simply for the cover.
